  • ⤵️More info below⤵️
I always like to go to my limits and test what I can expect from my body and my mind.
Today I'm starting a self-experiment in which I want to try to sleep in the straw only in my underwear.
11 hours with minus 5 degrees, snow, ice and wind.
Can you survive a night like this?
Take a look inside and accompany me through the frosty night
    Lots of love, Vanessa

I always love how Europeans say things differently "I make an alarm" where we would say "I set an alarm" and "I did a mistake" as opposed to "I made a mistake", it's kind of endearing. English isn't the easiest language to get a handle on all its peculiarities and nuances and I agree it's cool to hear how other nationalities use it.

Actually you are better off in skivvies under straw or in sleeping bags because clothing can prevent the circulation of air next to your skin, leading to sweating and damp clothing, which freezes when you leave the bed. By all means put your clothing and boots under the straw or in your bag too, because that will stop it freezing outside and you will have something warmer to climb into in the morning. The alternative is to wear dry woollen socks and a wool sweater and a hat in bed, which you swap for dry clothes in the morning. (The sweater keeps your core warm, the socks keep your feet warm, you tuck your hands under your arms, and you don’t lose heat through your head.)

Then piling the leaves up and letting them dry out by tossing them a few times during the day. Then at night I wrapped up in a poncho do to how wet the leaves were.

I was listening to a brain researcher and he was saying exposing your body to cold and also to strenuous exercise releasing chemicals that are believed to slow aging and promote healing.

    • @Mel-qr5ob
      @Mel-qr5ob 3 роки тому

Just want to point out that breathing cold aur can also promote lung damage.
In NZ our rental houses are mostly uninsulated (and up until June this year, it's still gonna be legal for houses to be uninsulated like that), I've been inside houses that are -3C and everyone just wears lots of blankets and warm clothes to bed while breathing in the *literally freezing* air.
Our country also has some very high rates of rheumatic fever, bronchitis, and athsma compared to developed countries in similar climates(spoiler: basically all those countries have had insulation laws in place for decades)
It's not a coincidence we have such high rates here, there's research supporting that the lack of insulation here increases everyone's risk of illness and disease, hence the new law coming into effect this year.
Up till then everyones opinion was "oh just toughen up ya wuss" now its "oh shoot the cold is actually killing children and teens the long slow way, via lung damage, ok we care now"
So yeah cold can be good in some ways and bad in others so don't go doing something that can solve one issue and simultaneously cause another ok?
      Just worried for ur health.

Please forgive me for thinking you might be a little bit mad, and rather gorgeous! You look oh so beautiful in infrared, but at -5 degrees, I'm feeling fro your safety! and you haven't fully recovered from your illness! I was relieved to see you wrapped up warm and had enjoyed a coffee. I would like to say it was fun spending the night in the hay with you, if not a little scary. In Romania like 3 generations ago, people used to make their mattress out of hay and if you go to some villages you'll still find those beds. Hay does keep you more warm than some other sources, and it is a bit more comfortable (don't expect a good night's sleep though, its better than christmas tree's branches.

Whether you're camping/backpacking, hiking, etc. Maybe there's a change in the weather, you find yourself with faulty equipment, have an unexpected fall, etc. It's good to know as many tips as possible. Quality content though Wild Woman Bushcraft aka Vanessa Blank. 💫💫💯💯
