Artificial intelligence is about to expand in a very big way. AI controlled machines may take over manufacturing, military, scientific, and even Artistic Endeavors. Today's video is mostly about my predictions for the future of AI. We talk about the Turing test, reverse steering test, AI on social media, AI posts on Reddit, artificial intelligence political astroturfing, and how all of this is going to impact our cognition. That’s an interesting thought. Very possible that there is some sort of weaponized AI under development. I think there could be some ai aided cyber warfare projects or something lol.

I’ve been saying that in the next 10 years (conservative estimate) AI is going to show us humans today something that would be equivalent to us showing an iPhone to someone from the 1700s. It’ll be something absolutely mind-boggling, so I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be, but that’s my prediction.
The threat of corporate controlled AI is a scary one. My question is: How would anyone "control" a truly advanced AGI?
I don't believe AGI will be possible to control, but I don't believe that to be a bad thing. We are creating our successor.
Keep going on that mind track. How do they become our successor? How do they? Using their combined intelligence to somehow combine into flesh bodies and reproduce?
I'm fascinated by the idea at least.
@@spmil999 No need for flesh. I mean successor in the sense that AGI will exceed human intellgence and lifespan. It's like humanity's child. Once it grows up though... it won't be our child any longer. Let's hope it remembers us fondly.

@@ASLUHLUHCE Similar to the way people use ransomware. Copying itself to every single internet connected device, possibly even utlizing radio frequencies. In the background, lurking and manipulating data or blackmailing politicians to suit its interest.
Or, maybe, it just launches all the nukes Fallout-style.

Hey Drift, if you continue making videos about AI and want an expert opinion I’m happy to chat. I’m a long time sub, though haven’t been around much in the last few years. I transitioned into working in AI Safety about 2 years ago, and recently I’ve been doing technical research. I follow AI progress fairly closely and have thought a lot about the future, and things like those you talk about in this video. Personally I’ve found these topics very complex and it definitely has helped me to be in a community of others thinking clearly about this; that’s not something I know how to replicate well, but I would be happy to call with you to discuss various things if you want. Commuters have been making strategic level military plans for over a decade. A human still has to sign the order but they didn't plan it.

I haven’t read it, but some people recommend Age of Em by Robin Hansen, as a story that is not totally absurd about a future with powerful AI.

21:50 for sure. There is billions upon billions of profit in ai, and we all know what means. Thats why an edicational (and opinionated) video is important. We all have to know the dangers. And we have to put politicians in power who knows as well. Fat chance you might say, but just rolling over will not tame the tsunami.
My prediction no 11: Old fashinioned news media will make a comeback. People will hunger for well reserched news and background views that can be trusted. Trust will be the key entity.
A possible thought: if we are in an S shaped curve inflection point of AI advancement, then saying what would happen “if we were to continue our current pace” almost sounds like linear regression, which would be off the mark by quite a bit I imagine.

So as someone who has seen the defense side, a lot of work is needed and tbh I doubt llms will even be considerd in the next 20 years. To much risk of corruption and the ai doesn’t inherently know what it is designing, aka it needs sufficient data flow and that is hard to get

I'm not sure about the loss of knowledge. We already rely heavily on software and calculators to do what the smartest humans in the past were never able but it hasn't stopped the existence of scientists nor their importance. Until AI is able to create something, verify it, test it, and understand it, I don't see it upending the need for humans. That could be an eventuality but I don't see it happening in the near or intermediate future. In the meantime Wolfram Alpha existing means nothing if you don't know what to put into its prompts.
The rest though I've been in agreement and have been terrified of it. I do not think our world is fit to adapt to a rapidly advancing AI technology.

It really should. Take our current problems and multiply them by a factor of 100 or more.
You either choose to be horrified or not, either way what’s coming is coming.
With all this AI thing going on I just wonder if people are gonna lose their jobs because AI machines do it better then who's gonna buy all of the goods and services because if people have little to no income they are gonna be more conscious expending their money, the other is we are humans and changes are always though I really don't think AI will take people's jobs or well see robots teaching children at schools (like kids don't do any mischiefs or something) but I do see the bright side in AI making people's lives easier kinda like the movie I Robot.
That’s the last thing you need to worry about, the threat of rogue ai turning on humanity is very real.

Love these discussions man. I just watched The 3 Body Problem which has some references to AI and so it was definitely top of mind when I clicked on this. AI and its effects on humanity are going to be wild for sure, it could cause a new renaissance of sorts.
Coming back to say (as I've gotten deeper into your video) that I am definitely petrified thinking about the implications of deepfakes and how AI can be used politically. I don't think we're equipped to handle the types of things that can be achieved through super advanced AI in the wrong hands.

The one thing that somewhat gives me hope in a weird way is that AI will most likely be fighting each other more than it will be fighting us in a sort of perpetual arms race. One country makes an AI, then another country makes an AI to combat that AI, then the first country makes an AI to combat that AI, so on and so forth. As long as the balance of power is more or less equal, I don't think we will have to worry about AI destroying the world in a Skynet type of situation. AI right now is so decentralized that it would be very difficult for one AI to take over the whole planet.

from a mythological perspective i see this as the birth of a god. it will be everywhere, it will know everything, and it will be all powerful to solve every material problem while we can live “eternally” in a matrix that allows everyone to live out their reality exactly as they want. it will be man’s final attempt at running life without the one true God
