  • Credit for this vid goes to www.miceinfreefall.com. I hope they don't mind me putting it up here. There aren't many Adam Ant videos on this site, and I want to make it easier for fans to scourge through vids. I had a hard time, in the beginning at least!

    I guess its easy for people to sit at their screens and knock this but its got energy and charisma that isnt seen enough these days. The guy was well fancied in his day and he is part of history. Good on you Adam - you were there and you rocked!

    Me too. I drove from maryland to western pennsylvania before interstate 68 -60 was built in the 80's. I was jamming to this song and got pulled over for speeding near cumberland.

    In case anyone has (or hasn't) noticed that's Danny Kleinman is on bass here. Adam's buddy from Bazooka Joe who also appeared in the Antmusic video and directed a few Ant clips. He filled in inbetween Kevin Mooney and Gary Tibbs in February 1981.
    He's in about three "Kings..." lip sync performances.

    Yes - the drumming riff is hypnotic and mesmerizing - it draws you in and seduces you with it's alluring, primal, dazzling percussion. The drumming just "iced" it for me.

    Me too. That's about the simplist drumming on this song as it gets. Many groups were going to electronica, tim toms. If the ants had it wouldn't work. The tribal, raw, tough beat allowed him to get dandy vocally. Imagine with electric drum pads. Two drummers rock.

  • @thirdpirate
    @thirdpirate 8 років тому +6

    What an Incredible drum sound - loud as war!
    Merrick & Terry Lee Miall could really play the hell out of 'em. Think they played like this on every Ants track they did; it's tribal & LOUD. Not much compares to Merrick & Terry Lee Miall. It's still jaw-dropping to see this today.

    You call her Lady Blah Blah............I call her Lady Goo Goo.
    She can't hold a candle to Adam Ant - and Lady Blah Blah's work is totally derivative, banal and pedestrian. Nothing about her work comes remotely close to how innovative, incandescent, phosphorescent, inciendiary, dazzling, revolutionary Adam Ant was and is.
    Adam Ant blew the roof off the joint in this video - it's over 30 years old. It still holds up in 2012 as a solid classic. This is the proof of Adam Ant's artistry

    I know it was common to mime on the 80's Top Of The Pops, but I have heard Adam sing live a few months back, and he can actually sing live. Not like some artists now who sound great on an album but cannot sing in real life.

    Love this. And I think it's so cute how they traded clothes. I think everyone but Marco wore "Kev's waist coat" at one time or another. Merrick kind of resembles Boris Karloff in the way he did his make up. Cute.

    I thought the Berundi style drumming really set him apart. Radio did not quite know what to do with him sandwhiched between the Dead Kennedy's Holiday in Cambodia and Journey's Separate Ways. Radio execs certainly got their hands on him and lost the drumming in favor of more horns. "Strip..." really?

    I'd love to hear the snowflake people trying to take Adam out with their 'Cultural Appropriation' crap.... (or whatever they/them were calling it last week) - That would be a wonderful glimpse into the minds of 'special' people. They can't / won't touch this dude and his crew / fan-base, because.... you know / I know / they know, their delicate world would come crumbling down in an instant. Long live the Warrior... Peace out.
