a lot of the plot focuses on them being in high school/minors. if it was in college, nate wouldn't be able to hold jules' photos legally against her, rue probably wouldn't have gone to rehab, and nate's dad with jules as well.

True! It's also an easier setting to get a bigger mix of very different personalities/backgrounds together in a mandatory place, where it makes sense their stories intertwine. I'd assume some of the Euphoria characters would not want to go to college, would not have the means to, or would not last long in college, so it would be harder to create cohesion and diversity in the cast that doesn't look forced and unnatural.
the nudity of these teens is extremely unnecessary tho which makes the whole thing really disturbing. I honestly cannot sit through euphoria so i just watch it through reactions lol

I think some people forget that just because THEIR highschool experience wasn’t like Euphoria, that doesn’t mean nobody’s was. Obviously, highschools can be different. For me personally, my peers started smoking at around age 12-13, and many have already consumed drugs by the time they are Juniors.
Plus, if it were set in college, family dynamics would be more difficult to explore.
I agree 100%. It’s a difficult thing to witness on screen because we want kids to enjoy being kids. But the sad reality is that many get exposed to sex, drugs, etc. at a young age. It’s good to have that shown in TVs and movies instead of a cookie-cutter-perfect high school experience.
Exactly!!! I hate that argument when people say it would’ve been better in college. Meanwhile what popular shows out right now tackle these themes in a college setting? None, and if they do it’s more comical than anything, not dark and mature like Euphoria. Ever since Degrassi, high school shows have always had a raunchyness to them because in general, high school is a raunchy place full of people with many experiences that don’t get talked about enough.

@@deViianceTV that's the issue. NONE of these issues are portrayed in a college setting. It's always a high school one. I think more of these should be shown in college...not high school. High school is a raunchy place, sure. That doesn't mean you portray TEENAGERS who are CHILDREN with explicit nudity and sex scenes. It's very disgusting that adults are playing children while having explicit sex. Grand Army and I hate everything are good at showing that some teenagers have sex without over exploiting it and being explicit. How the hell are teens supposed to relate when most of us cannot even watch the show? It WOULD fit college more in my honest opinion. SOME teenagers do all of this but it is over played in the media as something that is normal. It's not. Infact statistically, less and less teens are having sex. Our grandparents did it more than us. Yet it is so overrepresented in "teen shows".
No srsly, because walking into the bathroom at 8:00 AM ppl were doing all types of shit. A girl in the corner would be doing her hair while another cried and the other did a line of coke 😭, for me this is mostly realistic, except the part where none of them are stressing for college or staying home for homework lol.
I think if Euphoria would be set in college, I'd ask myself how the majority of characters got in

I was talking to my friend about that prediction as well. Kat was getting involved with a lot of stuff she shouldn’t in season 1, those plot lines NEED EXPLORED!!
I hope not. They all should get the the same amount of screen time at this point. Maybe lexi will be the main character by the end of the season, who knows. Lol but srsly I don't want equañ screen time but kat should do more than have sex this season and be a backbiter.

The episode outlining her weight-gain summer on Virgin Pina Coladas was sad. But any empathy she deserves is squashed with every new lie she tells. Her cruelty is nowhere near Maddy's truly unkind heart (save it about damage, neglect, her mother; by this point, it's all on her. Maddy is on another level exclusively; they are all scripting their bleak futures. The men who paid Kat to humiliate and degrade them? She was lacerating HERSELF.That sh*t comes with a very high price tag. By her own words, she hates herself. Snore. She hangs with the Mean Girls who despise imperfection. Why? I don't forsee a Happy Hollywood Ending for many if any.
I feel like rue and jules should not be together at all. They're just so chaotic and a little toxic together. This first episode was intense but my favorite part was fez's back story and his interactions with lexi
I’ve seen parallels with ashtray and Rue being covered with the same blanket and Fez stays up to watch over them. I love it, honestly so cute and sweet!!!

i understand the argument that euphoria should've just been bumped up to a college setting but i really think a lot of people don't realize that just because THEIR high school experience wasn't like this doesn't mean no one else's was. like... i grew up in a pretty shitty area & this isn't all that different from the things going on at my school. in a lot of ways my real life experience (& many others) was worse. trigger warning for overdose on the next part, but a girl legit died in our second period class after doing drugs in the bathroom & that was one of the more tame things that happened over the four years i was there

Yeah, they didn't explore his background enough for us to truly understand his character. From the beginning, he kind of felt like a random token black character to me. They should have made him a high schooler too so it feels less weird that he hangs out with minors.

His backstory was so surface level that it was difficult to really understand him. But I think it wasnt completely weird tho. He is 19 hanging out with Nate and Cassie who are 18 never Maddy, rue, Jules or Kat who are juniors. But it's sad tho. His story could have explored male sexual assault or learning to express his emotions as a man.

I do feel sorry for Cassie. Since her dad left and her mom doesn’t seem to be a great role model. Also, guys constantly sexualize her when all she wants is a good boyfriend. I am annoyed that she messed around with Nate knowing that he was abusive to Maddy in the last season.

There’s also the whole thing of Nate’s dad owning half the town and them being a powerful family in that area… all of that would be written out if it was in college - Rue’s mom and sister would have even smaller roles too..

It works better with them being in a high school setting. It increases the sense of irresponsibility and the tension that comes from the idea of all this stuff going on in a situation/setting that is more inescapable than a college where they can just leave at will. The idea of them being a bunch of mice in a trap, sometimes of their own making and sometimes not, plus the seediness and hopelessness of it being teenagers and children going through this stuff makes it far more unsettling and that works better for the tone of the show.
The reaction is centred around being uncomfortable watching teens go through these experiences but I believe it's also the point of the show to provoke those feelings and reactions.

i kinda agree i don’t know where people get the idea that this show glorifies drug use when rue looks like she’s on the verge of death in every episode 😭 like they got zendaya out here just looking worse and worser + they don’t shy away from the realities of overdoing/self-harm/and the harm her addiction causes everyone around her. rue barely even has any friends because she’s so isolated due to her addiction!! i feel like she’s gonna end up driving jules away for good

Euphoria doesn’t need to be in any different setting the show is so good because every teen that watches the show relates to atleast 1 of the characters because of how real this stuff is for teens and it doesn’t make it “aesthetic” and quirky it makes the issues gross and dirty and disgusting

It is as if the creators of the show go out of their way to make it a point to not have "minority" characters depicted negatively by the plenty.
Instead, the theme is almost a concoction of *_'Beverly Hills 90210'_* mixed with the likes of *_'Kids'_* _(the 1995 movie)_ , *_Less Than Zero_* _(1987)_ , and *_'The Basketball Diaries'_* _(1995)_ content *magnified for a 21st century target market.*
The influence of "urban" _(safe word for certain classes/backgrounds of Blacks and "people of color")_ pop cultural influences on music and speaking styles (accents, slang, dialect) is throughout the show _(Hey there Drake!)_ but instead of two to ten Black characters pushing drugs, having sex, doing drugs, exhibiting so-called "at risk" behaviors, etc...the show addresses such themes without adding images of more "minorities" in a negative spotlight. Instead, _'Euphoria'_ has Tupac's music as Fez drives a _1990's Impala_ (😁!), Biggie's music is at parties, all types of Hip-Hop influenced episode titles (in Season 1).....but with a mostly non-minority cast to show problems that effect _all types_ of youth throughout society ( _"Keepin' it real"_ 🥴🙄). By doing so, the series mixes in modern "urban influences" while reaching a wide target market and also holding the interest of a varied 21st century demographic.
The writer(s) and producers know exactly what they have here, and exactly what they're doing..... 📽 🎬 🎞

The only reason I think Euphoria should be in a college setting is because of the nudity. Hollywood loves the "these are underage characters but here's them nude" thing, and it's disgusting imo, whether the actors are legal or not. It feeds into a lot of p*do stuff in society and in Hollywood. Like why are we seeing these highschoolers nude? It doesn't actually add to the realness of the show, which I know people love to argue. We can allude or have these scenes without the "teen" nudity. That's the only reason I'd like to see it as a college show.

This was my high school experience. So I agree with all of it. :) I was rue.
as someone who was rooting for rules last season, im not sure if im excited abt them getting together again this season. rue and jules both need to work on themselves before getting in a relationship, and so far that's clearly not happened. that's literally the reason why things didnt work out last season and i do not want to see that happen again😭 also i better not see anyone blaming jules and treating her as a villain ive had enough for that. yes she was not good for rue, but rue was not good for her either. a prediction i have is that elliot and rue will become rlly good friends, and thatll make jules jealous bc she doesnt know anything abt this friendship, and ofc rue is not going to tell her the truth which is literally just drugs. and so things between them might become toxic again i fear. (ppl need to stop shipping elliot and rue and acting like this is gonna b some love triangle when rue and jules r literally lesbians btw)
