That dude is a jerk. Additionally, I’ve never heard that Israel is no longer God’s chosen people. That doesn’t mean dual covenant theology is correct either. They can be God’s chosen, while still needing to repent and follow Jesus.
@@GMurph2336 I’ve mostly seen reformers teach replacement theology, but in the oldest black classical Pentecostal denomination that I grew up in, they never out right said it. I felt it was implied. I kind believe this until I was taught better in an IHOP in NJ.

Eric's wife: This was not a debate and Gabe failed to position himself as dignified in any capacity. Gabe is the one confused. Michael Brown has a personal faith, Gabe from what he has presented does not have a knowledge of the Holy Spirit, but rather an interest in theology only. Gabe asks why Michael Brown takes things "personally", I should kinda think it to be obvious because Michael has a personal relationship with the Lord but Gabe doesn't show any of that by either his attitude or terminology. Maybe he does but he doesn't show it. I even showed this to my husband and both of us couldn't stand Gabe. Bleh.
Watch gabes opening and rebuttal in full debate. He had great understanding of the fulness of God's covenant. He revved up when brown started calling him a liar which is a type of ad hominem.

1) Why did Paul tell the Galatians not to be circumcised and then circumcise Timothy in Acts 16?
2) Why did Paul observe a Nazarite vow in Acts 28:18?
3) Why did James rejoice that Jews who had come to faith were also zealous for the Torah?
4) Why did James instruct Paul to take 4 Jewish believers to the Temple in Acts 21?
5) Why did Paul participate in a Jewish ceremony at the Temple in Acts 21?
6) Why did THE SAME Jews who walked with Jesus during his earthly ministry when they were young, continue to live as Jews in their older years as Jewish followers of Jesus, even AFTER the Temple was destroyed?
7) Why did Paul say Jews who did not believe were BOTH enemies of the Gospel but beloved for the father's sake?
8) How could Paul be referring to anyone other than Israel in Romans 11:1?
9) Why did Paul say that "all Israel shall be saved"?
10) What does Romans 11:21 mean? i.e. who are the "natural branches"?

Wow. Gabe is Incredibly disrespectful . The dude needs to humble himself & relinquish his pride.
Gabe is saying that Jews being God’s chosen people = salvation and no need of repentance. But even when everyone agrees that they were God’s chosen people in the Old Testament, they were called to repent over and over again. There is no reason to conflate Brown’s position with Dual Covenant.
This has strong *Clint Eastwood arguing with a chair at the 2012 RNC* vibes.
It’s really simple:
To be God’s chosen people doesn’t mean that you are saved, just because you are the chosen people and were given the law. The law does not deem us righteous, but faith alone. We show this faith through our repentance and ability to follow God’s commands. This was true for Old and New Covenant. (Just read basically any of Paul’s letters)
Being God’s chosen people doesn’t save you. He’s not saying the Jews have a different pathway because that ain’t how it works anyways.

He debated around Dr. Brown instead of engaging Dr. Brown. That was the problem. Also the way Gabe handled himself on social media I unfollowed him. That was disgustingly prideful and shameful lack of display of fruits of the Spirit.

Browns case is not thorough, but relied on accusing gabe of lying, which I can't see that he did

Why is this channel, the moderating channel of the debate, liking everyone’s responses that are ripping Gabe apart? YOU chose to have him as a guest, you’re supposed to be unbiased as the moderator. I still don’t understand what they were disagreeing about when Dr. Brown clarified that he believes the Jewish people need Jesus for salvation. It felt like there was a weird level of assumptions inserted with Dr. Brown’s position because his languages can mirror those who do subscribe to dual covenant theology , but his points were never addressed properly from what I saw
I’m glad Jesus gift is free for all to sacrifice and I also am glad that the lord we serve is ever suffering patient and faithful. If that faithfulness translates to the Hebrew people still having a part to play in God’s plan here on earth. I’m not going to throw a fuss about it. In the end the insides of our bowls must be clean not the outside

I used to be like Gabe. So full of pride and arrogance that I couldn’t afford to be wrong. I was cruel and wrathful, incendiary and disrespectful. I’m confident that Gabe being around great Christian leaders such as Dr. Michael Brown and Ruslan he’ll come to a saving knowledge of God.
Why just have this segment of the debate? You need to watch the previous part to see gabe position. Ppl are only seeing his reaction to brown calling him a liar.

Everyone here just attacking gabe, dr brown seems to be talking from two sides, how can jews still be chosen with the understanding of the new convenant? Doesn’t that translate to dual convenant… and you kept on attacking gabe like he did something wrong, and you’re liking comments of people insult him on your channel. I came away thinking that it was a pure loss.
I was sincerely interested in hearing both sides on this topic because it's a theological idea that I don't hold a firm position on.
I'll admit that Dr. Brown probably muddied the waters a little bit with the "point of order" comment after the rebuttal section. It was Gabe's first debate and he could have let that slide.
But Gabe was being incredibly provocative with the prophets of Baal bit. He should have just dropped the arguments on dual covenant theology and dispensationalism and moved onto the crux of the argument.
At no point did I feel like they were actually addressing each other. The whole debate felt like they were arguing past each other.
I really wanted to see a debate with some decorum. I came expecting William Lane Craig vs. Sam Harris and got James Tour vs. Dave Farina instead.
And, as someone in the chat said that night, it felt like TheosU was the biggest loser there. Nate needs to rein in Gabe after that one.

Just because you use the same words, terminology, and Scriptures doesn't mean you have the same beliefs. That's not mature or educated in logic and reasoning. Most cults out there use Christianese. It doesn't mean we have the same positions, conclusions, and doctrines.
I don't think Gabe understands that the covenant with Abraham predates the covenant with Moses regarding the law.
The covenant with Abraham and the chosen people was justification by faith. Abram believed God and it was counted as righteousness.
The covenant with Moses was condemnation by law.
The new covenant law is life, freedom and mercy. Romans 8:2, James 2:12
I’ll reserve my opinion on both individuals until watching an unedited version of the debate.

Gabe was definitely immature, but I have to admit that Ruslan’s moderating could have been better. I think it was good to fact check, no doubt about it. That’s his job. But neither of these guys were saying anything to clarify their position, at least in this clip. I was waiting for Ruslan to ask them questions to get them to comment the specifics on their beliefs, but it never came. Facilitate the debate. Get it moving in the right direction. I can assume based on the comments that Gabe was lying but I would never know it from the facts given to me in this video.

The problem with Gabe’s orthodox view point is that Romans 11:29 can’t be reconciled. Thank goodness Paul saw fit to include it into scripture as he must have been able to see through to the end that God still has plans to restore Israel through His Son… thus being both sons into His eternal house.

I've been listening to Dr. Brown and Gabe via TheosU since 2015, and watching this made me grieve. I'm about to watch the entire debate now (because I want more pain). Okay, barely two minutes into the debate, Gabe's lack of respect is insane to me. I'm probably in my feelings, but dang. Don't be a D bag, Gabe.

I submit for consideration that the greatest value of this video was not the topic but rather the conduct of the two interviewees. Personally, I don't know either of these men. I have no knowledge of either man's work/ministry, so my comments here are not jaded by being a follower of either.
What I saw in this exchange is the stark contrast between representing God well vs. being the type of Christian who turns off unchurched, secular people.
The guy on the left was thoughtful, kind, listened, and yet spoke the truth as he understood it, while the other guy was obnoxious and downright rude. Isn't this our challenge? How do we passionately speak the truth yet avoid being inappropriate in how we proclaim it?
I am convinced that we will not succeed with our God-given assignments if we fail to be winsome to the world (and those who are listening/watching us). Still, at the same time, we must be passionate about speaking the truth. However, our need to speak the truth does not condone rude and disrespectful behavior. Importantly, this approach will not be successful. Therefore, I (we) need to regularly ask myself, is my objective to win the debate or win the soul for Christ?
In this video, the guy on the right failed miserably if his intention was to correct errant thinking, while the other interviewee provided us with a useful example of how to handle conflict.
With this comment, I want to add an additional consideration: We don't know what is going on in the personal life of either individual. Therefore, this video reminds me that I need to be circumspect as I respond to unacceptable behavior. While we must publicly decry unhelpful behavior, we can still engage the obnoxious person using a demeanor that includes a sincere, caring, enquiring spirit that seeks to understand.
We must always be cautious not to inadvertently condemn the errant individual but only their behavior. It's the behavior, the approach to the conflicting viewpoint, that was inappropriate. With this, I need to remind myself that the guy on the right may be going through traumatic personal trials, struggling with addictions or abuse, or he may be suffering from emotional strain, serious personal problems, or spiritual attacks. We don't know. This is my second point.
With this diatribe, my hope is that we will all learn two unintended lessons from this video. Frankly, as we consider the days ahead and what we will be facing, we had better learn this lesson now, or we will be doomed to lead an unproductive life. We will certainly not experience the victorious life that God intends for us.
I don't usually chime in on these chats, but today, this has been such a useful reminder for me, personally, that I feel compelled to share this reflection. Learning this lesson is far more significant than who was correct regarding the debate question.
I watched the whole debate. I was honestly looking for an intellectual debate on the history, scripture and facts of the Bible. I am someone who loves learning and growing in the Lord. I was too distracted by the way that Gabe was behaving to listen to what he was saying. He may have made really good arguments that were missed because of him getting so upset. Lets not forget that the world is watching how we treat each other. Many people who are curious about Christianity are turning away from it because of how we as Christians behave with each other and the world. I beg all Christians to not get caught up in the weeds. We are all believers but the world needs us to be better than this.

Being chosen for a spiritual operation isn't the same as being spiritually saved. The Jews can be chosen for God's grand plan of salvation and still send unbelieving Jews to hell.
Man, that was painful. I have certain disagreements with Dr Brown but no one should question his sincere and true Christian witness and his wisdom on a myriad of topics. Gabe acted incredibly foolishly and should really be embarrassed. This is not how any believer should act when disagreeing with another believer, but particularly when dealing with an elder brother in the faith. I hope he publicly repents of his ridiculous behavior.

Gabe has his place in theology and apologetics, but it's not here in this way. This is exhibiting behavior unfit for a Christian (which happens to each of us daily), and it is very important to bring it back to a respectful discussion that is fruitful. One that glorifies God.

I found it so ironic that Gabe was lamenting that the reformation was destructive and divisive right after his awful, cringe-worthy, and divisive debate performance. Theological unity is important and ought to be aimed at, but it is superficial without true unity of the Body: love for one another.

Gabe is equating "God's chosen people" as "saved" when that was never the case in the Old Testament. This presupposition is why he misunderstands Dr. Brown's position. Brown even pointed this out at one point, but Gabe likes to be strong and wrong.
No Gabe just wants to be proven right and refuses to hear the truth. God has never broken covenant with His people.

Dr. Brown does a lot of double speak. He’s a great debater, not a great theologian. Brown does a lot of what Bickle did… obfuscate and say one thing to one person and another thing to another.

What is sad is Gabe has probably lost a ton of respect because of this. There wasn’t any Grace or Mercy walking into this. He can think he’s right but no one cares about you being right if you push away listeners. Jesus Christ told the truth but he didn’t intentionally push people away. The truth He spoke pushed people away. There is a difference. Pray for Gabe because I feel like his heart isn’t set on what’s right. Regardless if he is correct on this topic or not.

I've seen Covenant theologians (ie. Gary Demar, Sam Storms) debate Dr. Brown with more maturity in there pinky toe than Gabe possesses in his entire being. This was incredibly embarrassing. Was looking forward to arguments and the challenging of ideas. This was incredibly disheartening.

I think something that is being overlooked here is that in a sense both parties were at fault for not "truly rebutting" the other.
Both of them just had talking points and verses they were using as evidence for their respective positions. As much as Finochio didn't "rebut" point for point Brown's points/Scriptures that were used as evidence for his points. Neither did Brown rebut the multitude of verses Finochio offered up as evidence for his position.
Removing any form of bias, it likely might have been better to set this up as a discussion/conversation piece about this theologically "debated" position. Rather than a formal debate where the focus is more about who follows the "debating" rules more, rather than who's position is making the most theologically coherent sense.
Some people like the formal debate structure so I get that, I've just found in formal debating - if you're good at the game of debate, you can technically win the debate, regardless of the objective truth of your position.
Given that I believe both of these men have the goal not only to be 'right' but to reach the truth of scripture, a less rules based approach, and a more conversational approach might have resulted in more theological understanding for the viewers.

Having amazing theology and a wealth of knowledge mean nothing when your arrogance completely outweighs anything you say. The Bible talks extensively about arrogance and pride. Gabe and other UA-cam/IG apologist seem to have a lean towards sarcasm in trying to prove their point. Gabe is like a 7 year old spoiled rich kid and his points, whether right or wrong get completely overshadowed by his arrogance and sarcasm.

A debate is a combination research, data, and critique all wrapped in presentation. While I believe both Dr. Brown and Gabe had good information to bring, Gabe totally dropped the ball in the presentation aspect. Gabe acted in a way I'd expect to see from atheists on Reddit as opposed to any Christian anywhere. I have the same disappointment in this debate as I did with the White-Flowers debate (except I feel both James White and Leighton Flowers dropped the presentation ball during cross examinations).
Gabe didn’t respond to Dr. Brown’s scripture passages and just tried bringing up early church fathers smh. I don’t think he did good at all.

To be fair, Brown was waaayyyy out of line also. He called the other guy names, accused him of lying instead of just being mistaken, and compared him to Nazis and persecutor of jews. Brown was just a hypocrite through and through, and I believe it's because the topic was about his race. Brown has pride in his race, a lot of pride. We call that racism when whites do that, do therefore Brown may be racist, which led him to being urgentle and a reviler unfortunately. It was nice that he apologized though.
@@fourthplateau944 During that three hours he called his own people out numerous times for their sin and rebellion against the Messiah who he loves. That doesn’t sound like racism to me. Finochio did lie multiple times and Brown didn’t need to point that out for many of us because we saw it for ourselves. Brown has spent his entire adult life calling the Jewish people (and us) to repentance. That’s not racism.

But according to the scriptures God set Israel apart for a special purpose and He made promises to them that have not been revoked. Read Genesis Chapter 15. The whole chapter is important but starting in verse 12 God put Abraham to sleep when He made His covenant with Abraham. This was not a two party deal. That’s why it can’t be revoked. There’s one piece of that promise that has not yet been fulfilled which I believe will happen during the 1,000 year reign of Christ on the Earth as foretold in Revelation 20 and that’s Israel’s possession of their land from the “Nile to the Euphrates.” Since God always keeps His promises this must happen. By then Israel will have fully repented and turned to their Messiah. The only reason I believe that is because I believe that the Bible is true.
The direct scriptual refutation of Gabes point; That you cannot call Israel Gods people anymore, is this: Romans 11 28-29 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.

It’s so unfortunate to see God’s people bicker like this. In the heat of the debate, everyone really needed to take a pause from trying to “win” and try clarifying and de escalate.
