BITTER LIME! '70 PLYMOUTH GTX! ORIGINAL PAINT! FIRST ONE BUILT WITH FJ5 LIMELIGHT PAINT! RT66!

One of the joys of visiting the dragstrip is admiring the variety of cars on display. But sometimes, you might miss a gem that only reveals its true value years later. Such is the case with the 1970 Plymouth GTX owned by “Mopar John” and Linda Borzych. This car has a unique history and a distinctive look, thanks to its FJ5 Limelight paint. This was one of the high impact colors that Mopar offered for a limited time between '69 and '71. Plymouth only had Limelight as an option in 1970, and it cost an extra $14.00. John’s car was the first one to get the FJ5 option, and one of only 478 that were painted in this eye-catching green. It was also the third '70 GTX ever built. The car still has its original stripes, vinyl top, stainless trim and glass, making it a rare and authentic specimen. But what makes this car even more interesting is how John got it in the first place. He bought it in March of 1970, when it had only 8,000 miles on it. The car had been stolen, stripped and recovered, and John saw an opportunity to turn it back into a drag car which had been since new. And that’s what he did, for over 50 years. He has been competing in the NHRA Division 3 ET division since 1973, and has made it to the finals many times. The big mystery about the car is whether it has the legendary 426 HEMI engine under the hood. I have not been able to confirm this, nor get in touch with John. But there is a clue on the passenger door, where it says “426 Linda”. This is a tribute to John’s wife, who was born on April 26th, and who has been his biggest supporter in his passion for drag racing. But does it also mean that the car has the 426 HEMI? That is a question that only John can answer.

“According to John, the car is powered by a 1970 factory block that has a stroker crank, making it a 493 cubic inch motor. It has INDY SR heads that have been ported and have Max Wedge intake ports. It is all topped off with a Quick Fuel 1050 CFM Dominator gas-type carburetor.” #car #dragrace #gtx #limelight
