I am 67 years old and and this hits me in memory lane. It's not an old song, it's a new band, collaboration of Bruno and Anderson but could have been performed by Marvin Gaye or Smokey Robinson. They collaborated on the entire new album, this is the first promo single released. Already charting # 1 ITunes.

Lucky for us God blessed him & given his starting age his craft was truly honed, but when he was on 60 Mintes & showed where he lived OMG to thee. I was born in 58 and saw EWF in concert in 1976. Also saw the O'Jays, Marvin Gaye and a lot more and I'm still listening. Not to sound like an old man, but you young people don't have any singers that can stand up to the 60's and 70's R & B artists.

I am having so much fun listening to this song, and all the reactions to it. As other posters have mentioned, it's an original, although I'm sure a lot of us elders can hear Chi-Lites, Whispers, Jackson 5 and angelic DeBarge harmonies all up in there, lol. I've been thinking a lot recently about the quality of our music from previous generations and how timeless it is; it makes me happy to see a young generation of musicians like Anderson and Bruno really devoted to craft and musicianship and carrying the torch in this duo project "Silk Sonic" bringing soulful, love-filled "mimosa music" to the forefront. Their stage name for this project, btw, was given to them by none other than the legendary Bootsy Collins, who will be appearing on this record, and I can't wait to see what else the youngins ' have in store for us! We need more love music in this world right about now .

I'm now an older G and a musician. I just found this song. I don't listen to a lot of new music, because I don't feel the vibe on a lot of it. It's another generation's vibe. Every generation has one! But there's a few that catch my ear. This is one of them and, this is GOOD! This is what we called that "Oldies" sound. Something that Art Leboe could play! Not a remake. Bruno and Anderson Paak wrote the song and it just came out three weeks ago. They sang it live on the Grammys last week. They just released it for download on 3/31/21. Already #1 on the itunes R&B charts amd #3 on the all genres itunes chart.

Great points about singing & drumming. In some aspects it’s like any other combo except that the drumming has fills at certain points. For instance, I’ve heard this song now hundreds of times, but just noticed when Anderson is singin the lyric, ‘….jumpin its bubblin…’, the rhythm of the words is basic straight 8th notes, but the lick he plays on the drums is more syncopated right at that spot. Definitely another level of relaxed yet focused concentration. Being 63 myself, heard much of J-5 & Temps. I think the Temptations come to mind immediately for most people when they here a sound reminiscent of Motown, but I wouldn’t imagine them doin a song like this. Reminds me of some of the less universally famous groups, like Delphinics (La la la la Means I Love You, which J-5 did sloe cover), Chi-Lites & Stylistics. A huge difference though with Silk Sonic is the subject matter. Back then in ‘70’s, wasn’t no black folk singin about mansion doors & pools, flexin like they also do other songs on the album. The struggle economically was reality. Anyway, nice reaction.👍🏾

The Jackson 5 would not have sung that song like they sing that song. That's a whole different kind of retro vibe from the 70s and I'm taking nothing away from the Jackson 5.
Actually the Jacksons could and did do music exactly like this. As soon as I heard this the first thing that popped into my head was this is some Jackson's late 70s ish. If you don't think the Jacksons could have pulled this off then I suggest you go back for a listen. And for the record, other than Jackie The Jackson 5 for teenagers when they started. You can't compare the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons which is what this music is emulating. The Jacksons didn't have to emulate the 70s they were the 70s and early 80s.

Song is slammin! Dance to it (got to - can't sit still) slow or steppin. My only negative is how close Anderson and Bruno's voices sound, almost as if it's only Bruno singing (since he's got the more famous voice). If they're going to feature two singers, they should be different but complimentary to each other
Honestly Anderson to me has almost a Ralph Tresvant cadence. He is dope.
Disagree w the Anderson/Ralph comparison, but do agree that all 3 singers - Ralph, Anderson, and Bruno - are talented, worth listening to performers. Bruno, for me, is the better entertainer, hands down (or should I say "Pinkie rings up to the moon") with a greater musical range. IF someone sings opposite him they gotta bring it.
