Another day out on the cheap folder - taking the scenic way to the Sustrans Route 65 Solar System Cycle Trail into York. A sunny Winter day was a great backdrop on what is now my all-time favourite route, and the folder held up well on the long and often bumpy journey (plus the train ride back). As an added bonus, York Market has an amazing array of street food choices to boost your energy after a long day in the saddle.

Cheers! Same here - I've ridden road bikes, MTBs and tourers since I was a child and then suddenly discovered these. How's the Raleigh? I fancy adding one to my collection at some point

@@8hrAdventures hi, the Raleigh is good too, it feels a bit different to my carrera in that it's a slightly further forward front wheel and the handle bars are lower. It rolls along nicely and has a rack, stand and even stands up nicely when folded, they have put a bit of thought into it. Happy travels 👍

I really enjoyed that ride. There is a similar display in a town 20 miles over. What bike is that?

It's a Saker Classic. I have no idea who made them or where it originated, but it's very sturdy and cheap to pick up online. It doesn't come with a folding stem though - I added that myself.

This can only be done on a tern or brompton 😂

Can be done on any folder. The difference is on my TERN VERGE X18. You move faster. And have to expend alot less watts and energy. (Especially on steep hills). Than you would on a cheap heavy folder.
I know I've got a cheap heavy folder. And have done the same 7 mile commute to work on an 85% uphill grade. The difference is night and day. Especially on those hills. Between my Carerra intercity. And my Tern Verge X18..
35 to 40 minutes to get there on the Intercity. With my legs are done.
25 to 30 minutes to get there on the X18. And it's as if I had gone for a stroll. That's what you pay the big money for. The same reason nobody's gonna win the Tour de France. On a 29lb folding bike bought off their mate for £50. But a 15lb elite carbon road bike costing 10k or more...
I spin my front wheel on the Carerra. It SPINS for 2 minutes. I spin my front wheel on the X18 it spins for 13 minutes. That's what you are paying for. Supreme EFFICIENCY.
And if your bike is your only form of transport. And you often ride 20 plus mile journeys. It's a great investment anyhow. My Carerra cost me £200. My X18 £1200. But I know which one I'm jumping on everytime. If I have a long journey with alot of hills that many cyclists would have to walk their bikes up..
My folders have saved me over 25k in travel expenses. Over the last 10 years. Thats how you have to look at it.

What a great adventure, thanks for uploading this.
It really is a beautiful country ride, doesnt look to cold either.
I had the same bike a few years ago and it served me fantastic, someone else is happy
riding around on it now in London. (without my consent)
    look forward to more ..

Thank you! And it's good to hear from someone who had one of these because it's been virtually impossible to find out much about it online. And riding this trail is the most fun I've had in years - I'll definitely be revisiting it (hopefully on a less windy day)

Ha ha love that. comment "NOT A BROMPTON". Brompton may be the king of the fold. But its long been surpassed for performance as an actual folding bike. My Tern Verge X18. Is the greatest folder I've ever ridden. Fast as a road bike. And takes hills like they dont exist. Bromptons are like Rolex's. They sell on their name now. More than their bang for your buck.
