The theme of this whole damn show has been "It wasn't truly Catra's fault, she troubled, please forgive her, it's really ADORA's fault for having principles and being a good person!"
@@lastunicorn846 i adora was also abused and is a people please person and likes to do good. She doesn't like to handle her emotions in her words "punch emotions away". Adora has all the rights in the world to leave a abusive enviroment as the horde and she even invited catra a million times but catra declined. That is just life your best friends forever want to do other things and you gonna have your own path if you want something they don't. Catra never told adora she wanted to be force captain so in adora mind she didn't steal anything. Catra never told adora the horde is evil.
Noelle and company COULD have used this episode to build on Catra's "redemption" arc, maybe admit she was always in the wrong and start working on her anger and abandonment issues, and learning how to be a team player. Instead, they WASTE IT ENTIRELY trying to be funny by creating Princess Prom 2.0 with better designs. You don't have TIME for FILLER in the middle of the FINAL SEASON!
You know, this isn’t a cable show, it’s not something you find on tv, it’s a web series that dumps its whole season. Because of that, it doesn’t have to deal with a weekly time schedule, nor does it have to pace itself so any comic or manga can catch up. So the fact that it has filler makes me really confused
@@Groomsman 4 technical season in under two years. Animation errors and off models that would Steven Universe blush Controversy and split fandoms and a showrunner with alot of mental helath issues during production. This series was kind of a mistake.
@@fandude666 , and the many continuity errors too. This show constantly said and did things that contradicted itself. I believe that they forgot stuff constantly. Maybe they didn't think the audience wouldn't notice or that they didn't care about continuity.
See, kids, this is what happens when you write GAY characters, rather than characters who are gay. Their sexuality ends up being their whole character. Spinerella and Netossa have nothing to them other than the fact they're together, and in fact, Netossa (for me) only got remotely interesting when she was forced to be without her wife. Other than that, yeah, this episode was mostly pointless. The side characters go on a mission to inform She-Ra and crew of something they already know! The only thing they accomplished was losing Mermista and Scorpia, two of their best fighters, so it's a net loss for the rebellion. Just have Spinerella chip them in the camp if the narrative requires them to lose them, but don't make them act idiotic in the middle of an invasion for the sake of poorly written comedy. Anyways, great review, hope to see M soon, take care!
@@chrisp.9385 We aren't but currently gay characters are the most guilty and creators use the gay card to deflect criticism. Poorly done straight couples still get criticized all the time.
@@chrisp.9385 it's not, but it's a very common problem with LGBT characters in general due to people not knowing how to write them beyond their romantic relationships. It's a common advice because falling into this pit trap is so insidious with LGBT side characters. Even Stevenson, who is LGBT herself, made these characters devoid of any personality traits except for "they're together" for 4 and a half seasons (Netossa gets some traits in the back half of this season, Spinerella does not).
Clearly, the show wanted to focus on the Princesses of Power part instead of the She-Ra part. Despite not really explaining what a princess is. Or what a runestone is. Or why the elemental princesses aren't the traditional western (water, earth, fire, and air) or eastern (water, wood, fire, earth, and metal) elements. *Or why Glimmer's element is light despite the fact that she gets her powers from the moonstone.*
This is Steve Universe all over again. That show never explained how did the Gem race became to be, or why the DA were programed the way they were as examples of bad writing
I googled it, and the Moonstone apparently IS a real Gemstone. And so are black Garnets. Maybe it isn't meant to be literal? Although in the original She-Ra, Brightmoons Moonstone was getting its Power from Etherians Moons.
Fluttering, who was previously a servant in the castle, almost a slave, sacrificed herself to save She-Ra from a trap, and was saved by the Light Hope. Swen, who was originally Sea Hawk's best friend and second-in-command. (when Sea Hawk had a ship, not a pleasure boat, and crew and when Sea Hawk wasn't a psychopathic pyromaniac) Princess Peekablue. All these characters and their backgrounds were replaced by a bdsm bondage lizard thing - a vile unscrupulous mercenary.
OG Seahawk was a good character, but he was male, and Noelle's fragile ego can't handle that, heck, she would flip if she saw Issei, from Highschool DxD (Dragon of Dragons), the show is an ecchi (has eroticism in It), Issei is a pervert, but the story is good (Issei dies in episode one, victim of a conspiracy from a world he didn't even know existed, he gets resurrected, but still...) Heck, she would flip if she saw Naofumi Iwatani (Shield Hero) in action, despite the anime butchering the Light Novels in it's second half.
Even the orginal concept of DT was robbed. They were Glimmer's cousin and acted as a chief spy for the Rebellion while being hated by the rest of Etheria.
@@CoolG97 They could have let the Lizard-Elve take on Double Troubles original Form as a Nod to Fans of the old Show, but as we all know, Noelle didn't like the old She-Ra. At least I never heard Fans of the Reboot talk positively about it.

To be fair, it is only the male peafowl that are blue and have the big, colorful tails (hence why they're called peacocks), but I doubt the writers actually thought about that and just did it for brownie points. Also, for the love of all that is intelligent, why are we still going to parties?! How are they not all dead yet? And thanks J for the continuing reminder that Catra has not really made up for everything. Kinda like her new hair, though. Also, with Seahawk and Mermista, can we please stop treating pyromania as a joke. It's a serious problem that needs to be addressed. They don't need Peekablue, they need a psychiatrist. Also Double Trouble has no reason to be here other than to remind us they exist, despite me trying to forget them. When I eventually get to my Season 4 Rewrite fanfic, I'm writing them out completely and replacing them with my own original character I've thought up that'll actually serve the story. Great video, and I'll pray M gets better. Stay safe, you two.
@@harlannguyen4048 In my rewrite, I threw DT out and replaced their Episodes with Stories about Admiral Scurvy's Transformation into a Cyborg and his Revenge against Seahawk. Adora got Catra and Hordak Glimmer got Shadow Weaver And Seahawk now got Scurvy as a Rival.
in an interview, noelle stevenson actually did mention that the male peacock feather thing was a part of the inspiration for peekablue's updated character
Why is there filler in this 13 episode series? Also once again, lack of communication is the princess alliance undoing because if adora had simply sent a message to Seahawk and co then they wouldn't need to go on this stupid undercover mission
This is why it's difficult....you have to have somebody who cares enough about the old show to not alienate that group, but also have enough guts to take risks and alter the way things are in interesting ways. It is tough. But, that being said, you also have to be honest about what works and what doesn't. This doesn't.
Someone said the exact same thing on Crimson's review on this episode. But that is a good question. They're assholes without much redeeming qualities. Mermista is just a one dimensional bitch.
Hey, I have a question does Catra even know that glimmer’s mom is trapped because Catra never mentions it, and neither does glimmer. Like not in the fight in season 4, or the connection being made while they where on horde prime’s ship. This has really bothered me.
Planetary invasion, potential world destruction, millions of lives in danger. The stakes in this show have never been lower. Hopefully M is getting better.
I cringed when I saw the thumbnail. I felt happiness and relief that your sister is at least doing well. I felt nothing as the episode was described, like a void inside me was threatening to collapse my body into itself. I stared blankly at the screen, my gaze hollow and sinking into an abyss of darkness, the light from my eyes dimming. My body could not move. I couldn't feel even a fraction of a sensation crawling over the pores of my skin as I heard every detail. I sank deep. Deeper. Existence is but a fleeting moment as my consciousness gradually left my body. I then felt happiness and relief again upon your closing remarks.
You can imagine my disappointment over them bringing in another classic character and totally botching it up. 1st of all there's nothing special about the new design, it's just a human dude with radically different skin and hair color. That's the cheapest go-to for new alien looks. 2nd the closest thing to a peacock this jerk had was that tacky coat, like you said the OG Peekablue had a peacock tail that granted her the far sight power. 3rd and this is a biggie, IT WASN'T EVEN THE ACTUAL GUY!!! Once again I let myself get my hopes up for a new version of a classic character just for the elf lizard to stomp them out with their high heels.

Does DT have the power of super speed or something? Cause when they exit the stage as Peekablue, the curtain is closed for approximately .2 seconds before Swen comes out. How did they transform that fast? That's the least of the show's problems, but it still bamboozles me.
Ugh, I can't stand the utter failure of this show on all levels. Perfuma has a nice dress. In no way makes up for having such a terible design for peekablye, bringing in DT only makes it worse. No humor whatsoever, I didn't laugh once rhroughout the entire series. Almost over...

J Tanner, you are a Genius! 😊❤️ I thought that Peekablues Farsight was limited to Etheria, because they were stuck in another Dimension and could only see the whole Universe once they returned to normal Space, but your Idea is actually a thousand Times better! I wondered why PB wouldn't help the Alliance out with her amazing Abilities and why Angella never contacted her, but if Peekablue could always see the complete Universe, even from Despondos....that would make her a Cassandra! Just like how the Rulers of Dryl have this Reputation as crazy Scientists who only care about their Experiments, the Princesses would see Peekablue as an insane Prophet-Queen. Nobody would trust the Things that she sees. "Peekablue is crazy! There IS no such Thing as "Stars" or Life on other Planets! There is no Horde-Empire! And what in the Name of the First Ones is a "He-Man"?!?" Maybe Peekablue herself would even start to doubt her own Visions and lock herself in her Palace, convinced that there really IS something wrong with her. But, hey, we're gonna focus on Sea Hawk and Mermista being a running joke. (and totally missing out on the fact that Scorpia's lightning attack shorted out the chips of everyone in that room . . .) I am very disappointed with this use of Peekablue. I don't mind the gender-swap (Although he probably has one of the more feminine figures in the show.) but the design is lacking as it could've been more showy (It's a peacock for crying out loud,) which could contrast with his recluse nature. My real problem is they have a great opportunity and wasted it. In the original series Peekablue episode was focused on her being controlled and forced to reveal the location of the Rebellion to the Horde. (With the ending moral being: Don't let people give you drugs.) Right now they have an invading force using mind control and instead of having a mind controled Peekablue being used to locate everyone, we have a mostly offscreen conquest going on while our "heroes" goof off and make things worse. (I once again recommend Dark Crystal for a better use of mind control. I am the Ascendancy.) P.S. Hope M feels better. Edit-I'm pretty sure the reason Peekablue is so downplayed because the writers gave Horde Prime an "All seeing" motif so it's kinda clunky introducing another character with that same motif.

It's a pity that "set your boat on fire" was never used as an innuendo for sex on Seahawk's part, especially in this episode considering just how sexy Mermista looks in that jazzy getup. If Mermista had the last name of Portman a good backup would be, "I'd like to put my ship in Mermista's port, man." It could be because you explained the absolute plot and I didn't see it, but looking at these images makes it seem like a really good episode. The plot even sounded interesting. And I was actually excited hearing about how they tried to get away from the horde. But my guess is actually watching it feels different than hearing the breakdown. I noticed this in a lot of your she-ra videos. When you guys break it down, it makes the whole show sound really really cool. But then you guys mention that it's usually buffetted by a lot of filler and non sequential humor/cis. It's a shame, this show has a lot of potential. I couldn't finish it. But its nice to hear about it. Thanks for the vids like this.
That's really the Problem. If you told me the Story of the Reboot (Alien Warlord stuck in a Prison-Dimension, Princesses with Magi-Tech Powers, a vanished Race of great Inventors...) it sounds really cool! The Problem is the Execution. Mostly the Humor and the Shipping.
Good grief! This episode makes me think that NOBODY on the staff understood how to structure stories even on a basic level. You don't undermine the rising tension of the situation with poorly executed jokes! You don't cram all the important stuff into the last few minutes of the episode! And don't even get me started on Peekablue. WHAT. A. WASTE. (Also, why gender-bend the character like that IF SHE'S NOT EVEN GOING TO BE A REAL CHARACTER?! That's TWO characters from the original show that DT has been! TWO!!! One was bad enough! I'm just... I'm really losing my patience with this series. As a writer who cares about the craftsmanship of storytelling, this show is PAINFUL to watch. Further, the fact that it gets so much praise is infuriating. I don't care what sort of agendas it promotes, I don't care how much "representation" it has, IT'S OBJECTIVELY SLAPDASH AND HACKNEYED. LGBT people should be FURIOUS that this show is being held up as representative of them! It's an INSULT to them!
Hope you feel better soon M. As for the actual episode I'm a bit confused. (Shocking I know.) Does Adora not have a sword when she's not She-Ra anymore? Because I thought Shadow Weaver said her power came from the runestone in it's hilt, so where does it come from now? I'm sure this is part of the 'She-Ra existed before the First Ones and the First Ones somehow took control of the She-Ra cycle' thing that they never explain, but still. Also, it's kind of annoying that they're recycling the 'Adora can't transform' thing from Season 1 and they didn't handle it well either time. My headcanon is that Peek-A-Blue was limited to just Etheria while they were in the pocket dimension, but even then you'd think recruiting him would have been a priority for the Rebellion for the intel gathering potential alone. Did DT actually tell the group any new information? They already knew Prime was chipping people and tat he had a fleet in orbit. Plus, when DT was undercover wouldn't the other clones have noticed that they weren't in the hive mind? I have to admit I liked seeing the girls in alternate outfits, even if Scorpia's was reused. I don't think this episode was worth it just for that though. I don't mind Scorpfuma. I kind of makes sense since Perfuma was the most willing to trust Scorpia after she defected. Although personally I'm rather partial to Bowfuma, so... Finally, to paraphrase Two Best Friends Play: Don't you know lightning can do anything because this setting is bs and doesn't make any sense?
Adora's base form never got a new outfit. Also, why did DT go under cover, I don't think anybody would care since, everybody is a criminal at the place they are at right? So they just wanted to use another name drop of a character just to subvert expectations or it was an attempt at a "twist".
@@RollingDodge Poor Adora, forever doomed to be repping the Horde due to lazy character designers. Maybe since DT is an infiltrator they don't have the name recognition to pull off a meeting like that. Cuz, ya know, the best spy is the one no one's ever heard of and all that. Although now I'm wondering what was even the purpose of this meeting. I'm also wondering why a bunch of criminals would attend an event hosted by a head of state. Like is Peek-A-Blue's kingdom the Etherian equivalent of Colombia or something? Also, you'd think the Etherian criminal element would be looking to join the Rebellion since they're as screwed as anyone else if Prime wins. The more black and white elements of the Rebellion, like Bow, might not like it but that'd actually be a good source of character confict and thus character development. I wish Adora would of just let Catra go. Also I thought of something what is the point of DT having a secret identity in rebellion, nobody knows who you are? Nobody ever seen you. It would be different if they all grew up together, but DT was a stranger, kinda of a wasted opportunity to have kept DT powers and secret id. They could of hidden that DT was non binary but then they wouldn't of been able to virtue signal. I say that they could of been hid that DT's non binary cuz it would of been too easy of a hint, too.
Hope M is alright and if the both of you need to take off, don't feel bad in doing so. Your health is way more important than this crappy show. And per the norm, everything and everyone in this episode is obnoxious. Yeah....yeah, I can see why Mattle rushed in to clean the slate from this shit. Also take into consideration that the chips are pretty big and on a very obvious placement on the neck. I don't see how NO ONE, let alone Net, would have never been able to notice the chip on her 'wife's' neck which only makes our 'heroes' look dumber than ever.
I don't even understand why did changed Swens Gender. It kinda makes Sense with Peekablue, because male Peacocks are the ones who have the pretty Feathers. But what reason did they have for genderbending Swen? Swen isn't even a unisex Name! That's like naming your Daughter Adam!
0:40 I didn't know til recently, but apparently in this show, being in a relationship is shown by each person wearing a personal item from the other. For instance Spinnerella and Netossa necklaces... The crystal Entrapta gave Hordak... and the new transformation She-Ra's headpiece is technically from Catra...
Best wishes to M for her health to return. Y'know..... the depressing thing is that this kind of "infiltration" idea had some potential merit. After seeing how DT's infiltration against them proved effective, the princess pals - er whatever they're calling themselves for marketing - could've started trying to infiltrate other areas to recruit allies, undermine the Horde or gather intelligence. It would've been a wonderful way to actually have them run into Scorpia and get her into the group instead of her just "wandering into a meeting". Infiltration could've combined antics, world building and plot pushing all at the same time. What a sad waste of another decent concept.
Oh god I just relized This Show got an ending yet Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged quite possibly will never have an ending despite being far far wittier! (Praying that LK is okay) At least they remembered Double Trouble and Spinerella's relationship.
Agreed...this show is so bad at explaining things. From what I read about it there is a good story. But so poorly executed. Apparently Glimmer and Catra are supposed to be parallels to each other. Catra activated the portal and killed Glimmer's mom. Glimmer activated the heart and killed Light Hope. Do you think this show needed to be a she-ra IP? Based on what M/J keep saying it really seems like they could of just changed all the character's names and they wouldn't have needed the IP. Would have been cheaper to make an original IP no?
Actually that why a lot of OG MOTU franchise fans were upset. This show could and should of never existed or been it's own thing. Both the show and bias parts of the media loved and praised the series just to make OG fans angry.
The theme of this whole damn show has been "It wasn't truly Catra's fault, she troubled, please forgive her, it's really ADORA's fault for having principles and being a good person!"
@@lastunicorn846 thank you for illustrating Catra's deranged POV. Alas, that's not the truth of the matter.

A show with 52 episodes that's has an arc shouldn't be having this many filler episodes to begin with
You know, this isn’t a cable show, it’s not something you find on tv, it’s a web series that dumps its whole season. Because of that, it doesn’t have to deal with a weekly time schedule, nor does it have to pace itself so any comic or manga can catch up. So the fact that it has filler makes me really confused

Let's not pretend that only gay characters exist just to be together
I really love this “quote” at the beginning. Good rule of thumb for any relationship, sexuality, character....

I hope your sister is doing great. Besides judging from all the filler she's not missing much. Minus most of the cast getting chipped
And the fact the princess of power are terrible leaders and heroines
Maybe we are meant to see it as "the light of the Moon"?
But.....the Moon itself doesn't produce any Light.
Johannes Seyfried I assumed they were real gemstones (I have seen Steven Universe after all lol) but what the mean in universe is confusing
Fluttering, who was previously a servant in the castle, almost a slave, sacrificed herself to save She-Ra from a trap, and was saved by the Light Hope.
Swen, who was originally Sea Hawk's best friend and second-in-command. (when Sea Hawk had a ship, not a pleasure boat, and crew and when Sea Hawk wasn't a psychopathic pyromaniac)
Princess Peekablue.

What I find perplexing is if Horde Prime can just mind-control chip the masses without any problems, why does he need to destroy planets?
Somehow I'm not surprised there's just more filler. It's almost like didn't know what they were doing.
We're rushing towards the Series Climax. The Bad Guy is systematically taking over turning everyone into computer-chip mind controlled zombies.
But, hey, we're gonna focus on Sea Hawk and Mermista being a running joke.
(and totally missing out on the fact that Scorpia's lightning attack shorted out the chips of everyone in that room . . .)
There is actually, kinda, a potential story underneath the surface of this show, but they keep dragging it off screen so they can tell some lame joke instead, or randomly ship a couple of the characters.
So Horde Prime not only can't tell where Adora's ship is despite one of the Horde's ON THEIR SHIP, he also can't tell that DT is acting as one of his literal MANY EYES. They really did not give a fuck about writing their villain.
Also I wish M the best!
I am very disappointed with this use of Peekablue.
I am the Ascendancy.)
P.S. Hope M feels better.
Edit-I'm pretty sure the reason Peekablue is so downplayed because the writers gave Horde Prime an "All seeing" motif so it's kinda clunky introducing another character with that same motif.
Then why even introduce Peekablue at all?
@@johannesseyfried7933 Lazy Reference and filler? Such a waste for an interesting character...oh who am I kidding the whole series is a waste of characters.
One question that was never addressed is how do people get chipped do a chipped person touch the back of someone neck and it just appears. do they hold a child to plant in their neck if so where do they get it and how did spinnerella get so many. How did they chipping even start

That abridged cutaway, that was perfect.

Also agree: get well soon, M!
It's funny because it would have been easier to write a trans coded Peekablue if they just stayed with the original design/gender. Since only male peacocks have those feathers and colors.
This is basically Steven Universe with it's stupid fillers, except far worse. Seriously, guys. The world is about to end. Maybe take things seriously? But, fuck it. The shows creators don't even know what consistency is and aperantly lesbians like Catra can get away with flat out murder. God this show drives me nuts.
Atleast when Steven Universe has a filler episode it was on the middle of a peacefull time ,She-ra on the other hand...THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE END OF THE WORLD!!WHY BOTHER TO GO TO A PARTY WHEN THE WORLD WAS ABOUT TO END?!?!
seahawk has a arson fetish...........hmmm....quirky freaky fetishes! this show has everything!!

Hope M gets better. This episode doesn't do much honestly. As for Catra the show wants me to believe everything is allright but it is not.
Keeping M in my prayers, and good job holding the fort J!
See what you don't get about Catra is that she's our true main character so everything she has done was for the greater good. Naw but for real I hope Dreamworks finds better writers and producers for future remake projects.
Edit: Surpirsed you didn't bring up Scorpia's toned back
What is it about Seahawk that makes him so smackable?
Maybe it's because he's an incompetent loser who whines alot and can't seem to shut the fuck up? Also why does he love Mermista when she clearly doesn't give a shit about him or anything for that matter?
He's Varrick from Legend Of Korra, but useless and nowhere near as charming.
@@jeangentry6656 He seemed more like Coran from Voltron, but none of his charm, brains, or humor.....really he's the chinese knock off.
@@maldon3659 Also his terrible singing, which made me surprised that he was voiced by Jordan Fisher.
@@jeangentry6656 Varrick wasn't just quirky and funny, he was also very intelligent and competent.

And that's what makes him such a brilliant Character.
You guys should watch Glitch Techs. That series is a billion times better than SRINIO (She-Ra In Name and Image Only). Glitch Techs has better representation of minorities (a Hispanic guy and an Asian American girl are the main characters), stories are well written, world building is done carefully--basically, Glitch Techs, as an animated series, is near perfection. Definitely recommend it. It should be a breath of fresh air for you guys after dealing with SRINIO for so long
It's a pity that "set your boat on fire" was never used as an innuendo for sex on Seahawk's part, especially in this episode considering just how sexy Mermista looks in that jazzy getup. If Mermista had the last name of Portman a good backup would be, "I'd like to put my ship in Mermista's port, man." You know you're doing something wrong when thoughts of sex are more entertaining to the viewer than the actual episode the viewer is watching.
"You know that I would be untrue,
you know that I would be a lair,
if I were to say to you,
girl we can't get any higher,
c'mon baby let me set your boat on fire, set the night on FIIIIRE! Yeah!" - "Light My Fire" by The Doors, as sung by Seahawk, lol 😛
Based on the fanfic I think that's the main appeal
It could be because you explained the absolute plot and I didn't see it, but looking at these images makes it seem like a really good episode.
Feel better M! Thank You to J for continuing on! :-)
What's the point of filler if you can't make a good one?
Filler can be good if used well, it can be a good break between arcs or a way to see how characters act when the stakes are low.
I think everyone this show "represents" deserves better, even the horse.
@@fandude666 Yeah, where is the representation of magical Horses?
Oh, right. My little Pony. 😆😉

Like if guys like Admiral Scurvy and Seahawk had to get over their previous animosity and learn to work together for a common cause.
@@shineyorkboy wasted too much potential on jokes and parties. Also, it was random too. You know what's suck She-Ra never battled Hordak or HP, all they did was exocrise HP and that was it. Plus inconsistency power gauging on characters sometimes they were OP or they were weak for no legit consistent reason. I wished that Adora would stop be guilty when Catra left her.
I hope M feels better soon.
Even Billy (Grim Adventures) had smart moments.
I hope M gets well soon
They made Peekablue a guy?!! I'm done! It would've made more sense to make her more like Indian, but gender-bending Peekablue AND Swen? Wth
Hope M is feeling better! Thanks for reviewing this episode, even if it was a total bummer like always!
My is not getting a break from youtube shes taking a break from she ra
What is the point of gender bending them at this point? Actually.. what is the point? Ship ship ship. Where's the heroism?
Especially when it just turns out that it was DT 🙄
So where did Scorpia get her dress from the princess prom?
Obviously the same place where Catra's clothing came from on the ship.
Well, distilled water does not conduct electricity well, unlike salt-saturated seawater.
