Did this back in June '23 with a guide. Five of us plus the guide. 3 days total. Hiked south kaibab to phantom ranch. Camped there. Hiked to Havasupai camp grounds. Camped there. Then hiked back out the Bright Angel trail 35lb pack. This brought back some great memories. Like Steph said...This was the hardest thing I've every done too. Was well worth the pain.

It's March '22 Zach! Let's have a report when you get back from your trip to the GC!
I had a final stage cancer and chemo at age 51, in 2014, and walked out of chemo on my 52nd birthday, in Aug. of that year. Exactly a year later, I ran R2R for the first time, and my then 15yr old daughter, joined me. We ran it 5 times in a row together, and I've run it 3 more times solo, along with 3 Rim2Rivers.
I hope you have a fantastic trek. Train REALLY hard, wear a wide brim shade hat. A high quality electrolyte drink mix, like "Liquid I.V.," "Genius Electrolytes," "Tailwind," "Cytomax," etc. and stuff like GU Roctane taken every 45min will make a huge difference. It's not a bad idea to bring a bottle of 5hr energy drink, and have half when you leave Phantom, and half at Indian Garden (now called Havasupai Garden). Drop some broken high absorption magnesium pills into your drink mix too.
      Have fun!!

I'm one of those runners. I was there running Rim2River a week after you!
Chris, you and Stephanie did fantastic, and the filming is excellent. (You got your climb up "Devil's Cork Screw" out of sequence. That stage comes before Indian Garden, as does the slab sidewalk area, and the creeks that your crossed and soaked your hat in.)
Canyon rules state that if you blow up in the canyon, you owe the canyon a redemption hike. So Chris,.....you have to go back! A couple things that'll help you next time. If you want to see the whole trail, and not travel in the dark of early morning, pick a time of year when temps at the bottom, and on the cork screw, will be better. Generally that means late March, April, most of May, and in the Fall, mid-Aug, Sept, Oct. Try to be on the trail just before actual sunrise, and travel a bit faster on the downhill. You probably would have felt a lot better to have been in shorts the entire time, as Stephanie did, even if it meant being a little cold while waiting for the bus, and the first 5min on the trail. Same with the shirt. Instead of cotton, a white, long sleeve, light weight, moisture wicking shirt, would have been amazing. Then at every creek, and water spigot, take the shirt and hat off, soak both, and put them back on. Keeping your core body temp down(normal) when in the Canyon is primary!! Once your core temp goes up, you really start to feel bad. Lastly, lighter shoes. Trail running shoes, or even better, minimalist shoes like Merrell Trail Gloves, Vapor Gloves, Vivo Barefoot Primus, Zero Shoes, etc. You'll be amazed at how great they feel, how much traction you have, no tendency to roll your ankles in awkward technical terrain, and especially for Stephanie, no more knee pain.
You guys killed it, and Stephanie! You're a machine!!

I did this with my sons in April a couple of years ago. It was fabulous. Water was running some and the plants were in bloom. Same trail you took, but we overnighted at Phantom Ranch and Havasupai Gardens. We may try this again in a couple of years when my grandsons are older. @@CJHealthyLife

Hello Judy, Happy you enjoyed the video and thank you for the compliment. We did this hike in May 2021. At the time I used an iPhone 11 and a GoPro 8. You can clip a go pro to your backpack strap or wear a shoulder harness as you may have seen in my video. They are very easy to use and simple. I had my iPhone set at 60 fps. This higher frames per second setting helps to make your video smoother when you video side to side. And the GoPro has a stabilization feature built-in which takes out a lot of the shakiness when walking. If you are interested I also have another video on my channel from our May 2022 rim to rim hike. I wish you all the best on your hike!
      God bless! Chris

@@CJHealthyLife we are going May 13th and hiking down the 16th. We wanted to do rim2rim but the north side is closed until June 2 due to snow & rockfall this year. I think South Kaibab to Bright Angel will be just as good and it’s shorter! What microphone did you use? I’ve watched others and the wind makes videos terrible. Yours was clear as a bell! I’ll watch the other video you made.

    • @CJHealthyLife

@@judykrodel7990 Judy the microphone I used was just a cheap $25 model that plugged into the end of my phone. The GoPro sound is straight into the camera with no external mic. I think the scenery going down south Kaibab is the best so I believe you will have an excellent time! Please let me know if you have any other questions
