@@castlegarden2999 what evidence are you speaking of? Has he admitted to that in an interview or something? 16:12 and 20:07 I think it's cool how in some versions, Christine touches the mask and looks around her for help. As if no one expected the Phantom to replace Piangi on stage and now Christine is hoping there's an officer or Raoul to come and catch him. Then the Phantom firmly holds onto her like, "The jig is up, don't go anywhere." But like SOMEONE had to have guessed there'd be a bait and switch right? The first recording makes me think of if Erik's music was real and gained popularity after the 1910 novel as "rediscovered opera" found in his subterranean home and recorded for the phonograph. It has that same sound quality.
It bums me that in the movie Christine doesn't seem as scared of Erik in this scene...She seems more willing to leave with him and even Raoul sees that (until they shoot and he takes her and now she's scared again -.-') and in the musical the majority of the Christine's are scared af... How can I ship you if you do that dammit 😭
The movie really ruined this! Since I've never seen the real production just bootlegs I had to figure out how the scene really goes by myself. Totally different!
Yeah! I love that about Erik's character and that's shown in the original book and even more in Kay's Phantom, and I think they implemented that a little more in the movie than in the musical...yet both are still far from the original story but meh...Idk, I still love the musical tho xD That Kid Is Not Here
You know, it's weird, this scene is the only, the ONLY one in the movie that I like better than stage, (character motivation-wise, that is. I could def do without the flamenco backup dancers...). Raoul et. al. are trying to trap the Phantom, and they know he is going to make an appearance Eventually. In the movie It seems Christine knows right away that it's The Phantom (most likely because she recognizes his singing voice, and it's obviously not Piangi), and I see her attitude of fearlessness as her putting on an act to get him to think she has "decided... de-ci-ded" but is really luring him out into the open so he can get captured. The Shot of Raoul tearing up is.. well.. him not being very bright and thinking she's serious. That's my interpretation, anyways.
Andrew MacLaine My thoughts, exactly! I take that scene in the movie as Christine gaining a backbone and realizing that she has the power to not only lure and trick Erik, but also put on a show.
Yey new set of comparisons! Thanks for this. Anyway, my favorites: Jill Washington, Meredith Braun, Charlotte Page, Rachel Barrell, Gina Beck, Anna O'Byrne, Olivia Brereton (very nice, I'd love to see her in the original choreography. I don't like the new one), Katie Hall, Sofia Escobar, Sarah Brightman, Sandra Joseph, Susan Owen, Trista Moldovan, Samantha Hill, Elizabeth Welch, Sara Jean Ford, Sierra Boggess, Mary D'Arcy, Dodie Pettit, Teri Bibb, Rebecca Pitcher, Lisa Vroman, Elizabeth Southard, Sarah Lawrence, Jennifer Hope Wills, Julia Udine (without that silly dance please), Ryoko Nomura, Kyoko Suzuki, Hisako Hanaoka, Teresa DeZarn, Melissa Dye, Luzia Nistler, Joke de Kruijf, Maaike Widdershoven, Colby Thomas, Alison Kelly, Janine Kitzen, Sandra Danyella, Valerie Link, Julia Moller, Renata Krassy, Barbara Fonyo, Kiara Sasso, Mia Karlsson, Ana Marina, and Claire Lyon. PS: That Aminta dress is my favorite costume in Phantom. I really enjoy watching the Christines singing while swinging that skirt haha
Too bad that there is no video footage of the Czech production of Phantom...I saw it live a few weeks ago and the PONR scene was done amazingly there! During these lines, Christine climbed onto the table and the Phantom pulled her towards him across the table by her legs and then she let him caress her a bit before the final chorus and before she torn off his hood. They made it really nicely, I must say. Too bad that they are closing at the end of the year
I do have audio bootleg footage from there however (I know I am not supposed to do it, but they didn't have a cast recording) I have Think of Me from the Czech version on my channel if you would like to take a listen to it
I like the earlier takes on this scenes from the late 80s/90s. It never made any sense to me that Christine didnt know or heavily suspect that it was the Phantom under there from the beginning. Thats her angel of music and she doesnt recognize his voice? Come on. I like the idea more that she suspects or knows its him from the get go but is biding her time and leading him on until she can reveal him, all the while getting sort of caught up in the steamyness of the song. Her suddenly feeling the mask and trying to run of, and The Phantom pulling her just completely cuts the sensuality and the vibe from that scene. I dont know why they changed it.
Miss H It’s not you. It absolutely baffles me how anyone thought that choreography was a good idea. Christine dances on a table as the Phantom sits there and watches...🤔
ya no habra más bien o mal solo una duda cuando nos fundiremos en un ser cuando la sangre correrá? y el capullo se abrira? cuando nos quemará el fuego.. 42:26
Why does the Phantom sing Christine's part here in the Vegas production (as seen with Sierra Boggess/Brent Barrett at 22:42 and Elizabeth Loyacano/Anthony Crivello at 22:13 )? Was Christine given any part to sing during PONR in Vegas Phantom?
Because the Vegas production was drastically cut down. And yes, Christine does sing. The song basically goes like this: Phantom: "You have come here in pursuit of your deepest urge, in pursuit of that wish which til now has been silent, silent." Christine: "I have come here, that our passion at last may merge. In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining, defenseless and silent." Phantom: "And now you are here with me, no second thoughts. You've decided. Decided. Past the point of no return, no backward glances. Our games of make-believe are at an end. Past all thought of if or when. No use resisting. Abandon thought and let the dream descend. What raging fire shall flood the soul, what rich desire unlocks its door, what sweet seduction lies before us." Both: "Past the point of no return, the final threshold. The bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn. We've passed the point of no return." Note that there are videos of this scene on UA-cam, so you can watch and listen to it there.
If someone has a Greg mills's final lair, I will be very happy. I love this actor and his voice !!!!!!!! He's a hudge understudy's phantom !!! Before there was some video of him on You tube but I didin't find it (the contributor was Inallyourfantasies). Sorry for my english but I'm French.
Past all thought of right or wrong One final question How long should we two wait before we’re one? When will the blood begin to race the sleeping bud burst into bloom When will the flames at last consume us
Thank you for making this video! :) Can I ask where you got the clip of Sofia Escobar and Geronimo Rauch? I'm a big fan of Geronimo, and would like to see more clips of him as the phantom :)
All of the vocals are beautiful in their own way and I love listening to all of them. However, I have a question for anyone willing to answer. How do they sound lower than how high they’re actually singing? Is it because that’s a sign of proper singing technique, like resonance and fullness? I know that in live performances the music is transposed down key or two but to me it still sounds a little lower than that.
It could be because of the resonance, it could also just be certain qualities of their voice. Some singers just have "lighter" voices; these are ones that sound "higher". Others have "darker" or "warmer" voices, and these tend to sound "lower".
No, I've actually never seen the show live, so would have no opportunity to film them. (Plus, a few of them were filmed before I was *born*.) Several of these were professionally filmed and leaked, but most others were filmed by others.
Gina Beck plays one of the horniest Christines of all time and its one of the reasons she's one of my very favorites. She totally embraces the sexual side to Christine.
Nope, she didn't. There are various explanations for this. Many Phantoms put on an Italian accent, to better imitate PIangi, and Christine didn't recognize it because of that. Another is that she fell under the Phantom's hypnotic voice again, and it lulled her into a sense of complacency. And yet another possibility is that neither she nor anyone else expected the Phantom to actually be onstage, they thought he'd be in Box 5, so she brushes off any weirdness as her paranoia. Or it's a combination of all those explanations.
If you watch full footage of the scene (I uploaded one from the US Tour on my channel), at one point, when Christine is sitting on the table, the Phantom wraps his hands around Christine's head/eyes as a figurative "blindfold". Christine panics and pushes him off. In the restaged tour's 'Music of the Night', the Phantom puts an actual blindfold on Christine, and I think that's how she figures it out it's the Phantom with her - either the gesture, or his actual hands, are familiar to her.
lol there's never ever Craig Schulman in any of these (or anywhere I can find on youtube). Hmm. He was the first Phantom I ever saw, haha. I obviously liked him, watching that is what got me into this whole POTO thing. But now that I know other actors and the story a lot better, I've always wanted to look back and see what I think of him as Phantom now. Oh well. But Glass Prism I love that you do these, thanks. Doing the good work for all us phans
That's because there's no video of Craig Schulman's Phantom. There's audio, so he might appear in some of the audio comparisons, but nothing I know of beyond that (and some promo photos).
Thanks for responding! Someone did send me an audio recording of him doing the show a long time ago, so at least I got to hear that (just sound...and I don't have it anymore, it got lost on a computer that crashed). I guess he's really a phantom Phantom (get it). He will rest forevermore a blurry mystery memory in my mind as just my first Phantom and the one that made me a fan lol. I mean, it's the whole show/story/character that made me a fan, but I have to give him credit too obvs for convincing me
Teether Geaver Because she's just realized it's the Phantom and wants to get away from him. Also, not really sure what scene you want me to make a comparison of.
Glass Prism A comparison of the reaction of Christine when she realizes it is the phantom. You know, when the phantom is pulling her. From: "past the point of return, the final threshhold" to "the bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn". How did Christine know it was the phantom?
Teether Geaver I'll think about it, though I don't think there's a lot of variation in that scene. As for how she knew it was the Phantom, she felt the mask under his hood. (Notice how all the Christines rub their cheek against his face and then leap back.)
Teether Geaver Yes, every actress is different in their reaction and how they interpret the role. Some will break and flee, some will try to quietly get away, some might not even be that afraid of the Phantom. That's the beauty of theatre - everyone's different. But in general, most Christines are scared and do try to get away. (Generalization, woot.)
What is up with the UK tour? Budget too small to invest in a full cloak? ;) Lmao...I mean, the sleeves look ridiculous, plus they instantly give away the Phantom, which kind of defeats the whole idea behind this song. What were they thinking? And why deviate from the perfection that is the London production in the first place?
Because it is the Las Vegas production, which was shortened to a one act, 90 minute performance. This meant cutting some songs down, including 'Point of No Return'.
That's from the Vegas production. The Vegas production was shortened to a 1-act, 90 minute show, which meant cutting several lines and scenes. One of those scenes was 'Point of No Return'; they cut a lot of the Phantom's and especially Christine's lines, which is why lines are both switched around way, way shorter than in the regular show.
OMFG OKOK I HAVE TO TRY NOT TO SOUND CREEPY N OBSESSED AND STUFF BUT DUDE I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY LIKES THE SAME THINGS AS I DO LIKE SERIOUSLY I NEVER MENTION PHANTOM NOR HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON STUFF TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS AHAHAH THIS MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY okok Imma shut up now

I just noticed that Anna o Byrne's phantom lost his hood there
Good recovery though, well done, Marcus xxx
same here brother

PS: That Aminta dress is my favorite costume in Phantom. I really enjoy watching the Christines singing while swinging that skirt haha
Too bad that there is no video footage of the Czech production of Phantom...I saw it live a few weeks ago and the PONR scene was done amazingly there! During these lines, Christine climbed onto the table and the Phantom pulled her towards him across the table by her legs and then she let him caress her a bit before the final chorus and before she torn off his hood. They made it really nicely, I must say. Too bad that they are closing at the end of the year
There is some bootleg footage of the Czech production, but it did not include PONR unfortunately.
I do have audio bootleg footage from there however (I know I am not supposed to do it, but they didn't have a cast recording) I have Think of Me from the Czech version on my channel if you would like to take a listen to it
Oh, I have tons of audios from the Czech production; it's video I would love to have. But thanks.
AdriElsa 37 The new US tour has christine similarly climbing on the the table
What!? I need to see that!
Gosh! Elizabeth Southard is terribly good here isn't she? Totally nails it.
She was! Though I think it also helped that it was her last performance, and she was working with her real-life husband as the Phantom!
It is Ramin Karimloo and Lelia Benn Harris hands down. Whoa calm down Ramin. Easy boy.
Wow, the Budapest Christines got very pretty dresses.
Luv Anthony Crivello’s Tenor!!!!!!! My top Angel b.c of his Unique & Perfect Vocal Range for the Angel of Music!!!!!!!
Does the new tour's choreography not make any sense to anyone else, or is it just me being weird?
Miss H It’s not you. It absolutely baffles me how anyone thought that choreography was a good idea. Christine dances on a table as the Phantom sits there and watches...🤔
It’s not just you I don’t understand why they had Christine on the table
ya no habra más bien o mal
solo una duda
cuando nos fundiremos en un ser
cuando la sangre correrá?
y el capullo se abrira?
cuando nos quemará el fuego..

The song basically goes like this:
Phantom: "You have come here in pursuit of your deepest urge, in pursuit of that wish which til now has been silent, silent."
Christine: "I have come here, that our passion at last may merge. In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining, defenseless and silent."
Phantom: "And now you are here with me, no second thoughts. You've decided. Decided. Past the point of no return, no backward glances. Our games of make-believe are at an end. Past all thought of if or when. No use resisting. Abandon thought and let the dream descend. What raging fire shall flood the soul, what rich desire unlocks its door, what sweet seduction lies before us."
Both: "Past the point of no return, the final threshold. The bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn. We've passed the point of no return."
Note that there are videos of this scene on UA-cam, so you can watch and listen to it there.
Past all thought of right or wrong
One final question
How long should we two wait before we’re one?
When will the blood begin to race the sleeping bud burst into bloom
When will the flames at last consume us
Thank you for making this video!
Glass Prism Thank you very much!
27:24 Jeff Hyslop I'm just putting it on here for my personal reference for later
Can anyone send me the link to the entire song at 3:06? I haven't found a full version of these two!
did you film all of these? What an amazing compilation. Please keep it up!
No, I've actually never seen the show live, so would have no opportunity to film them. (Plus, a few of them were filmed before I was *born*.) Several of these were professionally filmed and leaked, but most others were filmed by others.
Sorry I didn't see your previous answer until now.
Wow you must really like the show. I hope you get to see it soon!
Was it just me, or did Gina Beck get a little off with the music?
Gina Beck plays one of the horniest Christines of all time and its one of the reasons she's one of my very favorites. She totally embraces the sexual side to Christine.
I do have to say that I prefer the movies set and choreography than the plays. It's hard to feel the heat between these two.
I never got why it took her till she felt the mask to know it was him. Didn't she recognize his voice.
Question! In the new UK tour footage, Christine doesn't touch his face anymore, so how does she discover that it's him?
I mean, it's the whole show/story/character that made me a fan, but I have to give him credit too obvs for convincing me
All the tango versions suck
Fecking love Patterson
Japanese ones aren't that bad. I'm impressed.
Can someone tell me why christine suddenly gets scared and tries to run?
She feels the Phantom's mask under the hood and realizes it's him.
why does she run? ALso, can you make one when Christine is trying ot run and the PHantom is puling her? Sorry, for the typos, too lazy to even edit
Glass Prism b-but there are christines who run and some Christines who dont even fight
22:09
??
Wow
Love Robyn North
Does anybody have video of the second earl carpenter and Katie hall vid from the uk tour
You are right, they sound horrible. Serra B. Nicole S. and of course the great Sarrah B. can sing and play this role
I actually wasn’t too sure about Sierra or Sarah in this clip, both have a very strange quality to the voices at times...
Okay...
22:45 why is phantom singing christines part?
Because it is the Las Vegas production, which was shortened to a one act, 90 minute performance. This meant cutting some songs down, including 'Point of No Return'.
@@PrismsofGlass oh… I didn’t know that
2:36 4:36 1:02 :3
22:13 why was it switched around?
That's from the Vegas production. The Vegas production was shortened to a 1-act, 90 minute show, which meant cutting several lines and scenes. One of those scenes was 'Point of No Return'; they cut a lot of the Phantom's and especially Christine's lines, which is why lines are both switched around way, way shorter than in the regular show.
@@PrismsofGlass Oh okay
Oh. She felt the mask?!!!! lol Wow... Her face.... lol
A trillion times thank you for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Ik my comment is kinda irrelevant and creepy....but your profile picture is perfection
