The vanilla game needs *real* walls. Concrete blocks that you can use to build walls and buildings that don't like like they are held together with spit and tissue paper. The *Romans* had concrete.
+Ollie B True. But foundations aren't walls. They are large and cumbersome. It just seems the game designers wanted the post-apocalyptic aesthetic over sense.
Thank you so much for the shoutout and link! I'm honored to be referenced in such a cool video, I love the perfected walls 2.0. =) It does look awesome! Yes it does.
i spent all my fucking resources on your previous 'advanced walls video', now you upload this fucking masterpiece, make my red rocket look shit and force me to sit and cry in a corner... thanks a fucking lot Davey, keep up the good work:)
I don't even know why I watch these. Not only am I playing a different game right now, but the drive-in has been my "main settlement" for the whole of my current save and I STILL have never built walls all the way around it. So I may never ever actually get around to building such a complete looking settlement as you regularly produce. Must be because I just plain enjoy watching you work. And you have a nice voice to listen to while I'm drinking. Strangely, I never seem to have suffered from the lack of wall. I let the chain-link fence do most of the work, since flimsy as it looks not even a deathclaw seems to be able to get through it. I put my main building complex along the edge close to where you're working here, so the structures themselves act as a wall, and what I think of as the "front" and "back" of the area (respectively, the gate by the projection tower, and the spot near the screen where the provisioners come in) are heavily fortified... which is good enough. For some reason, anything that attacks this settlement ONLY attacks the front entrance. That's very considerate of them, no? I occasionally get some vermin coming down the bluff on the side by the workshop, but the settlers are heavily armed and numerous enough to take them down without help, and the "back" entrance is never attacked at all. And I hate those fucking bollards. They break off if you (or a brahmin, or...) bump into them, so they roll all over the place and get in the way in random places, but you can't get rid of them. Bleh.
it always amazes me at the awesome things you do @Norespawns...of course i feel as though i need to scrap all my crap settlements afterwards in embarrassment but i suppose thats normal.
I found you can flip those scrapable cars using the rug glitch. I was trying to put a generator in the engine space of the one in County Crossing and once I removed the rug, the car flipped up in the air. Not sure what use that would be, I just thought I'd mention it. I fit one into the truck there though because that seemed to be a static object. Boy did I feel clever for that idea.
Will you be making a base in the Mechanist's lair? I've personally found luck in building against the massive door, but I'm curious how you'll do things there.
There’s some useful information here on construction. In my experience, junk walls take up too much build space in the settlement build meter. I can’t imagine using them as decoration, unless you’re willing to use the settlement side glitch (repeatedly storing guns).
Seeing this I have a thought. If you were able to put some half walls instead of whole walls you could build a floorway in the middle of those walls. And build up some gun ports or a gun slot that goes across the entire wall so if you need to defend, you could spray away. Just a thought. Great video btw. :-)
This is where my primary settlement is. so flat and easy to build on.. love it. I built my house on top of the drive in screen. I look down on my people as I watch them worship me.
Has anyone noticed that now doors snap in door frames of buildings? I noticed it at red rocket with the frame that leads into the room with the terminal. Saves so much time and effort
I like them! It's really a bit different and more solid, but why haven't you (in the walled corners) pu maybe a Door in, instead of the flatt Walls? I mean, there are Windows and an open Room, why not use it? (= Wouldbe the perfect spot for the Guards or something like that? (=
very useful and easy to do, on another note theirs been more DLC announced, its apparently called lonesome rhode, looks cool check it out. hoping its not a april fools joke lol.
nice vid Fun little fact if you want to put gardposts on the wall you can let them be ~half outside the wall ( like at the castle) keep up the good work :D
great video ty👍do you think there's a way to make this a little higher e.g. as part of a bigger wall (maybe use concrete foundations) and have the space between the two towers as a walkway for guards inside (with turrets up top instead?)
Brilliant video man. I have fifteen basic settlements with just enough food water and defense to support between two and four settlers. The idea is that I will take my time to build each settlement up and increase its size. Your videos really help, although I'm having a problem with one of my junk fences which for some reason when I select it always appears half submerged in the ground and if I try to use it, it drowns all my carpets. Anyway, good job Davey.
I just happened to watch this video and ... I made it in 2minutes without rug glitch...how? The wooden foundations with wooden pillars snap into fence walls and u can adjust the heights very high, mid( wich is same level of wooden platform ) low almost sink into the ground. But I know on PS4 is hard to combine objects .
why not place the wall on the upper bridge thingy to get it straight, and then remove the bridge underneath, before dropping the wall straight down to ground level.
Do you know any place where I can find lots of wood? Because I barely have any left, after spending it on making my gatehouse at sanctuary hills and trying to give all settlements a shelter and defense,
There are vendors that can sell you wood and steel shipments. Spectacle island also has a ton of trees if you haven't already scrapped them. Unless you're on pc, you can't really do anything else.
+Ibetnoonehasthisnameyt so you don't have to spend ages getting the fences perfectly straight - they're not actually one normal wall across - so eventually you'd need to overlap some of them and it just generally looks messy.
I have one more foundation left in sanctuary to build on. What should I put there? I already have a power amor/weapons building, store, trading post, and bar
+arainbowhughnicorn I've heard you can eventually crash because of this, which can force you to go back to an earlier save. Exercise caution above build limits.

+No Cheese Please Xbox one is really stable compared to the ps 4 and I've used it about 3 times in sanctuary adding a lot of junk to decorate and still no lag so you can do it several times especially in large settlement
Thanks a lot for the answer Kev, much appreciated! I've used the glitch once at Kingsport because I wanted to build David's advanced walls around the settlement. Just out of curiosity do you know why xbox is more stable? Also I fucking love your avatar photo.
Good job, lots of effort. But to be honest I've found the Better Junk Fences mod has made life so much easier - certainly where walls are concerned. Standard, medium and huge in height. So many options it's not funny and they all snap in to each other at 2-3 levels. Junk fences done for your whole settlement in less than 20 minutes = awesome!!! Not perfect for everything but it makes life so much easier. No rugs required.
Hey just so you know instead of making a chain through your settlements send all your provisioners to Bunker Hill if you have that settlement unlocked.
Hey Davey, I love your videos man! Helped inspire me to do a lot of things in my game, which my mates are astounded at, and I definitely stole 90% of the shit from you. I've surrounded Oberland with junk fence. It's a novice job but I'll get better as I build. I have spent hours overweight walking around, looting certain places. I left the Glowing Sea with like 7000+/300. I got 8 full suits of Enclave X-02 (6), and Enclave Hellfire (2) Power Armor. I plan on building a place to max, taking all resources to another settlement and maxing it.
I really enjoy the aesthetic of wasteland walls. However my headcannon will not allow me to build walls for my super militia that could be defeated by a single molotov coctail.

why not place the wall on the upper bridge thingy to get it straight, and then remove the bridge underneath, before dropping the wall straight down to ground level.
+Scandiwegian exactly what i thought... i also don't understand why he doesn't use the L1+X combination to adjust height more precise...

Scrap all trees on spectacle island
/\ damn you said the same thing right after me
what's the best way to get wood and steel because I'm always running out trying to replicate his builds
There are vendors that can sell you wood and steel shipments.
Spectacle island also has a ton of trees if you haven't already scrapped them.
Unless you're on pc, you can't really do anything else.
+Extended Clip
I thought it didn't work with the new updates?
Maybe I'll try it then.
ConManGaming buy a shipment then use the duplication glitch unlimited resources forever I have ove 12000 wood and steel
Not sure about this one. the flexiblity of the other wall style makes it for me but ill probably mix them together anyway
If you added the junk fences to give the reinforce look and the cover the wood walls,, then what's the point of having the first wood walls?
+Ibetnoonehasthisnameyt so you don't have to spend ages getting the fences perfectly straight - they're not actually one normal wall across - so eventually you'd need to overlap some of them and it just generally looks messy.

robot creation area maybe? :/
+Clayton Johnson A bathtub! Cleanliness is next to Godliness!
I know i am super late but what are good mods to get
I can't even go to Sanctuary anymore cause I built too much and it lags like crazy.

Another message from me on an old video, sorry. I’ve been told online that walls don’t really do much to stop enemies getting in, they are more of an aesthetic. This can’t be right though. What are your thoughts?
I might not be the person you’re asking but the wall in this game only “kinda” works.
Wall can prevent the hostile NPC that spawn in random encounters wanders in to your settlement. But as for the scripted attacks, some of the enemy spawn locations is too close to the crafting area so depending on your walls layout, enemy can spawn inside the wall.
And if you directly fast travel to your settlement that’s being attacked, the game can’t calculate any sort of obstacles between the attackers and their destination(mostly the center of the settlement or the closest settler from them)so as soon as you reach there, the game ends up “popping” attackers right inside your settlement.
Edit: Walls do help, but only sometimes. It’s much more efficient and reliable to spam missile turrets around the attackers spawn point then spending lots of resources and time to build up a wall. So most of the players doesn’t really bother with it.
