I still get goosebumps when I hear to the backing singers solo and how they melt their voices with Bittman’s at the end. They are the best backing vocals ever in ESC, still so 30 years later.
Mesmerizing; beautiful and tender. Still one of Romania's best songs. What was wrong with the juries in 1994?

Very simple: that year, there were at least 20 of those kind of songs. Not a diverse year at all.
Poland and Hungary were not in English too and came 2nd and 4th

Ce vremuri! Au fost anii mei de studenție, ani în care am descoperit muzica rock și de la noi și de peste hotare.
Mergeam la concerte rock pe stadioane, la Sala Polivalenta etc.
Atunci am devenit fan IRIS, mai ales fan Minculescu.
Astăzi, Bittman, după ce a devenit comercial, împarte valori diferite de ale mele.

@@romulusbuta9318 Exactly. The artistic value of the songs and performers has nothing to do with the ranking. The result is known months in advance and is a purely political decision.
It suffered for being in the middle of the first half, where about ten songs in a row were mid-tempo, serious affairs like this, plus almost all the new countries entered something similar. Although I do think this is on the stronger end for 1994 and a late draw would have helped it.
I absolutely despised this song, though it is climbing my rankings now, in my 10th place. While running order certainly disadvantaged this, I do feel that the songs which were most disadvantaged by the running order were the Netherlands and Slovakia; two good songs which were performed either side of the more memorable song from Germany, hence overshadowing them.
I am still wondering how this masterpiece didn t won the eurovision
