I'm in Torquay now, not on ef but I have seen some people on the trip walking around Torquay looking like they are having so much fun !! This is such a great project !!
A good video my friend. I first went to Torquay in 1965 and fell in love with the place then. I am now 78 years of age and have promised myself that I will go back there before I die. While you where there did you go to Kent's cavern,an amazing place. I have been back over the years with my daughters who also love it there.
Your video brought back many good memories for me. In 2003 and 2004 I used to live in Paignton and drive tour coaches for a company in Torbay. I had the pleasure of driving for EF and I think the other language school was TLS. No matter, I enjoyed meeting the young people from many countries - picking them up from Heathrow, driving down to Torquay and seeing them meet their new families, picking them up in the week to drive over Dartmoor, into Plymouth, Exeter, sometimes up to Bristol, to Tintagel in North Devon - yes, good times and some very nice people. I now live some way up a mountain in West Cork, Republic of Ireland. Best wishes to you. Mike
ELPaso1990TX - I was there 2003 & 2004. I cant say for certain the names but I have suffered cancer since 2015 and I sm afraid there are many things that I just cannot recall. The coach company I drove for was "Torquay Travel" (no longer trading) and I do know I was proud that I was alsays reauested whenever possible to either vollect/return students from Heathrow or Paignton sports centre and/or take them on the various day trips: Looe & Polperro; Tintagel & Boscastle; Dartmoor & Plymouth; Bristol - great times. I loved my work, have driven all over Europe with various coach companies and miss it all so much. I hope you are well, take care and enjoy and embrace each and every day. Mike (now living in west Cork, Ireland)
I'm sorry to hear about your illness. I vaguely remember Torquay Travel. I've worked for Town & Country coaches, Premier, Hookways and Carmel as well as driving mini buses for Torbay Language centre. But have not done any long distance continental driving. Ireland is very nice especially around Cork. Are you on Facebook?
Charlie SF well its first of all very exciting and fun, you'll get to meet allot of new people from all over the world including Norway (my country). I dont know about you but i became more independent in one way, since you kind of have to take care of yourself and stuff. Also it's going to be an opportunity to get better at speaking english! :D I can't exactly tell you how your experience is going to be very fun and exciting for you! I hope you're looking forward to it :)
I was 16 in 1975and lived nearby,I had just got my moped and me and my friends used to visit Torquay on our bikes to meet the glamorous foreign language students. Oh what carefree days.
Hey! Yeah it was so much fun! I stayed in a house with a hostfamily and 3 other students! I would really recommend that kind of livingsituation! You're more free to do what you want then, and you get a chance to really feel independent :)
+Ole Stokke Thanks for answering! And you knew the people you stayed with? And more less what age did you and the grouo had? Sorry I have so many questions hahaha
+Alba Alvarez well, no i did not know The family. The family were selected from EF's host families, so the only thing I knew about them before going was the name of the father and the address to his house. The other students are usually at the same age as you, but you don't get to know who the other students are unless you choose to live with one other student from the same country as you or if you've made special arrangements with EF before traveling.
Situation in England is very bad now because they leave the EU. I think in Torquay EF will close and no more students for Torquay. Many People are very worried and concerned in England because leaving the EU is a bad idea and president May of England is a bad person who have support for Donald Trump.
Reality check: No-one can have 40 genuine friends. It's impossible 'cos no-one has that degree of emotional capacity, energy and committment. What you are calling 'friends' here are just passing strangers who three weeks after you're gone will barely be able to remember your name. 😊
Shelley Lyme reality check: i never Said 40 super close best-friends, but in fact yes I had at least 40 New friends that I got to know pretty Well. Not all of them at the same level ofc. But Yeah, believe it or not. And i’m still in touch with most of them not only three weeks after but 3/4 years after😌 so yeah
Torquay has a lot of problems with drugs and violence in the town centre with deserted buildings, street crime etc but the rest of the town is nice. Once you get away from the town centre its safer and better.

The future is not so good. If Britain leaves the EU then language schools may close down, it would be news for Torquay because a lot of money come from students. Summer 2017 predict much less students in Torquay :(

Sorry but how does Torquay benefit from EF getting money from foereign students. It's a private company, isn't it?
