Any idea where I could order the metal coolant pipes? Also do you think a indy could the job just fine? Mechanics around me have never seen a F-Type, but I read somewhere that they are not too bad to work on
I bought a used 2016 F-Type R convertible four years ago. From CarMax! 42,000 miles, $42,000.00. Fleet lease. California car. Immaculate. Best thing I've ever done. Good grief, it's fast.
The F-Type will go down as one of the greatest and most iconic modern British cars. Convertible R AWD, Navy exterior over Red interior with the carbon blade wheels for me please.
Really sad that there is this misconception of Jags being unreliable, because I think it has cost them dearly in terms of sales. I own a 2010 XF and it still drives like new, and apart from a couple of minor niggles I've never had any issues in the 4 years I have owned it. I'm a member of various Jag forums and the opinion of most owners is the same. You can pick them up for next to nothing yet everybody goes for a BMW or an Audi. Their loss, but Jaguar's also. I'd love an F-Type and would buy one in a heartbeat but either the wife or the dog would have to go. Why there are not tens of thousands of these around I really do not know, why you would buy almost anything else for £25-30K or even way more is totally beyond me.
@@severnsea I wonder, too. I had the XF and the only things that sometimes hiccups was the multimedia console (electronic problems). Other than that it was reliable and I was sad to swap it after 4 years and 168km.
Same here, I also have the 2010 model and all I've had to replace in 7 years is the front suspension arms, probably damaged by all the potholes we have here in the UK. It has just passed it's MOT (tough UK annual roadworthiness test here in the UK) with no problems. Look after them and they'll be fine, not like the current crop of new cars like Kia and Ford which are blowing engines and gearboxes after 15000 miles. What happens is you get idiots making videos who have never even owned it driven one banging in about how unreliable they are. There's one in here from a 15 year old kid who goes around dealers' lots reviewing cars, but he can't even drive so doesn't even get the keys to the car - and he's advising people what to buy and what to leave alone. Several others and countless comments from kids who aren't old enough to have owned a car for more than a year let alone have enough experience to be able to review a whole range of them yet somehow they get the views and everybody believes them.
Great video. Recently traded my 2023 P450 AWD (black/red) for 2024 P575 R75 in BRG/tan, black out package) - love them both. The R75 is bonkers! Agree that they are massively under rated. Classic lines, visceral experience and great fun. Very few F-Types in my Canadian city of 100,000, so plenty of complements, thumbs up, smiles and chats with people that appreciate them. I've been falling in love with this cars style. I used to own a 1969 GT6 and the shape has echoes of that with the long front end. I really want one but the cheapest here in Brazil is about £48k for an old one.. They come in cheaper than any 911 here though so one might end up in my garage.
Just to let you know; 1/ the reason the values open over 3000 rpm was because you were in dynamic. negative on #1 for a 2016 R (US). Opens around 4k and up during heavier throttle, in 'normal' exhaust mode. With exhaust button pressed it's loud all the time. Dynamic defaults to loud exhaust mode, but it can be turned off in dynamic, at which point it opens 4k+. This is almost surely different depending on year and market i would imagine... and my valve might be tired so maybe it's slow to open. #4 is very true. no real down sides except cost. no cold braking issues or excessive noise really either. no fade, no dust 👍

I have an all black Santorini 2015 R with the optional carbon blade wheels. As for the handling each wheel is monitored every 500 milliSecs and it does have torque braking, so driving around a tight bend it brakes the inside wheels and drives the outer wheels, whilst monitoring each wheel as you go. This is quite good for spirited driving but I feel as if it removes the individual from the dynamics of the cars' handling and hence enjoyment. (The tech involved was what was banned from F1 back in the 90's where Williams had the system and trounced the field, so I believe). I agree on the steering wheel being big, but mine does have the flat bottom which makes it look smaller at least. I was put off by this wheel when looking & sitting in lesser models. Another important aspect as well is to ensure your 4 wheel alignment is good I had an issue where the front near side tyre was wearing more than others. In a nutshell the car does make me smile most of the time and I feel great in it and get a lot of appreciative smiles, it's British not German. Oh & btw to all F-Type owners be limited on the pops & bangs as this is unspent fuel burning in the exhaust which may degrade the cats quicker!
These are great cars, massively underrated. I remember seeing one for the first time. I promised myself id get one when prices come down, but there still holding value well.
Another great video Joel. Loving this series of totally honest reviews. I’m a JLR fan. The F Type R V8 is my dream car. The convertible is the pick. 👌👏 epic sounds burbling away
Bought one myself five months ago having been M series and AMG orientated. A simply stunning car super quality interior. My only issue which is a known is that the central vent has stopped rising and lowering. The best feature is a simple one, large temp dials almost Tonka toy like!
Drove one of these alongside a 360 and a gallardo. The jag was my favourite to drive. Not saying its better, but over the 3 or 4 laps I did, I really grew with it and got faster easier, if that makes sense,
Regarding the rear spoiler button: it only works with engine off and in ignition mode. It’s there to allow cleaning underneath. Try to start the car and it will remind you it is in cleaning mode. Otherwise? There is no manually controlling it. It comes up at 70 mph and back down at 50 mph (or around there)
Great video, and superb review. That looks like my old neck of the woods, is that shot in leafy Surrey? Anyway, I recently bought a 2016 F-Type R Coupé AWD-I live in the US now-and I absolutely love it. The best decision I've made in a long time! It only has 28,000 miles on it and still looks like brand new. I managed to pick it up for $50,000, which I think is a total bargain for the amount of car I have sitting on my driveway. It's nice to see that it is loved by other car enthusiasts of all ages. Thanks again for a great video, I am going to take mine out for a run. Cheers, Mark.
Enjoyable review but you are preaching to the converted as I have one. Mine is a 2017 3.0S AWD in Firesand obvs. Love it to bits. A couple of things though; I noticed you using the gear lever over to the right in sport mode but you didn’t mention that in the review. Sport plus dynamic turns my car into a mental thing and reviewers never seem to mention the difference it makes. The other thing is how did you get the reversing camera to stay on when forward driving? I wasn’t aware that could be done but can think of a few occasions when it could be useful.
Why are Jaguar dropping cars like this in favour of anonymous SUVs? Surely there are plenty of other manufacturers making boring boxes for those that want them.
As good as these are, they just don't sell in high volume. They just aren't practical for anyone except enthusiasts who love them. I have a 2015 F-Type R, but I drive an SUV on a daily basis, which keeps my F-Type pristine and more special on the times I do take it out, maybe once or twice a week when the weather is good. It sleeps in the garage through the Winter. Most manufacturers, Porsche included, as making their bread and butter on SUVs, and many are going full electric now. These high-power ICE cars are becoming dinosaurs, unfortunately. It makes me sad, and I only pray that more progress is made in the development and cost reduction of synthetic fuels so that we can continue to run our ICE cars in an environmentally friendly manner. I would hate to think that EVs are our long-term future.
I have the fully modded V6S manual 456bhp, if you like noise i have one of the loudest f types in the country louder than a V8, if you want to drive it let me know. Great video, the f type is underestimated.
Youre not wrong about the arrow in the heart. Ever since driving one ive had motivation to push myself so that i can hopefully buy one soon. I drove the v6 and then the 2.0 the year later. Ive yet to drive the v8 but maybe someone will let me before i start shopping
What a strange car. The interior is like an E-Class (from the same era) with the huge steering wheel, the options and all the buttons.. very luxurious. But it looks and sounds like an Aston Martin. Best of both worlds?
The F Type is a fantastic car.Looks and drives really well.I would love to know how you feel about it in comparison to the yellow base 911 Carrera you drove a year or so ago.
Great review! But I am biased to the brand. Fortunately F types are rare in Canada. Lots of looks, smiles and thumbs up from all I come across. Great times when I get both the 68 E type and 18 R coupe in matching colors out on the road together. Cheers!!
Nasty rearend collision last weekend ended my mint condition 2016 R Carbon, which I planned to keep until the Gov't bans fun cars. Now what???? Another one? Or, is there anything else out there? No EVs for me.
@Adamkershaw1 Well it's no lie to say JLR group cars don't hold the best rep in the world. Bearing in mind it's a very powerful car it needs proper servicing and maintenance it's not cheap, but nor is owing a 911. The f type is more reliable than a 911, don't expect it to be a cheap to run car, but then you wouldn't expect a 911 to the cheap either
Looks like that car is in Santorini black. I have a '16 3.0S manual trans coupe in that color, not as fast but lighter, still overkill for the twisty roads of New Hampshire, USA, where I live. Great sound too, I keep it in dynamic mode, the exhaust valve is always open. My car has all the options, 32,000 miles now, only goes out on the good days. In the US we don't have that silly airbag thing that pops the bonnet up, I think hitting the engine would be the least of a pedestrian's worries. Perhaps if British roads had cleared shoulders/verges so people could step off the pavement fewer of them would be hit, instead thick vegetation grows right up to the pavement, there is nowhere for walkers or cyclists to go.
So Joel, I get the sense that your opinion - subtle though it was - is generally positive? It was hard to tell for sure. Just kidding obviously. What a beautiful car!
having a Jag XE AWD, I totally understand about the AWD just being too grippy and not playful enough for the feeling of the spirited drive. Using my XE, the main reason I got rid of it was the head unit. For music, it just was OK enough to stream spotify from your phone with none of the features. It was just too dated, and clunky.
It’d be good to do a comparison with a V6 S and hear your thoughts! Also I reckon the flat bottomed steering wheel is going to be smaller and feel better proportioned than the fully round ones ☺️
Fantastic review. Love your British accent and colloquialisms, how apropos. I live in the United States and this is the next car that will be in my collection. I've been looking at them and wanting one for a while I just already have 12 and value my ability to not be a corporate slave. I can well afford it I'm just holding off as long as possible on spending near 50 Grand but it's coming lol. I have an 04 XJR in my collection and this parked beside it would be stellar. Fab review Joel!
I recently sold my RWD F Type R and really miss it, no other car has the sense of occasion that car offered. Was a handful in anything other than bone dry though
The F-Type was just a bit too focused for my liking. Seems like Jag targeted 911 track performance as their benchmark and left much of the Jag legacy in the bin. I ultimately purchased an XK as it's more refined, comfortable, curvy; like the Jags of old, yet it seems particularly well balanced when pushed to the limits. I'm equally thrilled to be behind the wheel of the XK rippin' through the 'Tail of the Dragon' or pulling into my favorite restaurant for dinner. The XK is a class act that is tough to beat and I think it appeals to a much wider audience. Yes, the XK is slower than the 911, but when you drive a Jag do you really care?
although of course its not a v8 and it will take some time before i ever change to electric look up the jaguar gt for 2025 for looks its an f type plus
You sure it’s a 2014 f type r, awd? Looks like a 2016 because it was first year awd “r” was offered also based on placement of heat extractors on hood (bonnet)
Hiya mate. Was on the Z4 Goodwood run with u a few years back. Had my Zed 5 years now. Still love it but passing it onto my son and been looking at the F type. Don't suppose you've reviewed the V6 s and I've missed it? Just wondering whether the V8 is worth it over the V6 when the V6 can be mapped and achieve over 400 horse power. Another crackin review buddy👍👍
I had a V6S and regret selling it. I'm now after a V8 purely for the noise. Having driven both the V6 and V8 for the average driver there's not a great deal of difference. The chassis is just so solid that I doubt most people would ever reach its maximum. Some people say the heavier V8 may affect it but, look at the engine...the V6 is a V8 with 2 cylinders blanked off.
They are not bad, coolant pipes is basically the only weakness, they get brittle with heat and can crack / leak. Can be preventingly changed for aftermarket metal ones and that's about it. I own a 2016 V6, no issues at all so far. Maintenance in the dealership is expensive, it is yearly and changes year to year. I imagine you could find a good indy and save a lot.
J.L.R. are committing suicide by their stopping of ice engines in their vehicles. The F Type is one of the best cars for the money on the road. I sold my V6S and am after a V8svr now. Oh and if you lightly feather the throttle on the over run you can create a non stop crackling exhaust note...hour of fun :-)
I do like the rear end styling, but the front looks a bit plain and gawky. They are certainly fast enough, but are they really a sports car ? I see them more as a GT car. No way are they a 'supercar beater', not in the same league. The majority of true sports cars will leave this for dead in the corners, and cornering is what a sports car should be about. Outright acceleration means nothing these days, there are dozens of SUV's that can beat this from a standstill, so 0-60 times mean nothing, because SUV's are not sports cars either. I looked at a few of these, when I contemplated my current car, but I didn't think the interior was that great, and the car just felt heavy and a bit numb. I couldn't quite stretch to a Cayman GT4, which would have been my ideal purchase, and a genuine real sportscar, so I got myself an M2. I made the right choice, it IS a real sports car.
I own a XKR-S, same AJ133 as the F Type R, it’s pretty easy to find someone to work on it once they look at it. It’s actually pretty similar to work on as the domestic muscle cars. Any good Indy that focuses on performance cars is happy to work on mine once taking a look at it.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 that’s wild, let NJ 12 years ago but would’ve imagined it’d be easy to find a competent mech. I’m.m now in rural Georgia and take my car to a performance shop that specializes in Mustangs. They do great work and I always get my car back fast.

Yes it is a lethal weapon for anyone without experience and a whole lot of restraint (and that’s in the dry)! In the rain it’s just a monster that’s trying to kill you. I was going to get rid and then I descoved this - The trick is to turn the traction control to tracDSC or off. It then becomes an absolute gem. Much more predictable and adjustable with the throttle. Little power slides out of corners can be had on tap. I’ve got the ceramic brakes as well which are epic. It’s a keeper.
@@TIMSANDYSURF Great review BTW. I loved my Jag, the sound and power were amazing...and it was a real head turner. Having the AWD must make a huge difference.
Who said they are favouring suvs
Sales numbers dont lie...F types on Autotrader 6 months. Whose buying lol
Market demands
I have the fully modded V6S manual 456bhp, if you like noise i have one of the loudest f types in the country louder than a V8, if you want to drive it let me know. Great video, the f type is underestimated.
Very loud cars get very tiring very fast…
True successor to the E-Type, modern classic. Enjoyed my XK 5.0 convertible but this is in a different league for me.
Youre not wrong about the arrow in the heart. Ever since driving one ive had motivation to push myself so that i can hopefully buy one soon. I drove the v6 and then the 2.0 the year later. Ive yet to drive the v8 but maybe someone will let me before i start shopping
The V6 is the best sounding engine in any " normal " car ever.
Don’t talk wet.
My mom bought one kislux and she loves it. It had been there for over 10 years when she went out with it.
What a strange car. The interior is like an E-Class (from the same era) with the huge steering wheel, the options and all the buttons.. very luxurious. But it looks and sounds like an Aston Martin. Best of both worlds?
A proper Jag then
I've had a v6 s for over 3 years in the same colour as the one shown with dove grey seats ,best car I've ever owned for fun
Exactly the useful type of review I enjoy the most. Thank you
The F Type is a fantastic car.Looks and drives really well.I would love to know how you feel about it in comparison to the yellow base 911 Carrera you drove a year or so ago.
Great review! But I am biased to the brand. Fortunately F types are rare in Canada. Lots of looks, smiles and thumbs up from all I come across.
Great times when I get both the 68 E type and 18 R coupe in matching colors out on the road together. Cheers!!
Brilliant value and much better looking than the new AM Vantage. Much prefer the vertical headlights to the newer horizontal ones
Nasty rearend collision last weekend ended my mint condition 2016 R Carbon, which I planned to keep until the Gov't bans fun cars. Now what???? Another one? Or, is there anything else out there? No EVs for me.
I can say with certainty, cars will not improve on what was allowed when this was made. Keep it forever!
I have a tuned 670 BHP F type. Blisteringly quick, too quick for the roads 99% of the time, legendary sound, reliable too.
I’m looking at some, are they reliable?
@Adamkershaw1 Well it's no lie to say JLR group cars don't hold the best rep in the world. Bearing in mind it's a very powerful car it needs proper servicing and maintenance it's not cheap, but nor is owing a 911. The f type is more reliable than a 911, don't expect it to be a cheap to run car, but then you wouldn't expect a 911 to the cheap either
Anyone thinking of buying one DO IT
You will not regret it
Looks like that car is in Santorini black.
‘If you’re American, that’s five foot ten’ 😂😂😂
Good that Joel , gotta love a V8 😊 , Cheers fella 👍
I love my 2017 R convertible.... Get the velocity AP tune 650HP crazy fast
Want one
Same as me.. it’s been about a year now.. I have a M2 now but god I miss the F type 😢
That's a UA-camr called too tall to drive he done a mpg test he come out with some impressive numbers to
The F-Type was just a bit too focused for my liking.
Great review of a great car. Well done
Thanks for watching
Jaguar are making a strategic error dropping such cars as this. They are losing their identity.
although of course its not a v8 and it will take some time before i ever change to electric look up the jaguar gt for 2025 for looks its an f type plus
So sad these types of car aren’t going to be built anymore. What a noise. 😍
You sure it’s a 2014 f type r, awd? Looks like a 2016 because it was first year awd “r” was offered also based on placement of heat extractors on hood (bonnet)
i had this exact car. I miss it.
25k?
When I was looking for a V8 AWD they were North of 30k and that was only 4 months ago. Hence I have imported a XKR from Japan.
Beautiful design , an affordable Aston Martin . Really surprised with the potential mpg
Good videao. Would be great to see an early AMG GT review on the back of this.
V8 all day long
I'm wondering which is more reliable, the AWD vs RWD? I didn't really enjoy the old x type maintenance, and its AWD wasn't very reliable.
RWD
Beautiful car! 🥰😍🤩
My fav car.. have the 2016 R coupe in firesand orange. Mine is tuned and has a race exhaust system. Have some vids on here as well 😊
How did you get your go pro feed on the infotainment?
Nice, but that center console design I recon is no good, along with Aston martins in general. 992 cleaner, more timeless.
Yeah I always look at the hatchback to remind me its ab E-type.
Well presented review.
Have you driven a RWD version yet?
Is that colour carpathian grey?
Honestly the XKR is way better good looking one .. much more fancy , fabulous
Agreed
@@2702simmo yes indeed ..thanks
The XKR was the best jaguar ever made, since the e-type. The F type was great, but not as classy as the XKR.
appreciate the dry humour 😊
How are these F-types in terms of reliability and maintenance costs?
They are not bad, coolant pipes is basically the only weakness, they get brittle with heat and can crack / leak. Can be preventingly changed for aftermarket metal ones and that's about it. I own a 2016 V6, no issues at all so far. Maintenance in the dealership is expensive, it is yearly and changes year to year. I imagine you could find a good indy and save a lot.
Post 2017 models are better. Lower Tax, Apple CarPlay, LED”s
‘You can see what your lap time is going to be’… its a future predictor….. time to bet on yourself 😂
Nice cars but I’ve no major desire to buy one. I think the looks put me off a little
The previous gen XK were a much better looking car
J.L.R. are committing suicide by their stopping of ice engines in their vehicles.
I had a RWD F-Type R, and I was a moron for selling it.
Lovely car, shame they are so much on the road tax
Over here in the USA, low mileage example sell for cheap. But good luck finding a mechanic to work on one. Not even the dealer wants to be bothered.
I own a XKR-S, same AJ133 as the F Type R, it’s pretty easy to find someone to work on it once they look at it. It’s actually pretty similar to work on as the domestic muscle cars. Any good Indy that focuses on performance cars is happy to work on mine once taking a look at it.
@@MC-ys4yf No it's not easy to find someone to work on it because they don't want to look at it.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 I’ve had zero issues finding anyone here stateside.
@@MC-ys4yf I am in NJ and can't find one competent mechanic.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 that’s wild, let NJ 12 years ago but would’ve imagined it’d be easy to find a competent mech. I’m.m now in rural Georgia and take my car to a performance shop that specializes in Mustangs. They do great work and I always get my car back fast.
I love the look of this - the only thing that stops me is the fact the 996/997 turbo exists
You can’t even get a 996 turbo for £25k! Even £30k would only get you the version with the shite slush box Tiptronic gearbox!
@@MrCaterhamr500 you can! check out auto trader, I had a 996 turbo a few years ago and the Tiptronic box isn't a problem, the car has so much shove it doesn't matter! Plus it was my daily commuting car AND I LOVED IT! I paid £26k at auction
@@MrCaterhamr500 sold it and put the money towards my current car, an Aston Martin DBS Vantage from 1970 - it's been great, but going to move it on and get back in a TURBO
Totally different cars for different jobs, in my opinion
Shame on the management at Jaguar. They've betrayed the heritage of this fine marque and betrayed their customers. Disgraceful that they concentrate on boring SUV boxes and the doomed EV project Toad-faced iPace. I'm a proud owner of an X351 XJ. I will never forgive the morons at JLR.
The national fuel reserve was only just dented after making this video.
Nah buy an Aston Vantage!
Lovely car but that millage is mental for a car of that age
A 10 year old car with less than 80K? Sounds very average…
Seen F type down to £18k.
Crazy isn’t it!
Beautiful cars
Drivetrain made of cheddar and no storage space, though?
I have an itch for one of these.
I'd love to read your sources for that? ZF 8 speed is well proven in all sorts of applications.
@@Bluebottle_GBsample size of 1, my mate’s car was never right. Prop and diff problems. Regular £1-2k bills
@Si_G I've had 4.. no issues with any of mine other than a O2 sensor.
Reliable the V8 not the V6 😂
Lord Jagi
I had the RWD version for a year...absolute death trap! No traction control whatsoever.
The traction control seemed to take an age to kick in when needed.....and by that stage a less experienced driver would have been eating hedges by that stage. I do miss that car through.
Keeps you on your toes 😅
You probably skimped on the tyres. I've owned the RWD F Type R for seven years and it's very predictable you just need to be competent with throttle control.
@@juvenil6969 yep, that’s what it’ll be! You melt!!
V6 Sound > V8. Can’t believe mine has been in the garage for 3 months 😢
25:55
I couldn’t come to terms with swapping the P car for an F Type so I guess it’s one car that I never get to own but I can live with that I suppose.
Buy both!!!
why would anyone want a noisy exhaust?
To annoy you by the sound of it? 😂
To help the blind people.
