Thanks for the vid! I use an AO cooler backpack. Not too much tackle storage but side pockets hold leader spools, main pocket with a single tackle tray, and the outer mesh for miscellaneous. The insulation keeps the cold from the ice pack away from your body.

You could have gone to Oso Flaco. Going there, you definitely need a backpack! Now that's a good hike! 30 to 40 minutes from the parking lot to the beach!

Thought about it… but we like to get on the beach fishing at sunrise. If we would’ve tried that, it would’ve been 9:30 by the time we got our lines wet- by then we’d have a short window before the wind picked up!

I have been learning how you fish the surf.
Thanks a bunch for lunch kid.
I have a tip for you.
Do a taste test Hook 2 Cook.
Before you put them in your mesh bag take out all the insides….and scrape out the red line along the backbone.
Have a Test Test Show and don’t forget the red line on the backbone.

@@Hook2Cook for sure! I actually started using a backpack meant to hold cans like a cooler to hold fish while I’m on the surf. Not nearly as much of storage as your bag. But it is insulated and keeps fish cold with an ice pack In there. I use it when I pack light for fluke. Cali covers have been great to reduce space too!

Every Tuesday it’s closed till noon, it used too be close all day back in the day. It’s sad what Guadalupe beach has become, sometimes it’s nearly impossible to get a parking spot at the beach, haven’t been there in like 3-4 yrs

Will the fish blood attract sharks?

    • @randylal
      @randylal 3 місяці тому

Yup probably really well cause that blood will make them curious when’s the last time a great white smelled barred surf perch blood ? Tip to the surfer bros YALL fish 2 I got freinds who surf twice a day but king story short dont surf when the surf fisherman are taxing fish there the fish struggling the blood recipe for one hell of an attack TGE blood will make them more on target, Hungry so no mistake bite , the bites will be to eat cause THE curiosity I think .

Add a first aid kit. Sucks when you cant stop bleeding 30 -45 mins from the car. "Quick stop bleed" gel, gause, med tape and a few bandaids can keep you fishing rather than end your day. Takes up less room than a wallet.

My biggest issue with walking so far to surf fish is pee, wader and gears on and all.
How do you take care of it without privacy? Just go? Thanks.

Haha if you’re wearing waders there’s no way way to do it! I just be careful not to drink too much water so I have to pee less often

I used to use a mesh dive bag for my fish until I had a fin poke my waders (has this ever happened to anyone else?). Now I just walk up to my truck every fish unfortunately and then I have to try to find the hole I was catching in.

Yes it’s happened. Still trying to think of a solution to that…. Maybe some sort of back with a mesh bottom but heavy duty material on the sides. Still needs to drain water but needs to protect the waders!
