    2021 UPDATE: This is still relevant for Mythos :) There's not much that has changed outside of these core mechanics, there's just more mechanics layered in which I'll be releasing a guide on!
    Thank you all so much for watching! I'm releasing guides on both the Danaans (Greeks) and Trojans to help you in deciding WHICH campaign you should start!

    Also to note for people, the Spartans in Troy are not the ones that people are somehwat familiar with, they migrated later and setup that specific lifestyle and enslaved the locals, these are the forbearers.

      A group of people coming from north of Greece migrated down and brought about the end of Mycenaean rule of Greece (we think), and the Spartans that most people know settled in Lakonia as part of the migration. The ones here are more of the Lakonian inhabitants at the time.

    Thanks for this, I am hoping to try this game soon.
    However, I noticed something that was either changed or might be wrong regarding the stances. In earlier Total War games "Winded" is less severe than "Tired," so fighting in raiding stance is less punishing than fighting in marching stance. Off the top of my head, the fatigue states go fresh -> active -> winded -> tired -> very tired -> exhausted.

    • @merrylildeath3113
      @merrylildeath3113 4 роки тому

      @edeneini839 4 роки тому

      @@merrylildeath3113 Yeah I picked him first because he was my fav Hero but DAMN it can be a difficult first campaign.
      Expanding isn't too hard if you land at Epirus and continue up the coastline north, but his playstyle is pretty micro intensive. You have a weaker frontline and gotta use skirmish units frequently.
      One thing I found out about all Achean campaigns, once either Paris or Hector confederate Troy and eachother they gain the CRAZY stack usually guarding Troy. It's composed of max rank final tier units that will ruin your day if you're not ready.

    • @merrylildeath3113
      @merrylildeath3113 4 роки тому

      eden eini yeah his playstyle is also the hardest too. You are completely different from all the other campaigns because you are a ambusher. Inorder for you to do good or great you have to ambush and be a good tactician, which is hard to get used to at first, but he’s also pretty strong since he starts out with a spy, and once you start upgrading the spy’s damage capability’s you can reduce a garrisons strength to half in a turn which is nutty as hell

    FYI you misspoke at 11:45 because Winded is not worse than Tired.
    Armies that are attacked in March stance will have Tired troops, which greatly reduced their stats in combat, but armies attacked in raiding stance will be Winded, which stilled reduces their combat stats, but not by as much as Tired.

      Honestly, I think this will be a great one to start with. The premise is simple, the factions straightforward; I started with the Warhammer games and they can be extremely confusing due to all of the complexities of the differing factions. Sparta vs. Troy is easy to get your head around and should let you focus more on learning the systems and enjoying the strategy/combat. • @mattmattmatt131313
      @mattmattmatt131313 4 роки тому +2

      @@TobiFink I think it's mostly cause of the UI. It's constantly throwing pop ups/info expansions at you, the HUD displays lots of information, but it is not immediately/INTUITIVELY understandable what it all means. I mean it's all there and there are explanations for every single thing and what it does, but you have to read up on every single thing and and what it does and where in the HUD you find it. I'm sure it's fine once you get used to it all, but it's not simple start playing, learn the advanced gameplay stuff later, like the older titles were.
      The other thing complicating stuff is the addition of all the "RPG like" elements to the gameplay. It's all the "Unlock the X ability for a +2 buff in melee -3x for stamina for a 3sec duration, but only if the general is in his home province location and it's not winter" crap. I liked it more when my general just gave a kick ass speech before each battle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    OK, now that I have the game, and went through some of the tutorial, there's really a lack of info on just explaining a broader concept of the game. This tutorial is helpful with gameplay mechanics. Like I can click on the timestamp and go to the reference of that mechanic. But there's nothing explaining actually what the hell is going on. And what users are supposed to be trying to accomplish turn after turn.
    Agamemnon campaign is best because it has a tutorial button that can be activated. Going along with the tutorial, I'm able to learn and practice a few important gameplay concepts. But still overwhelmed, and have no sense of direction of what most of it is. Especially, what I actually want overall, and how to go about it from a broader perspective. As in not explaining each gameplay detail. But just a general understanding that keeps users wanting to do more. Rather than leaving them not knowing what to do.

    • @merrylildeath3113
      @merrylildeath3113 4 роки тому +1

      Best way to learn is to just play a few campaigns by yourself. A few things you will need those are these: Early game try to expand and take out weak factions first. If you run into a faction with. A military alliance do not attack it unless you also have military allies since 9/10 you will lose the battle and likely lose the game. Tip #2: there are different stances next to your hero. You can use those stances to ambush, raid, march(speed) and 1-2 others. The stances are very good and I highly recommend that you use them. Tip #3: do not be afraid to go in the red for a little while. Most of the time it can be earned back by sacking, trade deals, and upgrading buildings. for any battle tips/ more in depth tip search up a diff guide. These are just for general good play and having more of a chance to win.

      In the "broad" sense of what you want to accomplish by the "end" of the game, you should look at the objectives button on the upper part of the radar map down the right. Look at Homeric Victory as that is "easier" to achieve. That will tell you what you want to work towards to, it will tell you which settlements you need to own and which factions you need to eliminate or other things you need to do specific to each faction. Now, how you go about doing that or how long does it take; it's completely up to you.
      Also for the most part, you can follow the "missions" the game gives you and the advisor will guide you towards a specific region or way of playing. Of course do look at this guide and the ones on the factions to learn how they play and which one you may like more

      Depends on how you want to play. I went with Zeus since he helps with diplomacy, and I want to try to make as many vassals as possible through diplomacy and gives nice buffs to units. If you want buffs to units, go with Ares or Athena. Hera is useful if you want to make capturing walled settlements easier and construct buildings quicker. Apollo if you are focusing on agents or use a lot of range. Poseidon would be useful when you want to sail to Troy. Finally, Aphrodite if you're going to build up your cities a little quicker. If you're still struggling to chose to check the Divine will tab and hover over each one and you can see what you get. The cult traits you always get as long as you have enough favour. The prayer buffs you get access to only when you do a prayer (which has a 4 turn cooldown and you can only do one at a time). You can always focus on multiple but you find it harder to max their favour and reach Worshipped. Hope this helps.

    • @italianspartacus
      @italianspartacus  4 роки тому +3

      Yes! It's just like Three Kingdoms (since I know you've played that ;)) the enemy and the enemy agents all have a passive chance to detect an ambush before they make contact with it, revealing your character to them. This happens with every step they make right up to the actual ambush itself. I BELIEVE that the ambush success chance, unless modified by other items or skills, is the value the AI checks against when moving up to the ambush point. Also! Thank you very much for watching brother :)

      I think if you try to go into ambush stance when there is an army or agent in line of sight of your amusing army, then it will fail. I believe this is true for the Warhammer games but not 100% certain for Troy. I'm assuming they didn't alter this behaviour. I could be wrong though.

    Really trying to find some enjoyment in this game and hoping these tutorials help. I've played all of the historical Total Wars since Rome 2 but my main complaint for Troy is the UI. I understand that its the "old" more traditional UI but its so sterile to me that it's so incredibly confusing to me. I honestly loved the improvements they made in TK and am so confused why they would go from a clean and stylized UI that was straightforward back to this.
    I have started an Ajax campaign but the UI is honestly what keeps frustrating me on this among other just gameplay things which aren't my general preference. Still debating on whethee or not I should just jump into Warhammer but I know the UI is identical so idk if the magical stuff is enough of an incentive.
    I really appreciate the videos and I hope they can convince me to stick through this. I just want to take a break from China without going back into the older catalogue.

    • @ScottiMac0007
      @ScottiMac0007 4 роки тому

      Don’t be afraid to replace buildings as the game goes on. Sometimes you add defensive buildings for extra garrison but later that’s in the middle of your territory and now safe, replace it for something else. Or your happiness is 100 and you no longer need a vineyard.

    • @casper191985
      @casper191985 4 роки тому

      Scott yeah I got a system now to max out yield and happiness. I build priams garden and vine yard for happiness and royal court for influence. Then I just build the first building in the resource town chain and the building that gives 20% to all resources.
      I only build the -70%growth building if I don’t have the capital city and no way to speed up growth.

    • @casper191985
      @casper191985 4 роки тому

      But if I have a large capital city that’s vulnerable to enemy raids I also build Trojan wall to buff up the garrison. I just wish there was a more efficient way to buff up the garrison in the resource towns. The only thing that effects the garrison is leveling up the main tier building and even with that maxed out I still loose the battle with half to full enemy stacks. Then they just sack the town and all my maxed out buildings go back to single tier. It really makes it hard to show any significant gain in those towns when they keep getting reset to tier one.

    • @casper191985
      @casper191985 4 роки тому

      The only way to prevent that is practically have an army per resource town. And I can’t afford that. So that’s a little game breaking. They need to buff up the resource garrisons or add a building that buffs it up a bit I think. What are your thoughts?
