Seeing the international mix. As the FGC has grown over the years, more and more players from countries other than US/Japan have proven they are champions. Now, no pandemic, no restrictions, biggest EVO ever. With SF6 especially, but really with every game, you did a great job specifying how international this EVO will be. EVO is always amazing, another brick will be laid into FGC history, this one will be especially large. Happy for melty, and looking forward to the skullgirls side tournament.

Getting tilted at enemies getting Nat20s in Baldur’s Gate 3 while watching killer matches at EVO on the other monitor is the experience I didn’t know I’d get, but I’m down to experience it.

Waiting for that GODDAMN Under Night 2 reveal after Melty Finals so I can finally see where the story goes after 7 years of waiting.

@@NrettG From my understanding it was for saying "Watermelon lives matter" with a watermelon picture attached during the Floyd burnings. It was stupid, but obviously sarcastic and he really should not have been banned for that. Especially since Ultradavid (who is the figurehead for the the FGC COC and bans like these) has uttered some much worse things about "urban people" back in the old days on SRK that would have resulted in a permaban without parole.

Honestly hoping for MenaRD to take the evo champ title. He represents the generation of fighters that grew up watching and learning these games over the internet. At CEO he even mentioned how these tournaments were something he watched as a child before actually being able to win them. Its more than just characters on screen for me at that point, its a representation of a generation of fighters who have been learning from the oldheads and carrying on a mantle. I think that's sick.

Obama explained the NRS storyline quite eloquently. I've followed the scene for MK11 for the 2.5 years the developers supported it; I came back a year later to find the Chilean Twins dominating EVERYONE. To me it was like they came out of nowhere because they pulled a NinjaKilla and showed up after the game started to decline. The question for MK11 is, can anyone stop the Twins? The answer: No. I'm just being honest. The twins are winning. They're just better.
"But something something something Sonicfox!" First of all, I don't even know if Sonic is playing, but the fact of the matter is despite being an amazing player he still has to focus his attention on a game to win a major tournament, and Sonic has abandoned MK11 for a while. If he's in I'm sure he'll get top 8, but no one is beating the twins in MK11. This story is destined to roll into MK1, where maybe the rest of the world will stand a chance.

I think one of the tournaments I’m most excited for is the VF5 community tournament. Tricky is the shit and I don’t see them losing, but there’s a group of really good dudes from Colorado (KDQ) that could make a run. I’m hooked on watching VF tourneys after watching Beat Tribe this year!

Korean Wrestling Man did a show of force for the Korean Melty scene. But I liked how a little sub plot from EVO JP with Jing and JimmyJ would come back in spectacular fashion. The Melty Top 6 surprised me the most out of the Top 6 storylines. Also who knew that in the last year of Tekken 7 for EVO that the strongest forces would gather once more at the top? Pakistan, Japan, Korea and Atlanta. T R I L L

MK11: Aris gonna call the game "Moron Kombat" all the time and shit talk during Top 6, which will STILL take the longest
MBTL: Neco Arc player gonna upset some big name player
KOF XV: I want Chino Funky to get into Top 6, but I gotta feeling this year gonna be another Mirror Match for Grand Finals and Krohnen gonna win a 3rd Evo
DBFZ: Rollback gonna still get delayed again even after being annoucned a year ago
UMVC3: Marvel Gonna be Hype as hell and I want RayRay to win it all
Tekken: I want 2D to win Evo
Strive:
SF6: I want to see a Rashid Sweep in Top 6 to be an "I told you so" on making DLC characters tournament legal 10 days before a major event
I feel this year is gonna be HUGE, it may even be a problem having so many more people than they expect.

Thanks for doing what you do. Your past evo commentary really opened my eyes to a lot of the non-capcom games, and to the rivalries/communities of those games. Information that’s a bit harder to come by. As for the games themselves, I’m most interested in seeing what high end play for games I don’t follow much is like. Melty, KOF are top of those lists. I’m curious what the years of grinding and exploring in Marvel is going to showcase. I’m always there for gear. As for Street fighter, you bring up a very good point. The game is very mentally taxing, so this is going to be a triathlon rather than a sprint. And while this probably means less of a chance of a ‘lucky run’ crashing the brackets, it does mean we’re going to see massive mental fortitude on display. I’m ok with that. Going Ironman mode might be a different kind of hype, but it’s still hype. It’s going to be a loooong Sunday night. Take care of yourself out there.

For SF6, Big Bird and punk are my two picks for who I think will take it all. I think both of their characters thrive off of the decision fatigue that sf6 provides, as trying to block a Cammy mixup or not take 70% from Marissa on sunday will really test a lot of great players.
Also I'm loving how international fighting games are becoming year after year, good netplay has definitely helped with that and I'm excited for the future of fighting games.
So obama actually predicted the strive and sf6 winners of evo. Obama dropping that gospel.

A little known indie game called Punch Planet was at EVO last year for a side tourney. Sadly they're not going to be there this year, but I hope they'll be back next year and with new characters.

It's weird. In spite of the game not having many opportunities for high level international comp, the finals usually have some good matches. This evo could be the peak of this game!

With how popular UMvC3 is, I wouldn't be surprised if that took the "throw-back" slot every year. I can't imagine any other throwback game being as popular. Not to say there aren't loads of great choices for throwback games though.
I could see SC, KOF13, or Melee taking that spot next year if the rule is "No game in the retro back to back". Although at this point if it's going to stay popular keep it in the slot forever.
