It's very disappointing how underserved Android is as a gaming platform. We could easily have games as good or better than the Switch, but nobody will develop them. Instead, we get p2p shovelware...
Totally agree, look at doom 3, need for speed games, GTA remasters, alien isolation, Grid - AAA design and beautiful games but no one wants to make more like these for android 😁
If anyone has a Netflix subscription, they somehow have curated a great collection of indie games, save for the GTA Remastered trilogy (which is quite buggy). I actually like to think of it as Indie Game Pass, which needs some more advertising for sure.
Great video, Juan! I appreciate you a crapton for making a video like this and closing it with the "we should be supporting good work" remark. Our phones of today are incredibly powerful - I am not kidding, my midrange 7+ Gen 2 can achieve 720p 60 FPS on System Shock (2023) whereas the same game is CPU BOTTLENECKED to 30 FPS on PS4, and my phone doesn't heat up a lot either. Clearly a phone could run the remake of one of the greatest immersive sims ever made, and yet the game isn't on mobile app stores, why is that? It's because we don't support paid games enough, but it should change at some point. Greater awareness about premium experiences, be it indies, or AA/AAA (that Feral and Handy Games do) should be supported.
Spot on! EXACTLY that. Yes our phones are "only" as powerful as last gen laptops, but they achieve similar performance without active cooling and at around 12W power.
I just recently bought a Retroid Pocket 5 so I'll for sure have to jump into android gaming, this is such an underrated area it's actually wild! I've been so impressed at how many people play on android casually and how little support it seems to get
@SomeGadgetGuy i rank you and TK as 1a and 1b in the world of tech reviewers. You both just approach it at a different level. Both making the tech review scene better
Don't know when it came out, but Wreckfest is definitely one of my favorite racing games on mobile and gets a recommendation by me. When it comes to what I usually play, it's rhythm games. The "Predatory Business Practices" tend to be not that bad with them. At least all the ones I've played. Those games are also just made to be played on touchscreens... And wired headphones.
Whoa. Ex Astris looks amazing. I did not expect such an ambitious game to have slipped past me. I think that's gonna a better my big takeaway from this video.
Solo Leveling Arise for me 😅 I've played Honkai StarRail since released and I've deleted it just to focus on SLA the devs on that game are generous a F2P player like me ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I cant spend as much time with it as I would like, as I'm usually reviewing newer devices, and it takes the devs a bit to optimize for new SOCs. Like, it's gonna be a WHILE before it feels like it's working well on a D9400... The work is REALLY impressive though!
@@SomeGadgetGuy Great question, and appreciate the honest "No, Sorry" response. As for Windows Gaming, there's different levels of it obviously. From DOS, to 98, to XP it is mostly doable on midrange Tensor, Exynos, Dimensity, and Snapdragon chipsets. It really is the Windows 7 gaming, which requires Winlator and specific flagship chipset, to be able to play certain games. And I think they are not worth using, or depending on as a daily driver. It's not like using a Wii Emulation on Android, much more clunky, and for experimental purposes at this stage. But in 2025, we will probably re-assess if this evolves and changes.
Now that Android is making its way to ChromeOS, I do wonder if we could get better mobile or Linux gaming experience in the future. I remembered Acer made a Chromebook laptop with dedicated Nvidia GPU. It's fine... except it's ChromeOS and most people who use ChromeOS don't do gaming. Valve's decision to use their own Arch Linux-based SteamOS for Steam Deck should, in theory, be a huge accelerator for native Linux desktop gaming.
I also love DQM3:the Dark Prince, there was a new 3D Naruto game ported over from PS3 and by next week we'll get GRID Legends which is a current gen beautiful racing sim coming from PS5.
If your game is buy once, I don't think having a demo is worth it, because of that stupid 'Offers In-App Purchases'. Maybe release the demo separate? That adds friction...
It's tough on both fronts. The friction of getting someone to install a second app is likely as bad or worse than having someone just pay an IAP. Google could fix this, but they won't.

Do you have anything exciting in stock?
@@rydhwan Phones by the way can even run Doom (2016) at over 60 FPS, I kid you not, via emulation. Imagine if Doom (2016) was a native mobile game.
Main reason I never get excited when a new handheld gets announced and gets called a "switch killer"
Then find out it's running Android...
That's why I keep gaming on PC. At least I don't have to worry on microtransactions if I paid for the game.

Some great titles on there for sure.
There's a game called Death's Door on netflix. Absolute masterpiece.
On android? @@hironmoysikder1871
I love this! It's great to have a highlight of games that try to give the most to the user. Thanks for shedding some light on these
You're very welcome! I feel techies overlook how good mobile gaming has gotten, once you dig out from under all the free-to-play nonsense...

Aw thanks. He's one of my closest friends for a good reason.

I'm glad you snipped this from the podcast since I was driving while listening to it.
I liked this revamp of a live show. I know youve dont often before but for award shows this is really phenomenal
Caves of lore is giving me ultima 7 vibes and I'm here for it.
YUP!
They're ending 2024 with one helluva bang over at the Bagnell house! Man's been ablaze 🔥

It never occurred to me that those old graphic adventure games would work well on a modern smartphone. Now I really like the idea.
WHat I wouldnt give for a Space Quest collection on mobile...

Got an Odin Lite and I'm finally able to play Nikke
Android needs triple A titles like borderland and far cry and hell even something like forza or mx vs atv kinda stuff and even doom like 2016 doom
I also love DQM3:the Dark Prince, there was a new 3D Naruto game ported over from PS3 and by next week we'll get GRID Legends which is a current gen beautiful racing sim coming from PS5.
REALLY looking forward to GRID Legends!
I would really love an older phone video like LG V60, Galaxy note 4, 9 , A nokia phone not HMD global on, windows phone etc
We could probably make that happen.

To try : Infinity Nikki
