Ignorant comment. The reviewers are required to break it up by You Tube.
Who pissed in your Corn Flakes?
Incredibly rude and unnecessary comment. I absolutely loved this reaction every bit as much as I enjoyed the performance. Wonderful reactor I felt her energy and was very happy to jump on board ❤
be nice, she is just overjoyed.
This was, is and probably will be the best ever interlude show in Eurovision, absolute perfection.
You can tell this for two reasons. First of all every host since 1994 has been trying to outdo it. Secondly they have all failed to even come close.
There was silence in every house across Europe during this performance while we watched this spectacle unfold. A real jaw dropping moment that I will never forget.
To be fair, it was at Eurovision. It’s a very low bar to be better than any of the competitors.
The Irish must be one of the most musically creative nations on earth.
We're the only nation that has a musical instrument, the Irish harp, as our emblem. It's on our passports and all official documents.
I'm Irish and I still get goosebumps watching this.
Me too also lord of the dance
Same! Doesn't matter how many times I see it. Makes me so proud!
Same here!
Ana maith.. me to síne é.
Me too and I am French 😂
Its crazy. Over 30 yrs later this interval act at eurovision has not been beaten. Still goosebumps. That's the advantage of being old....I saw the world premiere live on TV 🎉🎉
There never will be anything like this ever again when the world first was introduced to Riverdance. It still gives me shivers.
Riverdance to me portrays the beauty and resilience of the Irish people. Their journey in the world has not been easy ❤
AND to cap it all, Ireland won the Eurovision Song Contest that year too.........what a night 🎉💚
I believe Ireland are the only nation to win back to back competitions.
Rock and roll kids
Amazing night - i remember watching the show and feeling a bit nervous when it became clear that the interval act was going to be Irish dancing, i was thinking oh no this is so local how will it go down? and then...... oh my god ! blown away and still am!
I had the pleasure of being in the house that night at the Point Depot. Unforgetable!!
I'm a proud Irishman of 63 years and this still gets me right between the eyes, these kids have been learning Irish dancing from they were 3 years of age
🥰🥰
Me too proud to be irish
Still voted as the number 1 in the world interval act from the Eurovision Song Contest. Spectacular Irish dancing. Riverdance troupes still continue to this day to travel globally and amaze their spectators.
I am Irish and am so glad you have enjoyed a tiny piece of our culture
We in the UK and europe were mesmerised! This will never be beaten or forgotten, out of this world talent! All these years later it still makes you jump out of your seat!
Thank you, I'm Irish and you make me proud to be Irish, that is almost 30 years old and us Irish still to this day praise this
😂 at each break in your reaction, I was shouting at the screen “just you WAIT”! I remember watching this live with my mum and dad on television, in an interval in the Eurovision contest. We were transfixed, we’d never seen anything like it before, and we jumped from our seats cheering at the end. I find it emotional and thrilling after nearly 30 years!
I remember watching this live too and I still get emotional watching it. Perfection.
Hi Maggie! Although I had lived in Ireland twice previously (Cork and Dublin), I wasn't anywhere near Europe when this aired on TV. HOWEVER, the stage version was shown on our PBS network (American public television), and its popularity in Arizona (not the most Irish part of this country, for sure) was like no reaction to a theatrical production ever seen in this country. People of every background and skin color were amazed. More than Kerrygold, Aran sweaters, St. Patrick, Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole, Sinead O'Connor, Enya, the Cranberries and U2, Riverdance was the undisputed representative of Ireland and the Irish. Everyone in the US who saw it was in awe and they darn well knew what country it came from! Makes me proud (even though I can't stepdance, don't speak Irish, and my cooking skills could mess up a spud)!
This!!! Watching it on telly, that first time, with my Irish mammy. Magical! I was so proud of my heritage. Jumping out of my seat at the end. Applauding. I still almost cry every time watching this, nearly 30 years later
So did I.
@@timward3116 If you've lived here at any stage then you're an honorary Irish man, I'm born and bred and can't step dance nor do anything extravagant with spuds so you're all good to go there 😂
I've seen this live. The sound that builds when they are all dancing together goes right into your soul
Powerful
Yup- when they come up over the rise en masse. Chills.
So gorgeous. The heart of Ireland can be felt.
I’m English but my great grandfather was born in Dublin, Ireland. Makes me so proud of my heritage 🥰🫶🏻
'An interval show that eclipsed the main event' its so true its phenomenal! Agree with the other irish commenters here it still gives me chills!
Almost 30 years, why do I still get goosebumps! Can anyone tell me, oh ya ii am Irish
Yeah Irish Riverdance is so very very Irish..its 110 % irish culture .. i am from Sweden but i remember that Saturday in mars 1994 .. I remember all my neighbors as get to the work on Monday morning they danzing Riverdance when they walk to the subway ha ha ha ha ha all in sweden love this Irish Riverdance culture ❤️🇸🇪
I live in Ireland. My daughter did Irish dance for 17 years, the dedication and strength you need to get to this level is crazy. When you see this live the steps feel like they are in your heart, thats the only way I can describe it.
Sad to see Gerry Ryan, he was special.
I really miss his radio show
This was one of the most beautiful intermission acts ever at a Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Song Contest was organized by Ireland in Dublin at the time. The traditional Irish dance. This has always stayed with me. Greetings from the Netherlands
Dance, song, and music are the universal language. It's a beautiful thing; no matter where you come from you can always find this language that connects us all.
Wow I Remember the Night it was on TV. It was the Most Spectacular Display of Irish Dancing i have ever seen.👏👏👏👏🇮🇪 And i saw it on Stage in Dublin some Years after .😊
Easily the best Eurovision half-time show ever!
What a fabulous reaction. So glad you enjoyed it.
🥰
Pure talent. Most Irish try to keep their children in this tradition of dance so it doesn't die
I was so sad when I was a child, I wanted to Irish dance so much but I had a really bad memory for remembering stuff on the fly (I still do). I wasn't fast enough at learning the dances so I never got picked for the St. Patrick's day parade or anything. Raging 😂
@@fionamb83That's a pity. As an adult dancer, I just suffer from a lack of self-esteem, which usually means I just suck at competitions, ceili and performances. My teacher has said so many times that I dance so well, but unfortunately it just doesn't come out at the moments it matters. I quit competitions because of it and I usually are just never asked for performances because my teachers knows I don't like it.
I'm probably not the best at remembering things as well, but for over a decade I was the only male in class and I thus didn't really have someone to mirror myself to. But it was 'nice' to see how one of the more advanced girls at some point tried to dance along in a ceili and within the first few steps stopped and stepped out with a total brain-meltdown, the same feeling I experienced when I tried it once: a solo Irish dance is already something, trying to also remember where your partners are ánd remembering the steps is just a bit much for me, paired with the fear that's always there that I will mess up.
@@weeardguy yeah I would say it's very daunting at fleadhs and céilís. Maybe I should try sean nós. At least it's freestyle lol. There's free lessons not too far from me.
@@fionamb83Well, very daunting maybe, but most of the people I know seem to have less trouble keeping their nerves in check when awaiting their turn on the stage ;) It has gotten better over the years, but in the beginning, I would get so nervous 6 hours before I was scheduled to go on stage (and as is so common at feiseanna, they always run late) I could not eat or drink anything anymore.
The amount of times I went completely blank at the moment I had to start nearly surpasses the amount of fingers found on two hands, on about just as many competitions I attended. When the adjudicator managed to find me during a break at one of the competitions and asked 'I wondered if I could have a word...' I knew where it was going. I finished 2 dances (of the 5 or so) that time and thus she saw that I was well able to do them properly, which she said as an encouragement.
But that was the second time that happened to me, an adjudicator coming up to me for a quick word where it was coming from, and that was the moment I decided to 'retire'.
What I really dislike the most is waiting for your turn. There you are, on a stage, just awaiting while all other dancers are doing their thing and all you can do is wait... and try to look at some fixed point somewhere in the hall... I guess this is just what years and years of being bullied do to people, even in maturity.
I most likely could not cope with sean nós ;) I'm too used to the speed and sharpness of Commission dancing (that my teacher holds a grudge against sean nós in general probably doesn't help ;) )
I remember watching this as a teenager in 1994, and being absolutely blown away, as was the whole country! I still get goosebumps.
The song went to number 1 in the charts for weeks, and the show of Riverdance was a sell out all around the world.
Jean Butler started this dance in soft shoes, called Poms. Her style at the start is the traditional style of dancing. Irish American Micheal Flatley then brought a modern twist on the dance. When she rejoined him, she had her hard shoes on then.
I remember doing Irish dancing as a child, and you’d start on Poms before working up to the hard shoes!
Still very very popular here in Ireland, and is deeply rooted in our tradition.
Me too!!
Yep, I still have my poms somewhere, even though I didn't do Irish dancing for longer than a year (broke my ankle badly slipping on ice) big regret that I didn't come back to it but still, couldn't be helped. This stirs my soul in a way I can't explain and brings tears to my eyes even now, 30yrs later. I still remember the feelings and seeing my dad weep with pride and my mammy speechless, which NEVER happened lol. Great memories
It was a amazing performance and michael
..Jean Butler amazing dancers truly 2 of the greatest dancers
Irish history has so much grief. It's good to see them looking happy!
Exactly!
Riverdance was an American dance troop not Irish.
@@georgebarnes8163 that is a complete LIE and you know it. Only one dancer born outside Ireland (flatley) and he was born into a fully Irish American family.
6 of the main troupe are from limerick Dane’s club alone. The rest are from Sligo, Kerry, Dublin cork and Tipperary.
The composers and musicians are all Irish too.
You sad, sad little Englishman. Go back to your tabloid garbage and stop being jealous.
Not our fault you have nothing to equal it in British culture
@@georgebarnes8163 Like there aren't any Irosh in the US, where you're born doesn't change who you are sunshine. BTW American is not a race it's a nationality. The only Americans are the Native Americans and the Meso-Americanos, from Canada to Argentina is Las Americas wuey.
@georgebarnes8163 it is still Irish traditional dancing. Our Irish diaspora have continued to practice it and it is more popular today than ever. What is unique about it is not only the tapping and high kicking but also the fact that they stand very straight with arms by their sides. Check out Irish traditional dances such as hornpipes, reels, 4 hand reels etc , 8 hand reels etc. This dance is a mixture of soft shoe dancing and hornpipe shoe dancing which their steel toe caps produces the tapping sound. Other similar spectacular Irish dancing shows include' Lord of the dance ' which was choreographed and produced by 3M shows
I have a half Irish mother and lots of Irish on my dad's side too, and watching this stirs something in your soul which makes you feel so proud to be a little part of it, even if it's only by blood (I'm English)
Me and my gran used to sit and watch this time and time again when I was a teen, and every time I saw it, it really stirred me up.
Same here my friend. I`m a born and bred Brit too but my Maternal Grandmother was born in Ireland and when I see Irish dancing as good as this or listen to some good Irish music, like you say it stirs something inside. A few years ago, my Sister took me to see Clannad at The Liverpool Philharmonic as a Xmas present. We were right down at the front and it was just Magical, the entire performance was amazing.
I'm irish, and when I saw it, I was in àwe. They made irish dancing sexy ❤
Living in Northern Ireland we have got so used to seeing Irish dancing - lovely to watch your reaching for the first time seeing it
So happy a northern Ireland liked something from the Republic
@@Irish780 There are many that want to be part of the Republic in the north of Ireland. I must assume that Beu isn’t of that persuasion.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it , big hello from rainy Ireland 🇮🇪
I've seen this multiple times and I still tear up at it, proud to be Irish
Loved your reaction to an absolutely wonderful performance. I'm proud to be Irish. ❤
As they dance to the music, you can "see" the river flowing, between, over, around the rocks, picking up speed as it hits a steeper downward slope....
It was an amazing moment for Ireland. 🇮🇪
Saw this the first time it was aired for the Eurovision and it still brings a tear to my eye!
Me too!!
This brought tears to my eyes. So wonderful. I am sure the audience was electrified by the performance
Lovely to hear you Island girl... Keep the videos going with your great humour😂🇮🇪🇮🇪
Girl I feel you. This was my reaction when I saw them for the very first time. How the hell even possible to move their feet that quicky in HARMONY. I fall in love with them from the first moment. I love the music too, it gives such a joy to listen to it.
These dancers are the very best of Ireland they train from children and the energy that it takes to dance for that long is amazing.if every you get a chance to go see it please do its just so much better when you see it live.❤❤🤩🇮🇪🇮🇪
As an Irish person thank you for lovely reaction. I wonder if you have any Irish ancestry yourself as a lot of Irish were sent to the Caribbean by the British government. There are some similarities in our accents. No one mentions the music though. For me it's 50/50 between the music and the dance. So evocative.
I remember the days back, when I watched this performance live (on TV, though). Thank you so much for your reaction, absolutely adorable!
So glad you enjoyed that!!
I'm an Irish-American and it always makes me tear up when I see someone's reaction like this. I also get goose bumps every time I see this type of dance.... I react similarly to bagpipes. ❤
I get goosebumps looking at it I'm Irish and love all our music dance, and just everything Irish ,we only have a small piece of land that's all under treat now ,🙏🏻☘️🇮🇪
Jean Butler and Michael Flatley were the number one best of River Dance lead dancers. The ones that followed were good, but there was a chemistry that grabbed your attention when they were performing.
I agree. Although I understand that Michael Flatley was a bit of a diva, he was absolutely Riverdance and The Lord Of The Dance.
Decades after seeing Riverdance for the first time I still get emotional watching this clip. Your reaction was simply brilliant...you exhibited the pure joy that beautiful traditional music and dance can bring to all of us. 💖💖💖
I enjoyed it, too, though I've seen it more than once, I always enjoy it -- you did notice, didn't you, Island Girl, that they did not move their arms or hands while they danced? -- that's hard to do, yes, amazing! -- thanks for sharing this video.
When I saw them live in Vegas I was amazed, it was breathtaking. I loved your reaction, it made me smile. :)
It blew my mind the 1st time watching this & it continues to do so. Just can't stop grinning, it really just makes you smile.
I hardly ever comment, but this is the best reaction to this video I've seen.
Thank you x
Not long before Jean Butler went on stage her dress ripped but the dressmaker did an amazing job to get her out on time. Michael Flatly is the Guinness World record holder for 35 taps per second. I saw it live a few years ago. Brilliant show.
He was the world record holder ;) As far as I know James Devine has surpassed him at 38 taps per second...
Now play it through again just for yourself without the pauses!
It’s breathtakingly sensational and blew my mind on the night - and it’s just done it again, 30 years later. If you ever see that Riverdance (or one of their other shows such as Lord of the Dance) is coming to perform anywhere near you, bust a gut to go and see it live. God only knows how they keep track of what their legs are doing!! Lovely reaction video. ❤😊
Riverdance never gets old, I look forward to introducing it to my daughter when is is old enough, it's just beautiful and so inspiring.
I never seen this. Awesome. My first exposure to Riverdance was when PBS featured them during one of their fundraisers. I think it was in 1995. I saw a live performance of Lord of the Dance in the late 90s.
I saw them years ago and they were absolutely fantastic! It's even better in person. You've got to go!
Every time I see Riverdance and I was grateful to see their first live tour, my eyes well up, tears flow and my heart swells. The most wonderful dance and music ever.
Loved your reaction, I had forgotten how amazing Riverdance is
What a happy and joyful soul you are. So full of praise and appreciation. Nice to stumble upom such positivity online and see such appreciation, much love from Ireland.
I remember when this came on tv, the Eurovision Song Contest. Can't remember who won, but who cares?? RIVERDANCE are the most incredible dancers in the Universe!!!!! FANTASTIC! And I'm from Ireland too!💝
Ireland won 😂
@@Irish780 This won all the Eurovision ever.
We did!! Rock n roll Kids, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan. ☘️💚🇮🇪
@@ablacknambercat yes they still hold that title.. but soon be broken .... they eurovision has become a joke for a good few years political voting now
@@Irish780 Phew!!!! Thanks, it was a very long time ago & I'm no youngster. I did watch it on tv at the time & LOVED Riverdance SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! xx
Greetings to you, Island Girl, from the "green and misty island" of Ireland. Watching your reaction to this is something special. In less than a year, that performance became a full show which has travelled the world and is still being performed today. Should you wish to see another talented Irish performer, might I suggest you check out Brendan Grace - think you will enjoy his brand of comedy. Look forward to seeing your next reaction. Warm wishes to you and your family. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Hi Island Girl! It was so wonderful getting to see you watch this for the first time! Thank you for sharing that with us. I had the opportunity to see the original Riverdance stage show when it came to Los Angelas back in the 1990's. I will never forget it for as long as I live. How fun it was to see it again.
Lovely reaction and you are so right, pristine and refreshing . If I came back over several lifetimes,I could not master this.
Go Ireland. Celt Nation , since another Celt Nation , greetings.
Step danced 12 years, Riverdance never gets old, even for me!
I love, love your reaction, it brought me back to when I first saw it live on RTE. I still get tears in my eyes when I see it, thank you for your first reaction, we are very proud of Riverdance. 💚
The end part when they all dance together, gives me goosebumps and makes me tear up
I watched it at the time, and I still get goosebumps. When Michael Flatly comes flying onto the stage... Fantastic. You can really see the roots of tap dancing in this. Your reactions are just what 300 million people had at the time!
Every time I watch this I get shivvers & goosebumps like I did 30 yrs ago...
Love watching you enjoy it for the first time 💖
Im so glad you enjoyed that, it was breathtaking in 1994, and still takes my breath away today, i especially enjoy reaction videos from people around the world such as wonderful people like yourself
At one time Michael Flatley had the world record for most dancing taps in a minute
No, it was the most in a second, I believe it was twenty-eight that he managed.
Elegance, grace, delicate yet we see strength, endurance, and percussion. Such an amazing dichotomy! I've wanted to learn this dance all my life, even before I learn of my Irish roots.
I remember watching this live on the tv, it was absolutely spellbinding, magical. I had never seen anything like it in my life, it made me cry with tears of joy! As you say phenomenal, I was so lucky to see their anniversary show last year, it was as magical and enthralling. I loved your reaction, it mirrored mine all those years ago! ❤️🇬🇧❤️
Yes, I saw it too in 94, don't remember who won, only Riverdance! 😂 It's been almost 30 years and still I get goosebumps when the other dancers come on stage... and then finally, all of them in a long row, feet tapping synchronically is so powerful. Seeing the finale of Riverdance always brings tears of joy in my eyes! 😍
Love your Irish accent, especially when you say I'm tellin ya.
Myself an Irishman and an Island boy😅
I was 9yrs old when I watched it live here in Dublin sitting with my parents 30 years ago now and I... with the 300milion that watched it has the same Joy you just shared with us. Great reaction❤ 🇮🇪
I remember it like yesterday, I went on and watched a lot of performances from them, Michael Flatley ones and more often hers actually, because he went on a hubris tantrum, lol. But yes there is much more to discover from this genre. The music is fantastic and the dancing is out of this world. I cry a lot watching things like this. Wonderful reaction, hugs from Sweden.
It became an ever changing magnificent two hour show that still has productions every where on the planet!!! It’s also on DVD. This is based on traditional Irish dancing.
I saw the tour & it was absolutely exhilarating. It was basically the evolution of Irish dance (and it’s cultural meaning) throughout history, as it absorbed influences from the various nations that occupied the land, as well as the new experiences of those that left to go to America. I had goosebumps for the majority of the show. I’m certain there are videos of the original Riverdance production that you can watch in full floating around YT. You wouldn’t regret it😊
Magic seeing it through your eyes! We had the same reaction the first time we experienced it also. The effect is the same so many years later! It is a perfect marriage of music and dance….. Goosebumps still after so many years. Thanks for reminding me 💚☘️☘️☘️💚
I NEVER get tired of seeing this dance. So glad we all got to watch with you.
This was one of our proudest moments to be irish and today I still get the same high
Glad you loved it
Still get chills watching it saw it when it came out that evening ❤from Ireland so proud of our dancers
This was so much fun watching you react the way I felt the first time I saw River Dance.
Thank you so much, I LOVED your bubbly, energetic reaction, it was a pleasure watching you, really enjoyed it , thanks again, love from Ireland xx
She also has such pleasant face full of wonder. Well done!
I love your reactions. It's like: is this happening? is this for real? How amazing is this? Is this even possible? And I love watching your head bob in time with the final section :) Your reactions are what I felt 29 years ago...and still do.
It is certainly - SOMETHING ELSE. A thousand WOWS!!! Great to see again after some 30 years. I was in Ireland right down in the sou'west some 20 years ago and the people (and the coastal scenery) are lovely just so welcoming. Thank you Island girl. Keep 'em a coming.
My grandfather was a proud irishman from Galway still love this such power and control and the sound brilliant ❤ best wishes from australia
Your excitement is contagious girl, I laughed and cried with you 💕
I knew you would enjoy the River dance it's Amazing, and your face was a picture 😂😂😂,glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
I really, really, want you to see the dance battles that happen in the full production now. You'll love it.
I remember that night well A fantastic show that brought tears to my eyes A fantastic exhibition of irish dancing that went on to create fantastic shows that toured every part of the world for many years. They were all a credit to Ireland
Another great reaction from you. You too are a breath of fresh air.
I love your reaction to this!! I don't watch Eurovision - not my cup of tea - BUT, by chance back in 1994 I switched it on by mistake just as this began. The world was blown away by it - no one had seen anything quite so ethereal before - and your unbridled joy as you watched really echoed those original sentiments. Thank you so much for this nostalgic journey! xx
I love River-dance, I am from Dublin, born and brought up the Irish Dancing was always done at school from when I was little, its mesmerising, there are many Gallic dancing studios around the world.
Sooo proud to be Irish, I’ll never forget this it was groundbreaking because before this, the rules in Irish dancing was that your top half could never know what your bottom half was doing- meaning, you were not supposed to move your arms, they were supposed to be straight and ridged beside your body while your legs were absolutely flying it, in this breakthrough performance they moved their arms and it was shocking and fantastic at the same time, a true revolution in Irish dancing and we LOVED IT
No one noticed what he did to this day,he combined Irish dance and Spaniard flamenco into one,his dancing and his wardrobe says it all, brilliant.
Welcome to Irish dance!
I'm a Metalhead and I have watched and rewatched this for years. Talent!!
Indeed. As somebody who listens to pop, rock, opera and classical but still loves a bit of metal, it's the talent that counts.
