It makes me sorry to see that the only one who had any innocence in his love was Quasimodo, and he never had any chance to begin with. While the other two think of her body and how to use her , the only thing Quasimodo wants to do is ''run his fingers through Esmeralda's hair''
Riiight? He is so much like one of those homeless children who are shown a bit of love and then all that they can think about is how to give that love back!
We can clearly see that Quasimodo was the only real one in this. Frollo was a dirty old man obsessed with her. Phoebus was a womanizer who was hanging out with two girls at the same time. But despite being the "monster", Quasimodo truly loved Esmeralda, not only for her body, but for her soul. After all, Esmeralda was the only one who showed him, a spark of light he had ever known before Q.Q

My English translation: [Quasimodo] “Beautiful” It’s a word that seems to have Been invented for her When she dances and reveals her Body to the light like so A bird that opens its wings to take Flight And so I feel the underworld open Under my feet I stole a glance under her Gypsy’s dress How can it still serve me to pray to our Holy Mother? Who is he that would throw the First stone at her That same one does not deserve To be in this world O Satan, permit me just this once To run my fingers through Esmeralda’s hair [Frollo] “Beautiful” Is it the devil that has made a home in her To turn my gaze away from the One true God? Who put in my soul this carnal desire, to prevent me from looking Towards the sky? She carries within her original sin Desiring her, that makes me a Criminal She, who we took for a harlot, a girl of no consequence Seems suddenly to bear the cross Of the human race O Holy Mother, permit me just this Once to open the door to Esmeralda’s Garden [Phoebus] “Beautiful” Despite her big black eyes that Bewitch you Would the young maid still be a Virgin? When her movements provoke in Me a world of wonder Under her underskirt of rainbow Colors My beloved, allow me to be Unfaithful to you Before having you led to the altar Who is he that would turn his gaze away from her, under the threat of being transformed into a pillar of salt? O Fleur-de-Lis, I am not a man of Faith I will go pick the flower of Esmeralda’s love [Quasimodo, Frollo, Phoebus] I stole a glance under her Gypsy’s dress How can it still serve me to pray to our Holy Mother? Who is he that would throw the First stone at her That same one does not deserve To be in this world O Satan, permit me just this once To run my fingers through Esmeralda’s hair Esmeralda

A reminder that in the original book by Hugo: Phoebus is 37 Frollo is 36 Fleur-de-lys is 21 Quasimodo is 19 Esmeralda is 16 Also godDAYUM Frollo's eyebrows are on fleek
I think that this rather detracts than informs. At the time, lusting for a 16 yo wouldn't have felt terribly creepy, but rather natural. A significant age difference wouldn't have seemed as problematic. Context and intent matters. Hugo presumably didn't intend his story to feel like pedophilia, as it would be perceived nowadays if ages are mentioned. To fit modern perceptions while respecting the original intent, I guess that Esmeralda should be 20 and Phoebus and Frollo maybe 30.
How can I still get goosebumps every time the three of them join in the final verse. This is one of the most magnificent musical creations of all time.

This song is the reason I’m SO glad my parents put me in a French school for most of my life
Cette performance est intemporelle et inégalée 😮
I was lucky enough to watch it live.
wait, what?
ne...

È normale che mi vengano i brividi ogni volta? Che pezzo meraviglioso😍
C'est manifique!
This is literally the hunchback of notre dame
This is a theatrical version
I will never get tired of this rendition❤
Belle
Notre Dame De Paris
[Quasimodo]
Belle
À quoi me sert encore de prier Notre-Dame
Quel
À quoi me sert encore de prier Notre-Dame
Quel
I have always preferred Frollo, he reminded me of a very evil version of Heathcliff
Me too, Frollo is my choice...
Even more evil than the actuall Heathcliff?
@@Vertfil2 Absolutely more evil. Spanish Inquisition type of evil. The kind of evil disguising as good.
Their voices sound so perfect...

Cry 😪😍❤😪 so beautifull!! Amazing.
My English translation:
[Quasimodo]
“Beautiful”
It’s a word that seems to have Been invented for her
When she dances and reveals her Body to the light like so
A bird that opens its wings to take Flight
And so I feel the underworld open Under my feet
I stole a glance under her Gypsy’s dress
How can it still serve me to pray to our Holy Mother?
Who is he that would throw the First stone at her
That same one does not deserve To be in this world
O Satan, permit me just this once
To run my fingers through Esmeralda’s hair
[Frollo]
“Beautiful”
Is it the devil that has made a home in her
To turn my gaze away from the One true God?
Who put in my soul this carnal desire, to prevent me from looking Towards the sky?
She carries within her original sin
Desiring her, that makes me a Criminal
She, who we took for a harlot, a girl of no consequence
Seems suddenly to bear the cross Of the human race
O Holy Mother, permit me just this Once to open the door to Esmeralda’s Garden
[Phoebus]
“Beautiful”
Despite her big black eyes that Bewitch you
Would the young maid still be a Virgin?
When her movements provoke in Me a world of wonder
Under her underskirt of rainbow Colors
My beloved, allow me to be Unfaithful to you
Before having you led to the altar
Who is he that would turn his gaze away from her, under the threat of being transformed into a pillar of salt?
O Fleur-de-Lis, I am not a man of Faith
I will go pick the flower of Esmeralda’s love
[Quasimodo, Frollo, Phoebus]
I stole a glance under her Gypsy’s dress
How can it still serve me to pray to our Holy Mother?
Who is he that would throw the First stone at her
That same one does not deserve To be in this world
O Satan, permit me just this once
To run my fingers through Esmeralda’s hair
Esmeralda

Run girl, theyre all looking under your dress 😱
typical girl experience in the middle ages, and even nowadays
lol
She's a teaser, middle age Parisian style
(you'd get it if you were Parisian)
@@bobbiusshadow6985 she was a child!
beau travail de traduction !
la chanson est pas facile a traduire
A reminder that in the original book by Hugo:
Phoebus is 37
Frollo is 36
Fleur-de-lys is 21
Quasimodo is 19
Esmeralda is 16
Also godDAYUM Frollo's eyebrows are on fleek
I think that this rather detracts than informs. At the time, lusting for a 16 yo wouldn't have felt terribly creepy, but rather natural. A significant age difference wouldn't have seemed as problematic. Context and intent matters. Hugo presumably didn't intend his story to feel like pedophilia, as it would be perceived nowadays if ages are mentioned. To fit modern perceptions while respecting the original intent, I guess that Esmeralda should be 20 and Phoebus and Frollo maybe 30.
@@olivierdastein2604 No, I totally didn't mean that in a "that's weird" kinda way, it was more of an fyi. I totally agree with you!
