  • If you follow us on Facebook you may have been wondering what happened to the MK7 GTD we had in for several weeks for a GTD2872VRK Turbo Kit, CP3 Fuel Pump, Ported Head and more...
    Well, it is now finished and back in Ireland after making a peak power of 286bhp & 380ft/lbs.
    Before the 'is that all..' comments, we know this isn't as much as we were hoping from these modifications but, the restrictions around these engines meant that we could not push this any further.
    If you're curious as to why, this video is worth a watch...

    This engine is also in the A4 B8 late model facelift (190HP CNHA) and due to it being longitudinal mounted with the DPF crap on the left side and not the back of the engine, EGTs are much more managable, probably due to airflow. I am running 220Hp stable with temps up to 850°C

      LFX v6 in my 5th gen camaro sounds a lot like this. 3.6l, exhaust manifolds build in to the heads direct injection, want performance cams 700-1200$ each for 4 of them hardly a notice able difference from people who have them made in AU, the exhaust dump pipes only 1 each side of the head and there a weird oval/square shape so cant run a full 3 inch, x pipe is your only gain all performance is internally built in to the motor from factory, and supercharger kits that run well in to 8-15 grand un less i want to dump serious cash in to a v6 camaro all i can do is body kits suspension and lights oh and if you dont run a catch can your engine will get carbon build up on the intake valve that grenades the motor after the motor starts to burn a quart of oil every 1000miles. its one of those so much potential but the engineer was told half way that its going to make up mostly rental car sales. im part of the 10% of sales that said ooohhhhh it comes in manual. should of got the TDI jetta SportWagon it was sitting next to some of the stuff i look up worries me a lot about my cars future of just driving for the 3.6 there just so bad.

But you lads have definitely got me thinking of FINALLY changing to something newer...... I just wish I knew about you 10 years ago when I bought this! Well done, wish yall had a shope here in America. Quick question as well, if I switch from the cp4 to the cp3 will it have any effect on fuel efficiency? Thanks keep up the good work!

  • @TheRealAnthony_real
    @TheRealAnthony_real 5 років тому

    @ryanP If the egt is the limit (I presume you measure this before the turbine wheel ) have you considered bigger nozzles ? I know the cp3 will deliver the pressure however more pressure is more resistance to flow ... Perhaps bigger nozzles and less duration would improve the torque mid range and the flow on higher rpm reduce the boost slightly to wash the cylinders and cool them down ? 16:1 ? I remember when I turned my Audi 2.0 PD the bigger nozzles made huge difference .. took me forever to write the SOI maps and durations but when I got there you could really feel the difference and yes it was a 2262vklr pushing everything ...
    With this being said I can't believe you can't fix my vklr and I have to do it myself ...

    • @ryanp6138
      @ryanp6138 5 років тому +1

      Always measure pre turbo. Bigger injectors are on the mod list but not quite required yet while rail pressure is dropping. If we can't get quality parts we can't repair a turbo! I hate the GTBxxxxVKLR hybrids.

    • @TheRealAnthony_real
      @TheRealAnthony_real 5 років тому

      @@ryanp6138 just got myself a vklr chra ordered from Germany for 300 and I'll have to modify the lever again add a stop screw etc. etc. However I don't get to have free time for this anymore due to work.
      I'm just thinking that higher durations will add to bigger EGT's so perhaps bigger nozzles will alow you to reduce durations and inject the same or more mm3 in less time keeping the fuel cooler hence reducing egt ? Not sure though how much of a difference would be ...
      Sometimes as you said adding a 2260 and little mods for a reliable 250 will be better than pouring loads of money for an extra 50 bhp ..
      This was the case with all 1.9 2.0 engines if I remember well no matter what platform .

  • @jamesmccullough3716

    Hi Darkside! I know these engines have variable valve timing on the intake cam. Is this used by yourselves in anyway to gain power? I know as standard it only seems to operate under light loads or at idle when engine is warm presumably for emissions on the CUNA engine as the 150bhp variants don’t appear to have it. Great work with the videos!

    Just curious is there much difference between the mk7 2.0 tdi (150) and the GTD engines, is the non GTD tdi just as tuneable ?

      @@ryanp6138 would you say the older 140/170 are better for reliability and tuning?

    Rod bearing wear? Is this common? Is the gtd engine same as the US spec mk7 tdi engine?

      I doubt it's common but this car had a terrible tune. Engines are similar

    With EGT’s being the limiting factor- have you gone down the road of water injection?
    I know that water injection will lower EGT’s on larger diesels- I don’t see why it wouldn’t for this application, though I’m not sure how much it would drop the temps and if it would have a decent ROI.

      Yes this car actually came back in at a later date for water injection. It helped EGT's and saw a little more power from it.
