    My son and I used Foam Mega Darts, cut the rubber tip off and then cut each dart in half to make 2 stacks apx 4cm high. :-)

      Just the cheap knock off ones on eBay though, not actual Nerf or branded :-)

    Nice job on the tires is the little things that really make a track look great. A couple ideas that might help you out and make your life a bit easier on them. To keep your center hole in the center is drill your hole through the insulation then just carefully put your punch over it and punch it out. You'll have to use a rod that is a bit closer to the diameter of the punch of course. When you have the tires cut to size you can use a blade or even a wire brush to make treads on them. Don't use that putty on then just coat them in Mod Podge then do your painting. If you put the tires on a rod with a bit of space between them it's easy and not as messy to paint them can do it very quickly. Then after the sides and tread parts dry take off the rod and paint the insides use a piece of parchment baking paper to dry them on. The Mod Podge will make them very durable. Another thing people use for tires is the foam nerf darts cut into the widths of tires they already have the center holes in them. Just find the larger Nerf darts to scale to your tires.

    Hey "Mikey" I like it!
    Cheap tires made out of scrap foam!
    I'm gonna have to try that trick like I did your spray foam mountains / rocks!

    Cool! Looks like one could use offbrand Nerf pellets cut to tire width and painted black too perhaps?

    That's a lot of work for a single tyre at a time. If you have access to a lathe, get a bit of dowel or broom handle. Cut a piece maybe 4" long and stick it in the chuck. Drill up the guts about 1/2" diameter. Grind a thin v shaped tool with slight concave on the faces of the v. Proceed to cut in as if parting off to make grooves around the piece. Round off the ends and inside the hole, then part off to form 4 or 5 tyres in one stack. Paint them black or white to suit.

      Thank you Ray...Yep it is some work, but not all the guys out there have access to a lathe. That’s why I came up with this , so the average person could do it. But your system of building tires sounds like a good one..

      @@BoonesSlotCarGarage … My bad Boone. Please allow me try this again. After you paint the wheels, how do keep the wet paint from sticking to the surface on which they are drying?

      @@mikemueller1686 as long as the paint is fully dried, it doesn’t effect the glue from drying or the adhesive bond

      @@BoonesSlotCarGarage … Obviously I’m doing a poor job of getting the point of my question to you. Hopefully, three’s a charm. 😂 Once you finish painting each tire, what do you do with them until the paint dries? Is there an issue with them sticking to the the surface you place them on?

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  Рік тому +1

      @@mikemueller1686 😂…. Ohhh … 😂… with acrylic paint it dries very quickly, and since the individual tires are so light it doesn’t really cause an issue. But you could always use a wire or a small dowel that fits in the center of the tire and suspend them till they are dry. Just paint one and slide it on the wire till dry

      I saw your post earlier and I have been pondering while I have been working on my wife’s weekend hunny do list... what I came up with is 5/16 thin wall brass tubing that you can find at a hobby shop or hardware store... this diameter should work, it was between this and 11/32 ... if you have a drill hole gage you can use this as a visual aid in finding the correct size you want. But I believe that this will work....
