The watch in the thumbnail (and briefly shown in the video) is the Orient SER2M003W0. I'm in the process of shooting the review for it, and if all goes well it'll be released next week. It's an Orient Dress watch with a cool textured dial, a sapphire crystal, a really high quality solid link bracelet with a milled clasp. It's one that I haven't seen for sale outside of Japan, and is an older discounted model, but occasionally you can find some sellers that have them in stock, including eBay.
@@the_9ent Since it's discontinued, the price fluctuates a lot depending on where stock pops up. I managed to snag it on Japanese Amazon for $100, but it's since sold out everywhere, and when it does pop up it's usually around $250. Right now Amazon Japan has the two tone version for $100 though.
Perlon is the best strap ever. Lightest, breathes the best, drys very fast, is almost infinitely adjustable on the fly, and is just as secure as a nato if one springbar fails.
I've spent £100's on nato straps over the years after getting a poor quality perlon when I first got into watches... But got a good quality perlon recently and now much prefer them to Natos. Much much nicer. Cheers Dave, stay healthy everyone 👍🏻👍🏻
You can have good quality perlon NATO too. Material: Braided Perlon ( European-import ) www.clockworksynergy.com/shop/nato-straps/perlon-nato/dak-grey-perlon-nato-watch-strap/
Work perfectly on a divers as they dry faster.... Finding a good quality one not easy though especially one with enough length to fit over a wetsuit. Only strap my dad ever had on his watches I have only recently bothered with them and now realise why he favoured them.
You've changed my opinion here. I''m open to trying these again now. I've had a few perlons but they were cheap ones from amazon and the material was itchy, so i never wore it, these really look better though.
Try removing the buckle and keeper and washing the straps a few times in your washing machine. Use cold water. They get softer, up to a point. Keep an eye on the welded end to make sure you spot any loose threads. You can melt them solid again with a short blitz from a gas lighter.
Perlon is actually the name of the material (a special type of nylon) and not the strap type although it's commonly used as such. I think most perlon straps are made of regular nylon and not actual perlon but a German company Eulit makes them by using "real" perlon. I have a couple of their straps and they are great and I pretty much agree with your opinions about perlon being better than nato. The only downside is that you can get just a few basic colours. That's probably the reason for the popularity of nato straps over perlon. You can't have for example a Bond style perlon strap or any other variations with stripes. There are multi-colour perlons available but only with a zig-zag pattern which might be too much for many.
Didn't take the time to read all the comments but you were ahead of me this is such a rookie mistake. Comparing a material to a watch band style. Like saying "leather is better than a NATO" ... Jeez.. and looking at the style these are basically ZULU bands made out of perlon... Thank you for pointing it out too. 🤦♂️ but then you make the same mistake. Perlon is better than NATO? NATO is not a material... It's like saying "Aluminum is better than Art Deco"...
@@HVG67 Although perlon is originally just the name of the material it nowadays basically means the type of strap in question so that's why I used it in my comment. As far as I know there isn't any other specific term to describe the strap type so I couldn't use one. The style is more like RAF strap with a nylon keeper than zulu which would have rounded metal keepers. So it's something like "perlon style nylon single-pass RAF type strap with a ladder-shaped buckle" which isn't especially practical term to use.
First time buying a perlon, and the difference between it and a nato is night and day! It conforms much easier the added thickness is perfect if you want your watch to protrude a bit, but its side profile is not that obvious. super breathable and custom fit.
the downside with perlon is that because is so light and thin, it doesn't act as any sort of counterbalance to the mass of the watch so you have to wear it tight. the upside is that perlons are your friend if you have odd lug sizes 17, 19, 21 etc. the other thing is that people complaining about natos don't realize they can buy a single layer version, or mod it themselves in less than a minute with a knife and a lighter.
You said it… Like a NATO but more elegant...I have a couple and they work mostly on a dress or dressier watch...Also a great alternative to a rubber strap on a diver… Thanks for the cool review!
Nato straps are better for getting a really long strap to wear over, say, a jacket or glove. Perlons are better for wearing the watch at exactly the right tightness. I have a dozen natos, and two cheap itchy perlons, and I almost always wear a perlon. Maybe it's time to get me a nice one!
I think perlon straps are really nice in the summer as an option to go out. Maybe with a button up and some shorts. I’m not a huge fan of nato straps personally but think they look cool!
My concern about any "nato" style straps, and also the Perlon straps: 1) They scratch display casebacks over time 2) They only CAUSE the springbar failures by the way they mount the watch - when the strap gets stuck somewhere and the body movement is PULLING it, the extra way around the watch case will be shortened and the springbars will be popped out / bent / broken.
I just received my steel-blue perlon from Strapville today to put on my white-dial Heimdallr SKX homage. Shipping was real quick, just 3 days from Sweden to the Netherlands. Loving it so far, it wears really nice. The buckle looks a bit flimsy indeed but I think it'll be fine & if not I can always do a slight modification so I can put a more conventional watch-strap buckle on it. Thanks again for the review and discount-code!
They exist decades ago and even then the older ones told that too was the cheap strap that put light and last ages there good and so re inventing all again
I know I'm in the minority here... But I've always prefered perlon straps to natos. I just don't like the bulk natos add, both underneath the watch and in excess strap at the side that you have to tuck in. Great comparison video Dave.
Sigh... Perlon is a material. NATO is a style of watch band.. you're saying you prefer the material over style of band. This style of band is a ZULU. And the material happens to be perlon.. now just FYI they make ZULU bands with the same material of NATO straps. So if your beef is with the style because of the bulk, then try a ZULU. Saying you prefer perlon over a NATO, Is like saying "I prefer Aluminum over Art Deco"... 🤦♂️

I bought a Perlon strap for Orient Mako for a more custom fit vs NATO with predetermined holes. I found the Perlon was way to light to hold a diver style watch...just didn't feel right. Find the thickest if you are going to try one.
Yea, gotta say i dont know how perlon an a gentleman go hand an hand. I can wear a stainless bracelet an your wearing a perlon an i can be more of a gentleman while you are a donkey"s ass.
Having no holes for the buckle pin means you'll wear the strap out. I remember these as being used to keep the locker key on the body when we went to a public pool for swimming in school ... these straps turn into a horrible fringy mess in a very short time.
I've had one. for years and can say two things about them: (1) the buckle pin does not wear the strap out and (2) it does not turn into a horrible fringy mess in a short period of time. Go with the Eulit brand for best quality.

Thanks for this review! I’ve been noticing these straps available for purchase, but I’ve been curious about the feel and function of them. I’m going to be giving them a try.
I can understand why everyone's pushing perlon. Looking at the quality of the buckle, the weight of nylon per strap and the fact that you can skip the hole punching, extra hardwear attachment and other processing means these can be made for absolute peanuts compared to even a nato. Probably leave the factory at less than 5 cents.
I live in Florida and find that perlon or shark mesh are about the only things that work for me in the summer. Also can't stand how tall the two layers of a nato make my watch.
Perlon straps are more suitable for smaller dressier watch or any watch that's small & simple. If you can buy a thicker Perlon that would go well with bigger watches like a divers.
I 100% disagree with this position. This opinion comes straight from the mind of a person whom has not worn this material for more than a minute. IT FRAYS AND FALLS APART, BRO. First, the buckle holes fray. So, as a 'fix', some manufacturers uses a leather bit to reinforce the construction around the holes - totally undesirable solution. Secondly, despite being a synthetic material, it stretches over time since the weave is not tight, to begin with. What every owner is left with is a limp bit of fabric that was once in the shape of a strap.
The one in the thumbnail with the white dial is the Orient SER2M003W0. Check out the pinned comment I made for more details about it. I'll be releasing a review hopefully in a week.
I don't like the woven carpet look. I prefer NATO for the tight weave and extra hardware (buckles) that give it a more sporty but elegant look. Interesting video though
It's comparing apples to oranges. G10 NATO straps are military surplus and functional in the field or in the water on the wrist or above the sleeve. The original Marine Nationale straps (not the modern spin offs) have the same funcionality and also had a military purpose. Perlon straps originated as Beatnik fashion straps and don't have or need to have the same durabilty as surplus straps. Great for a night out or desk diving, but not for real diving.
Mostly I'm talking about Perlons being superior when it comes to dress watches. I far prefer a Perlon to the NATO dress watch trend that's popular now. But other than that NATO is definitely more durable and secure, but Perlon dries faster and is more adjustable, so there's trade-offs. But different straps for different situations.
Just the Watch Yes, you're right: different straps for different purposes. It wasn't to critisize the video, but just an explanation of the formation of the different straps. Keep the good work up! You're doing fine.
It is nice talk. But personally I have bad experience with perlon of almost loosing my watch twice. Pins tend to go out easily this way and the watch is getting loose. Comfortable, looking good but not safe. No more perlon for me.

Although Perlon straps do look nice I don't think they are my style as they are too thin for me and doesn't look right on my wrist. I guess some of us prefer some depth or substance to the strap! :D Not sure maybe it is just looks too tight on your wrist shots but it just doesn't seem right for me.
I think I had them on a bit tight in the video, felt fine at the time but I wasn't paying much attention since I only had them on for a couple minutes to film.

Does anyone know a good place to buy 2 piece perlon straps? I like perlon straps, but I dont want the strap to go under the case. I tried clockwork synergy, but their 2 piece perlons are about 3cm shorter than they say.
I agree with the pros you mentioned on the perlons.... however I have yet to see a nice, decent quality perlon strap for say about $10~20. I once used a perlon, it was stiff and mats used was rough that it added loads of stretches on the case back of my speedy....
I imagine there's no cutting and burning with these. With a Nato, or single pass Zulu, you can burn it like paracord. Don't they just COMPLETELY relax when on wrist, like.... slack? I'd think the fit would be undisciplined. think I'd be overtitghtening with it.
I guess it's up to you on the buckle, I like it in the middle, just like I would wear a normal two peice strap. Can't remember which song the intro was here, I get all of them from UA-cam's audio library.
Yay, you have the Cadisen I've been considering for a while now! It's the one with the white dial, 6 o 'clock date window and the blue second hand. Have you done a review on it already? I really like it but wish it would be 40mm instead of 42. Never tried a perlon myself, curious to try one though. I'll have a look to see if I can find a EU supplier. edit: just checked the link for the straps and saw they're actually from Sweden, sweet! Also saw you featured the Cadisen in your ten best minimalist watches vid so watching that now. Cheers!
I really like it. Except that it's 42mm with 21mm lugs. It would have been the deal of the century if they would have released it in 40mm with 20mm lugs. Even still I've been able to squeeze a lot of 22mm straps on, and absolutely love it paired with that blue Perlon. I alos have a slightly larger wrist (7.5 inch) so the 42mm doesn't bother me too much. I love the 6 oclock date, the textured dial and blue second hand are also pretty cool for the price. I haven't released a full review, but if you check out the April Watch of the Month Club video, I showed it off a bit there. Full review hopefully coming in June.
@@JusttheWatch Thanks for the reply! I just watched that other video where you showed it a bit but will look forward for the full review as well. Yeah, at 7.5 it probably isn't a problem. I have to make due with a skinny 6 incher so I have to be a bit more selective. I do wear 42mm watches though, and I got the yellow CasioOak this week and feel it wears fine. But for a dressier watch it might be a bit much. But it's a beaut for sure so I don't want to write it off just yet. As for the lug-width, it is a bit of a silly size, but I'm willing to deal with that. All the best from the Netherlands.

I am looking for a 2 piece perlon (canvas or soft cotton fabric preferable if there are any), since I have a smartwatch (Samsung). What makers and models would you (or anyone else) recommends?
I've ordered a lot from CNS. I love their variety and low prices, they're awesome for trying out new looks. But basically every single strap that I've gotten from them has struck me as being low quality, and as soon as I find one I like, I immediately go looking for a nicer version of the same strap. Does any one know what orient is in the introduction, the one with the white dial?
Would like a stretchy perlon
Hi, do you know when the watch will be available again? (EU)
It is nice talk. But personally I have bad experience with perlon of almost loosing my watch twice. Pins tend to go out easily this way and the watch is getting loose. Comfortable, looking good but not safe. No more perlon for me.
What is that Orient watch in the thumbnail with that blue perlon strap?

Eulit makes a two-piece option
I would get these if it had actual holes.I get that these arent meant to have them but my attention will always be on the buckle being slightly off.
My attention is always drawn to the perfect fit :)
2:30 What Watch is that (Reference Number)?
Don't have it in front of me at the moment, but check the pinned comment on this video, I put it there because so many people asked about it.
Personally, I don’t see why these aren’t made from kevlar🤔🤔
I agree with the pros you mentioned on the perlons....
however I have yet to see a nice, decent quality perlon strap for say about $10~20.
I once used a perlon, it was stiff and mats used was rough that it added loads of stretches on the case back of my speedy....
Just discovered your channel. Great video!
I imagine there's no cutting and burning with these. With a Nato, or single pass Zulu, you can burn it like paracord.
Don't they just COMPLETELY relax when on wrist, like.... slack? I'd think the fit would be undisciplined. think I'd be overtitghtening with it.
I hate those nato straps ! this is way better, thin, more comfortable ! Looks good !
I've bought some nato and i don't like how watch looks on my wrist with them. Its too big.
I think i have to try perlon! Thx :)
You mean you want to try a ZULU strap.. perlon is the material..
I absolutely adore that black orient star, what's the reference?!
Not an Orient Star, it's part of their standard Orient line. Don't have the reference in front of me but it' usually called the Polaris
What about the parachute straps?
I prefer those to NATOs for military and sports watches. But for dress watches, definitely still take a perlon over either.
@@JusttheWatch Yeah I thought so. I have a silver dialled watch that's begging for a perlon! 😋
Intro song? Also should the buckle be near the watch case or in the middle of the wrist?
I guess it's up to you on the buckle, I like it in the middle, just like I would wear a normal two peice strap. Can't remember which song the intro was here, I get all of them from UA-cam's audio library.
@@JusttheWatch Ok thanks! I picked a grey perlon for my SKX013. Keep it up with the nice content!
Nice but that buckle is 2 cent rubbish. I think I will look for a more premium one.
A very fine review. Good job.
Great, I just bought a bunch of Nato straps. Guess I should have bought a bunch of Perlon straps instead.
Question... Is there ANY nato, zulu or perlon strap which is thinner by the buckle??
No.
I haven't come across any. I think the one peice construction makes it difficult to work that out.
Is Strapville out of business now? Seems their site is throwing errors/warnings, and their Facebook hasn't been updated in about 2 years....
Yeah, I think the pandemic did them in.
It’s all about single pass straps for me
Yay, you have the Cadisen I've been considering for a while now!
I love NATO but these look great. Im gonna have to check them out
Hey man, nice channel, what is the song from 0:27 to 0:35 ?

Can you list the watches show in this video?

Other watches shown: Cadisen C8173, Bulova Lunar Pilot, Orient Polaris, Laco Casablanca, Spinnaker Fluess, and the Citizen Brycen Chronograph
I'll try to label the watches I use in future videos!
David, how large of a wrist will these fit? I’ve got an 8 1/2” wrist due to some arthritis and finding a watch band that fits comfortably is a bit of a trick.
Should fit you fine, I have a 7.5 inch wrist, and I had to shorten them a bit to get rid of all the extra strap that it had.
I am looking for a 2 piece perlon (canvas or soft cotton fabric preferable if there are any), since I have a smartwatch (Samsung). What makers and models would you (or anyone else) recommends?
Eulit makes a two-piece option
This is like saying oranges are better than butterflies. Perlon is a material you can use it for a NATO strap.
They’re reminiscent of those woven leather belts that we all wore in the ‘90s!
The negative I've heard about perlon is that it is itchy. Did you find that? The Tan with black buckle looked amazing on the Laco. 👍 👍
Overall not itchy. Maybe just a little when I was first breaking it in, but after awhile they were among the most comfortable straps I've worn.
Nice presentation. Enjoy in good health.
You sold the idea to Moi! My Bolder needs one
Whats the name of orient plz
David: Reviews Perlon straps
CNS: What did we do wrong!!!
I would add on that CNS Jubilee nato is quite comfortable
I've ordered a lot from CNS. I love their variety and low prices, they're awesome for trying out new looks. But basically every single strap that I've gotten from them has struck me as being low quality, and as soon as I find one I like, I immediately go looking for a nicer version of the same strap. Haven't tried one of their Jubilee straps yet, they look cool though!
A flexible zulu is my favorite in summer.
$19 hmm, they look no different to the ~$5 perlons on Ali.
I bought a 2-piece perlon recently (to avoid it getting thicker) but wasn’t really a fan
Perlon is nothing new, I have a vintage 70's black perlon on my Swiss Venus mechanical watch. Really good ❤
So everyone came for the same reason as me. What's the Orient model in the thumbnail?

Thanks. It's a beautiful watch. Will try the perlon strap sometime. Can you also do a video on deployment clasps?.
I think that strap is going to accumulate an unbelievable amount of dirt very quickly.
Nah, 5-ring Zulu w/ Springmade buckle is better.
