I’ve loved Tori for at least 30 years, and will never stop appreciating her genius, her unusual lyrical candor, her integrity, and her mind-boggling musical talent. Her music was groundbreaking back then, giving a voice to women through music like few others. I still find that voice relevant even now. It’s like the #metoo movement took 30 years to catch up with her! Love you always Tori! 💖

"Leather" speaks to her own continued relationship with someone whose heart isn't in it. The "hand me my leather" implies HER OWN consensual masochism ("I can't claim innocence", "Why am i Here?") in an attachment that is not reciprocal. The leather is a pun on both weather/wearing a coat/having a protective shield but also, simultaneously, "leather"=the whip, the pain of being in a relationship where she knows she is not loved. She is between a rock and a hard place because she can't walk away from the (tainted, limited) pleasure she gets out of the relationship.
I think the song (and the album, most of it) are about her own career. This own is about her having to do a song thats more provocative in order for the record label to accept her as a musician.

At the risk of offending someone I must say she is so beautiful and sensual. Her talent and her stage presence are icing on the cake. I’m in love with her and her voice!!
