Weismuller just had this odd charisma about him which makes you cheer for Tarzan. He was no great actor but he was perfect for this role. Wonderful escapism and still makes great viewing on a Saturday morning.
I completed this review, uploaded it, and even went through an appeal step to get the video approved by Warner Brothers, then noticed that I missed part of my script where I mentioned Johnny Sheffield, so including it here (because I really don't want to try uploading this again!) The missing comments: I thought that Johnny Sheffield did a great job as well as the character Boy. He's not in the film a great deal, but when he is, I really liked his positive attitude of being stuck in a circus and chatting with the elephants. It's almost like his character knows that Tarzan is driven enough to eventually rescue him, so he just needs to hang in there. I thought it was great how his character gets to do some of his own high-wire stunts as well in the film.
I'm 70 years old and one of the pleasures growing up was to watch Jungle Theater on Sunday afternoons. Tarzan & Jungle Jim. We all did our best to do our Tarzan yell.
Wonderful Review. There’s an essay by Russian poet Joseph Brodsky on movies he watched in the repressive Soviet era, this movie being one of them. Although we generally think of the Tarzan movies are just escapist fare, Brodsky wrote that Tarzan’s jump off the Brooklyn bridge while being chased by the police, was seen as an act of defiance against the police state. He wrote that he and other poets started growing their hair after Weismuller’s Tarzan.
Have loved watching Johnny Wissmuller movies since a young child use to do his yells while walking and shopping with my mom, which she would talk a few steps a head of me. Now just about 67, I still enjoy them greatly. Sorry, I'm not married, if I was, I'm sure my wife too would take a few fast steps a head of me, with a red, red face.
elmo lincoln the screens very first adult tarzan in the very first tarzan film appears in this tarzan film . the reason that i say he was the screens very first adult tarzan is that in the very first tarzan film tarzan is first seen as a boy . from michael from Yorkshire and proud of it .

True story , my sisters and mother would always tell the story my brother was 6 or 7 years old and they came across a tree monkey 🐒 and my sister told him to climb up the tree like Tarzan and get the monkey 🐒 and my brother did just that 😮😢 only the monkey bit him and my brother punch the monkey 🐒 and monkey disappeared into the branches , later on my brother oh course felt so bad for punching the monkey 🐒 that he was crying , oh course like 2 or 3 years old , but it was a nice story we as siblings always shared and laugh 😆 😅

His co-star Maureen O'Sullivan once said he would have been a great silent film actor, because he had a very expressive face.

Johnny Sheffield had a nice little movie franchise when he got older, as Bomba the Jungle Boy. For that era he was pretty buff!
