- Credit for this vid goes to www.miceinfreefall.com. I hope they don't mind me putting it up here. There aren't many Adam Ant videos on this site, and I want to make it easier for fans to scourge through vids. I had a hard time, in the beginning at least!
i have yet to hear another band that has such a brilliant tribal drumming sound, the band has always been awsome.
I guess its easy for people to sit at their screens and knock this but its got energy and charisma that isnt seen enough these days. The guy was well fancied in his day and he is part of history. Good on you Adam - you were there and you rocked!
Me too. I drove from maryland to western pennsylvania before interstate 68 -60 was built in the 80's. I was jamming to this song and got pulled over for speeding near cumberland.
proper and in a different league hats off to him original ,no one could stand toe to toe in his day english music at its best, he always has a place in my heart.
Love the raw energy of this song.....
Adam ant was the best singers in nineteen eighties i use to go to the school disco dressed up as him complete with white strip
awsome band so original in their day ,and prob still are one of the great bands of all time.
This song is in the movie 'Marie Antoinette'- when she and Fersen are together...cooooooool....
And this was risque for our time....I still love Adam Ant!
The percussion style made Adam and the Ants so unique and amazingly different !
God, I love the drum work in this song!!
the drums send a chill down my spine as I remember hearing this live at Brighton in concert
LUCKY!!!!!!
In case anyone has (or hasn't) noticed that's Danny Kleinman is on bass here. Adam's buddy from Bazooka Joe who also appeared in the Antmusic video and directed a few Ant clips. He filled in inbetween Kevin Mooney and Gary Tibbs in February 1981.
He's in about three "Kings..." lip sync performances.
Dude has such great energy with his movements! You know he is into the song, not just going through the movements!
Look at that beautiful face of Adams ❤️💛🐜
Frontier. kings of the wild frontier.....The early 80s were amazing i loved every minute of it the music and fashion are some of the things that thatcher couldnt ruin. you had to be there lol it was even warm in the summers in those days.
This was the very first time I saw Adam Ant I remember it so well. As an 11 yr old I fell madly in love with his look, sound and moves 33 years later still love him. Vi Ve Le ANTMUSIC.
Brilliant song and very influential. Time Adam got some respect from the UK, he was very maligned in the UK. UK FAN. Camden Town days!
Brilliant Adam and the boys, hard days but good family memories. Camden Town, London raver days x
nobody made music like adam ant
Adam and the Ants are utter legend's x x
incredibly low amount of views.fabulously anthemic and original.oh for something this good and fresh today!
Danny Kleinman on bass. Stand in between Mooney and Tibbs. Kleinman a pal of Adam's and the guy behind the Warrior Ant logo.
Yes - the drumming riff is hypnotic and mesmerizing - it draws you in and seduces you with it's alluring, primal, dazzling percussion. The drumming just "iced" it for me.
Thanks so much for post. This particular TOTP episode was the first time I'd seen or heard of AATA and I've been a loyal fan since over 30 yrs later still listening still loving the music. Who said ANTMUSIC wouldn't last .... Well it did went to see mr ant twice in last 12 months rocked both times. AM4SP. THAT TRIBAL DRUMBEAT ADAMS VOICE AND MARCOS GUITAR PLAYING. MAGIC x x x
All these Ant clips on youtube bring back some happy memories of listenting to this in my schooldays...i'm 40 next year.....
It's Danny Kleinman. Kevin had left at this point, and Gary Tibbs hadn't joined yet. Kevin's in a band called the lavendar pill mob now and showed up at Adams gig in London last September.
King of the Wild Frontier Forever!
I loved this group. Still do. It's sad to see what happened to Adam over the years though.
:(
The first single I ever bought with my pocket money. 1981, I think? God Adam Ant was sexy!!
i LOVE THIS TRACK...STILL DRUM ALONG ON THE TABLE TO IT!! fABULOUS..THANX
I'm 42 now....but I recall people losing their minds over Ant music
metalfacedoom71 We're the same age. Ant Music was and is the goods. That drum section is absolutely nothing nice, hypnotic if naught else...
in his day he was awesome this album was brilliant just takes me back to a happy time wish i was a teen in clubs when it was getting blasted out i bet it was unreal !! thanks for post!
I'm 11, I love this song. Its just so differant from most songs you hear today.
I just found this video today. You're 21 now. lol Hope the last ten years have been good to you and you've discovered a lot more great, older music along the way!
Adam was my first crush, when I was 13, great songs and he was so incredible hansome, so sorry to know he had a mental illness
Some of the best people have either had or still have Mental illness/Genius
Bruce C well Kirk cobain was bipolar too
I remember when this song came out 12 mates and I went down our main street at 10.30pm yes 10.30pm singing this quite loudly , not very but quite. Oh mad times
Some insane guitar work here too. Marco did feedback like no-one else! Ahhh! I'm 9 again, and still a shade too white...! Nice post.
Adam and the Ants were my first true love.....I still lovingly have each and every album, and still remember all the lyrics!
Lets hope not...i never saw him the first time around..still would love to..he still is my man..Mr Ant...:-)xxxx
Me too. That's about the simplist drumming on this song as it gets. Many groups were going to electronica, tim toms. If the ants had it wouldn't work. The tribal, raw, tough beat allowed him to get dandy vocally. Imagine with electric drum pads. Two drummers rock.
What an Incredible drum sound - loud as war!
Merrick & Terry Lee Miall could really play the hell out of 'em. Think they played like this on every Ants track they did; it's tribal & LOUD. Not much compares to Merrick & Terry Lee Miall. It's still jaw-dropping to see this today.
no one will ever come close to duplicating Adam!
Please somebody get these five guys back together asap ! And come to America ! We 💛Adam , AND the ants too :)
Best drum sound ever!!!
Total class - oh to have been in the TOTP audience that week! *dribble!*
So relieved my mate told the who this was by i heard it used on Sky one to feature this weeks episode of Modern Family.
You call her Lady Blah Blah............I call her Lady Goo Goo.
She can't hold a candle to Adam Ant - and Lady Blah Blah's work is totally derivative, banal and pedestrian. Nothing about her work comes remotely close to how innovative, incandescent, phosphorescent, inciendiary, dazzling, revolutionary Adam Ant was and is.
Adam Ant blew the roof off the joint in this video - it's over 30 years old. It still holds up in 2012 as a solid classic. This is the proof of Adam Ant's artistry
Antpeople are the warriors. Woah!
I know it was common to mime on the 80's Top Of The Pops, but I have heard Adam sing live a few months back, and he can actually sing live. Not like some artists now who sound great on an album but cannot sing in real life.
thanks is due to you its so good to see him perform and loved the link too the pics of adam were brill great taste in music too
Love this. And I think it's so cute how they traded clothes. I think everyone but Marco wore "Kev's waist coat" at one time or another. Merrick kind of resembles Boris Karloff in the way he did his make up. Cute.
I always liked Ants drums in most of their songs.
The first real band I git into when I was a sprog!!!!!! Still got the albums, and they still come out sometimes!!!!
Wasn't it Danny Kleinman that designed the Antz logo too...?
I seem to remember Kevin Mooney falling radically from grace during a royal variety performance. Tool. He joined Ashman, Barbe and Gorman as Ant wannabes. Long live Adam!
I love watching him flail around in that tiny red washcloth. :D
crap this is just too f'ing amazing!! Brilliant!!!
wild!!!!
a poor man's version of GenX but worthy in their own right. kings of the wild frontier was part of my high school soundtrack.
Ditto on both counts old bean!!!
fantastic
Just awsum
Marco Pirroni - quality riffs
adam is a very sexy handsome gorgeous brave man some of these comments below ppl need to grow up.
Genius.
Even though he acted as if he did take drugs.....Adam Ant never took drugs
Apparently a lot of people forget what it's like to have a lot of pent up energy!
It's amazing when you come across something that gives you that feeling! It's awesome! I loved dancing like crazy didn't care what people thought. I moved with the music!
Amanda....A true individual.....I respect that.
Alan Defoe And so are you! :) Everyone is an in individual... the problem seems to be that so many people don't give themselves permission to be themselves and worry too much about what others think...
Awwww thanks Amanda. x
AmandaSF41 True, I think it was also a consequence of his bipolar disorder. He was either incredibly up or completely down. Saw him last year.. still brilliant.
Brilliant performance. Shame the comments below do not justify the man or his music.
Grow up people.
1981-Adam Ant = Chicks = Left-overs = ME!
OH MY TAKE THE SHIRT OFF?
@_@
*squeeeeee*
Didn't even notice until now that it's Danny Kleinman on Bass. Guess I was looking at someone else. :)
My very first crush....
So Amazing. They are legendary!!!!
lol..my first album purchase also
@CompactJam - And here you are on UA-cam, dining out on your fantastic, fascinating, 100% true story. I guess you really showed him, huh?
Thanks. I actually think someone told me that but it slipped my mind. Age...
Yeah, Kleinman did the Warrior Ant logo we see on the back of Dog Eat Dog.
@BAYCITYROLLERBOY Wow, whoever wrote that article was a prophet.
They all mimed on TOTP's then FFS....not even a vaild question,,,,,,,,awesome track though.......one of the best. glad i was there first time round...and still sounds good today. still got the vinyl, lol
@scoutmangler Did Layne really appreciate Adam ?? Oh that gives me chills ..I bet Adam Love to hear that !
Ooops that meant to be a THUMBS UP!!
Stupid computers!
Please don't beat me too hard!!!
XXX
back then he had no idea he would through a car alternated through a window
Alex NugetYT I heard about that that was wild?
no one knows whats gonna happen years down the line
I actually think it will happen this time around. I squabbled with alot of people that thought he was done, then he did a book and even a concert. I don't believe he's done by any means.
3:00 Lady Di in the front row!
@backinburntcity Yeah. He is a big fan of bowie and adam and the ants. You can tell it in his style.
& adam the blueblack husser make's a great come back , Dirk rock's ! xoxxooxoxxoox !
you can see the drummers playing but you cant hear them. Did totp film a silent video then add the music in?
@MaggieTheCat01 No, Johnny Depp and Jack Sparrow should remind you of Adam Ant, since he was before them.
ABSOLUTELY!!!! He is sex defined-both then and now!!! :-)
I guess this is what "X" Factor actually looks like?
dont hate on me cus tbf i am abit thick if i didnt know this but do they mime on top of the pops??O_O? i know sum ppl sound like they cudnt actually be singing it but they must be that good at it but do they relli mime?? x
I was 12. First record I ever bought, B side was Press Dar-liiiiings.
BUT WHO IS THE BASS PLAYER? It isn't Mooney and he's too tough looking to be Tibbs with dyed black hair ? Mystery for over 30 years.
I thought the Berundi style drumming really set him apart. Radio did not quite know what to do with him sandwhiched between the Dead Kennedy's Holiday in Cambodia and Journey's Separate Ways. Radio execs certainly got their hands on him and lost the drumming in favor of more horns. "Strip..." really?
He reminds me of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.
@BringMeSunshine31 Exactly what I was thinking before I read your coment. Love the hell outa them but no way thats live. Exacly like the LP.
Soooo original. What do the kids of today have??
One of the first groups to use two drummers? Not even close.
Where's the help. Frightening on my own here lol 360 On there ass time too pay the artists am coming for paper
@backinburntcity Why can't you?
this is them lip synching. it was for a tv show. tv shows in teh 80s stopped letting bands perform live b-c it's cheaper to have them lip synch. live, the dual-drummers weren't that synched. but it was still fun!
enjoy the music , so long as hes not gary glitter who cares
Brilliant. First album I ever bought. I guess it's about time that Lady Blah Blah butchered and sampled the fuck out of this for our latest generation of automatons.
I'd love to hear the snowflake people trying to take Adam out with their 'Cultural Appropriation' crap.... (or whatever they/them were calling it last week) - That would be a wonderful glimpse into the minds of 'special' people. They can't / won't touch this dude and his crew / fan-base, because.... you know / I know / they know, their delicate world would come crumbling down in an instant. Long live the Warrior... Peace out.
