  • This the part 1 of 2 for a series demonstrating the removal and reinstall of the front and rear seatbelts for a BMW 335i F30. The process would be the same for all F30s sedans and similar for coupes.
    The reason for this removal was simply the replacement of the black webbing with red webbing to match the red accents of the sport line. For this I sent my existing seat belt mechanisms to Safety Restore (information below) to remove the black webbing and replace with red.
    Visit Safety resource and tell them Denny from MessyGarage sent you for special pricing.

      Glad it could be helpful. I had to break it out into two parts so hopefully you had a chance to find and watch the other. Thanks for watching.

      @@MessyGarageBMW I am not ahah
      I bought sport seats from a 3 doors F23 to equip my base 5 doors (F20).
      But those seats are lacking the seatbelt hardpoint. So I bolted the seatbelt to the seat rail bolt, but because the iron piece is very strong it need to be in a way that twist the seatbelt.
      So I twisted back the seatbelt behind the plastic wall, so everything is now fine and *safe*

    Great DIY video. Do you know if you can connect the battery without the seatbelts in place? I have to wait 2-3 weeks to get my seatbelts back from Safety Restore as I live in Canada. Keep up the good work.

      Mark Tweedie if you hookup the battery without the front belts in the car you will trigger an airbag light. You will need either an app like Carly or a dealership to reset the light for you. Thanks for watching.. what color belts are you going with? Make sure you checkout the part 2 to see the reinstall.

      Thanks for the info. I will just do without the car until I get them back. I went with the Ferrari red color. I watched part 2 already. Keep up the good work

    hey is that foam stuff actually loose or glued to the metal in the rear deck lid behind the back seats. im doing a similar job and actually need to acess the bare metal under the seats. if i remove that cover to get to the foam am i able to remove that foam as well?????

    • @MessyGarageBMW
      @MessyGarageBMW  4 роки тому

      I believe it was glued. You may be able to remove it carefully and then use a spray adhesive to reattach

    Thanks for the honest DIY vid! Curious can you reconnect the battery with the seatbelts unplugged?

    • @MessyGarageBMW
      @MessyGarageBMW  2 роки тому +1

      Not sure. I think so. It was more of a worry for the airbag deployment. I just left the car sit until the belts came back from the company changing out the webbing.

      @@MessyGarageBMW I can confirm it was aok hooking the battery back up.
      Only issue I had with the removal was unplugging the pretensioner. It actually pulled out of the cartridge rather than the wire harness. Looks like it will plug back in though. Thanks again! Keep it up 👍

    When working on restraining systems disconnect battery an hour prior to start procedures those airbags can kill you and the explosives Inside restraining systems are powerful too

    Those back pillar trim pieces are the scariest part. In the vid at 12:55 your plastic pry bar was levering on the side airbag. :-0

    • @MessyGarageBMW

      I pulled from the bottom first to loosen it and then wiggled the top out. Mine was tight but not overly tight. If yours isn't budging I would look for some screws or bolts but I don't remember anything else being there.

      @@aSASa45454 one of the plastic pins? If so, just pull it out of the metal and see if it will attach back to the trim. If not you may have to buy some from the dealership or Amazon. Those can be a pain in the butt

      It is recommended as you are dealing with the restraint system and don't want to risk an airbag deployment or anything.
