They've managed to emulsify sounds from each continent, without being derivative. I doubt I'll ever get over how much butter the Khruangbin sound is.

I first discovered them last year when I heard a really chill and 60's retro sounding music track from a Corona commercial. It fit the vibe of the commercial perfectly, sleepy, hot summer days at the beach. I sussed it out and it turns out it was Khruangbin and the song was "The Number 4". I've liked them ever since. Their sound is very unique but somehow very familiar at the same time. Fantastic musicians.
The tone and melody of that damn guitar at 7:15 is about make me cry. Its soo beautiful. It sounds like live love relax and laugh expressed beautifully.
I listened to “a calf born in winter” for the first time while waiting for a plane and man.....I was already far and away from everything. I was floating away from earth.
"I try to not play the roots, because she plays the root all the time" That's something my teachers from music school always told me. This guys knows what's up. pro musicians
The root is the note that gives its name and the tonality of the chord. Ex: the note A is the root of A minor chord, or A major chord, etc. It applies the same with scale, i believe it’s called the tonic (but i’m not sure if it’s named like that in english). The tonic of A minor pentatonic is the note A.
so by that Mark tries not to sound redondant and previsible. Playing other notes around the roots create more tensions and it’s more interesting for the listener.
Yesterday, a friend introduced me to Khruangbing and I listened to their music all day long and went to bed with their tunes. Best start into this new year ever. I needed these vibes so badly. Healing energy.
Not a guitar driven band but it does seem to be a very integral part, bringing tones and styles and voicings I haven’t heard or not used to. Very cool!
I love how Khruangbin integrates music from the world. Being from Ethiopia, I immediately felt a familiarity with their style when I first listend to Khruangin, as if it was made by an African. Mark Speer really plays the guitar like a Kirar sometimes.
What a sound! I discovered them only last week, bought all the CD's I could find in my city. And then there's my crush on Laura Lee... (I'm trying to canalize it by learning her lines on my own bass.) Hope they come soon to Europe!

I love all three. Each is an artist and a collective woven tapestry
The drummer actually has an expression. My life is now complete.
After a first listen, I felt a reassuring calm. There are so many flashy-first groups nowadays, it’s refreshing to hear something so minimal yet so spacious. Love it!
Game changer. I don't play an instrument but it's fascinating both to hear more about their influences and that they record live in the studio, no multi-tracks. Khruangbin are one of the bands I'm mostly looking forward to seeing live again.
Khruangbin is the illest shit. Wonderful to hear them break down their sound and influences ...
They make such beautiful music and that's the only adjective you could come up with?
@@Abrahamhamham You came up with beautiful. Genius Abraham! Gold star for you! On a serious note this is the youtube comment section, he's not writing prose man.
@@Abrahamhamham “ill” is a higher compliment than the stale adjective “beautiful”. Or was your last comment not satire? Bless your little heart
@@DefenestrateYourself When you're on mdma, "ill" is not really a word you vibe with while listening to this kind of music. Idk, that's just how i felt then.
My new favorite band. Listening them play gives me hope for the day. Listening to their influences gives me hope for the world. Houston...Who knew?
Great music love their minimalist trippy style. Good to play on a warm summer night.
Does Mark have an understated flair about him or is it just me? I sense humble and massively talented. I like the chemistry Johnson, Lee and Speer bring.
Laura is quite simply the best thing. Ever.
These kids are the future and I love them all.
By far the most lovable band ever.
Thank you to the Universe that this trio met and meshed. Dope af!
What world we live in. This was great, all top class musicians. Totally fresh sound, but made up of varied old skool influences. Bravo 🙌
I've loved this band for years and years. I love their sound deeply, but even more, love their story and relationship with each other and with music from all over the world. They've managed to emulsify sounds from each continent, without being derivative.
I doubt I'll ever get over how much butter the Khruangbin sound is.
❤
My favorite band for a while now, such a great refreshing sound.
‘Friday Morning’ was the jump off for me w/ this band. Backlogged. Been hooked ever since!
I've struggled to find contemporary acts that I enjoy listening to as much as artists from the 60's-90's but these guys are the real deal!!!! Excited to see what they'll make in the future.
Well everyone on here has beat me to the compliment but REVERB puhleeeeeeeze.....make this your new interview format from now on. This was one of my fave bands from 2018 and this upload is perfect for the New Year. The Bass playing......Guitar tone.......that crispy drummer.....I never tire of heaping praise on this trio!!
Thanks to these 3 brave souls who once again show if you "dig in" there is still genius & new things to found in basic trio and simple instruments
This band plays some gorgeous music. To be able to express yourself like that, fuck I’m jealous
All 3 of them are cute and confident as well
Good lord, where do you even begin? They are incredible on all levels.
Love these quiet recordings, really let’s that bass shine
The tone and melody of that damn guitar at 7:15 is about make me cry. Its soo beautiful. It sounds like live love relax and laugh expressed beautifully.
I listened to “a calf born in winter” for the first time while waiting for a plane and man.....I was already far and away from everything. I was floating away from earth.
Just discovered this group a couple of months ago. Such a chill sound.
What an amazing group of musicians. The west African and Asian influences add a welcome innovation and flavor to their material. Bravo!
Selam Seyoum is a national treasure. Thank you guys, keep up the good vibe and music coming. Respect.
Just saw them in concert last night. Easily one of the best musical / concert experiences of my life.
"I try to not play the roots, because she plays the root all the time" That's something my teachers from music school always told me. This guys knows what's up. pro musicians
What does root mean in music ?
The root is the note that gives its name and the tonality of the chord.
Ex: the note A is the root of A minor chord, or A major chord, etc.
It applies the same with scale, i believe it’s called the tonic (but i’m not sure if it’s named like that in english). The tonic of A minor pentatonic is the note A.
so by that Mark tries not to sound redondant and previsible. Playing other notes around the roots create more tensions and it’s more interesting for the listener.
It's her Dub reggae bass that I love, his chilled drums ...so good. Marks vocal guitar. Never use singers, keep it all untethered ✌️
This bass tone is absolutely wild.
Two Fish and an Elephant if the song that made me fall in love with Khruangbin. So glad they played it and elaborated on it.
Thanks! I did not know the name!!!
what a sick guitar player. So talented and inspired
Yesterday, a friend introduced me to Khruangbing and I listened to their music all day long and went to bed with their tunes. Best start into this new year ever. I needed these vibes so badly. Healing energy.
I am glad the Guitarist is neither British or a Bassist, or he would be indistinguishable from Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap.
He is also a bassist
Everybody on here should go to your channel and check out your videos. Love your work! @agentXPQ
He wrote this
They both wear wigs at every performance!
@@coltonweatherston3308 he said this in an interview 😂
Getting hooked on this group. The drummer is locked in. Gotta love em.
Will bring their albums to my grave. What a band. Soul musicl of the Universe.
In love with this band since 2011🕺❤
Favorite new band...and the guitarist is playing a 70S big headstock natural strat like my fav guitarists Ritchie Blackmore
Love to hear Mark talk about his influences. So open to everything he finds beautiful and interesting.
Them playing August 10 is what drew me in to them. Godspeed and continued success.
Speer definitely makes her sing without a doubt. Master of his trade.
Pure music in it's richest form...it hits the soul in peace, no need for analysis
What a sound! I discovered them only last week, bought all the CD's I could find in my city. And then there's my crush on Laura Lee... (I'm trying to canalize it by learning her lines on my own bass.) Hope they come soon to Europe!
