PREPPIN' FANNY FOR ADVENTURE... and a cheeky little park up! Vanlife UK
This week we finally get out in our self built campervan together! We find a lovely little spot in kent where we park our van for the night and enjoy, once again, the feeling of wild camping amongst nature.
We also spend some time getting the van ready for our next set of travels, mainly boring jobs such as a bit of van maitenence, cleaning our fresh water tank and water/waste system and a couple of van repairs.
No doubt we will be confined to the UK to start with but we hope we can find some stunning and unexpected places tp travel, as we attempt to avoid the crowds!
oh, and of course, it wouldn't be a camper vibe vlog these days if there wasn't a bit of a vanlife problem!!
As always, thaks so much for watching.
Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we travel across Europe as two female travelers.
Hit the subscribe button to see where our little tiny home on wheels takes us next and how we cope living in a van!

Small flat bladed screwdriver under the metal clip at the end of the gas struts, lift it up, which releases the clip from the ball, and the strut pops off. Takes 20 seconds to swap one over. Hope that helps!

The Gas Struts have a Spring clip that locks it to the Ball, just lift it up with a screwdriver and it will come off easy! The Glowplug fault will cause starting problems from cold especially, possibly misfire until that Cylinder gets as hot as the others! The other faults sound like 'Fly by night' faults here today gone tomorrow! Not to worry about until a 'Hard' 'Active' Fault! The Dingly Dangly is great weldone!! You can use a can of Coolant leak stopper or Rad Weld etc to stop small leaks. Even an Egg put in the cooling system can cure one! Ready made Breakfast!! :-)

I'm no mechanic, but you should get yourselves a diagnostics code reader thingy. They are cheap as chips, but I would suggest paying a bit extra for a decent one. I got an icarsoft OBDII (£100) and it has been a godsend. I've only used it on my own car once in about 3 years and it saved me a fortune. A simple fault, like a sensor, could be fixed for (in my case) £20. Why pay £80 just for them to tell you the problem, then charge you on top of that to fix it? Most things are not as complicated as they would like you to think 👍

Great to see you back on the road. Don't worry the engine just replace the glo plug before it fails. You can buy a fault code reader for around £25 and check or clear your own fault codes. You could do that I'm sure. Stay safe. Paul and jilly ❤❤❤❤

  • @charliegould5865

    That baby mobile is brilliant.
The glow plug should only affect the engine starting, but it should be ok with three glow plugs. My old Fiat Ducati it down to only two working glow plugs at one stage, it was ok unless the weather was really cold then it had to be coaxed into life. When I was at the front of a ferry and had to be off first to clear the exit door there were a few worried faces as I cranked it over and over till it started. It was cranking for quite a time though!
The temporary faults on the temp sensor and the air sensor might have been fixed with a wiggle on their connections, that’s what fixed my mass airflow sensor fault.
Just go for it, enjoy yourselves and look after AJ

Nice to see you are out (kinda) on the road. Thanks for the sweet & sour recipe, will def try it. Next time you replace gas strut, the silver band on each end is a wide “c” clip or spring that should either slide off or snap off (use a small screw driver to pry it off). That releases the ball attached to the cabinet from the socket on the end of the strut. Then just slide or snap the clip back on after putting the new strut on. Last, I’m no diesel expert but my bet is the glow plug fault is the culprit. Likely will result in hard starts when damp or cool. My advice is, if you can afford it replace it before too long. Awesome mobile!

Glow plugs no big deal. Until it gets really cold, then just turn the ignition on twice before starting. You can get a can of spray to clean the air flow sensor for less than a tenner. Plenty of youtube vids to help you. x

    Wonderful footage. Stunning editing.
The glow plug is a really simple job you can do yourself. One + electrical connection and unbolt it. (you may need to remove some covers to actually get at it). Mass air sensor may be a contamination issue. They are very sensitive to oil or contaminates and it could be that when the air intake was removed/rebuilt something as little as a sticky finger touched the sensor. Air temp sensor. Most common fault is poor connection electrically. Clean connections with an emery board nail file (fine) reconnect with a little dielectric grease/silicone grease to protect the connection. Honest you could do this! Hope this helps. Drive safe. Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

Loving the Videos, hope you don't mind me commenting about the replacement of the cupboard struts. On the back of the sockets you will notice that there is a metal band, if you lever this band up it releases a clip which is clamping the ball, making it easier to remove. Hope this helps..
On the Error codes, I'm not mechanic, I just fixed my own cars (Petrol) for the last 30 years and would hope that I can pass on my experience.
P0671 Cylinder 1 Glow plug, Will only affect cold starting. Wont harm your engine just make it harder to start (if all 4 of your Glow plugs were done, then it would be very difficult to start on a cold morning)
P0110 Sorry dont know that one
P0100 Mass air Flow (MAF) measures the temperature of air coming in to your engine (in the pipe from your Air Box). Usually just needs a clean as the very fine (delicate Wire) gets dirty.

As a mechanic id drive it. the fault code for glow plug will be fine until it want to do a dpf regen if fitted. The air flow/temp sensor you can change yourself its only 2 screws and about £80 +vat. Glow plug need the inlet manifold removed to replace if my old memory serves me right. Again doable by your self's if competent enough. But it could also be a hole in the turbo boost pipe flagging up air sensor that best found with a smoke pressure tester

Good to see you can start to move around, it’s amazing with all the technology built in cars today how many indicator lights can appear on the bloody dash, do we really need them I don’t think we do, I think they are just designed to cost money to get them diagnosed. Tyre pressure sensors amaze me I always check the tyres when I fill up. Stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Heya, Doing well, love the video/music montage, what a piece of luck getting the owl shot. The glow plug fault will only come back if its faulty after a cold start, if you have to change it, leave penetrating oil around it for a couple of days and change it when the engine is warm as it will be easier to remove. The gas strut is pop off BUT, the clips at either end require a flat ended screwdriver underneath the rounded bit of the clip and lift it half way out, then the gas shock will come off, I did giggle a little bit watching you try to force it, before covering my eyes thinking ahhh she is going to break the cupboard :D

    I like the owl best.
You should buy your own fault code reader. They're under £20 - can't do everything a garage one can but they're good. Don't buy the Bluetooth ones: they're trouble.
Going to the main dealer isn't a good way to get things fixed. Find a local garage with skilled, experienced mechanics. My guesses: the faulty glowplug may just be a bad connection in the wiring, or a dodgy relay, or it may be a glowplug. The MAF sensor may just have stuck with being parked up and will free with use, but if it needs replacing, it'll let you know in a non-damaging way.
I forget what the other fault was, but I rememer it wasn't one to worry over.

I have a 2010 Citroen Relay and the engine light intermittently lights up - at my mot the garage said it’s related to emissions and the EGR valve could be occasionally sticking. I don’t notice any difference in performance so at some point I’ll get it sorted but for now it’s one of the van’s quirks 🤷🏻‍♀️

Snack cupboard sabotage 🤣🤣🤣 Get glow plug sorted at your leisure if she starts ok, on my sprinter they are sometimes used to assist a DPF regeneration but you would likely be in limp mode if a regen. was the issue. The other 2 temporary faults are ok to monitor as no harm will be caused by them. Don't know if it's the same with fanny but on Sprinters an amber light is non critical but can lead to limp mode if it's anything to do with emissions ! Red lights shouldn't be ignored though 😐 That mobile looks amazing 👍👍👍
