99% of Protein Bars Are Actually Pretty Sketchy [Here's Why]

  • Not an actual stat... but a rough estimation of what I've seen in the health field from my experience as a Nutritionist. It's very rare that I see a protein bar that I would feel comfortable recommending to my clients, let alone consuming myself. To be honest, I was pretty nervous about making this video because I know that it won't be popular with most people and it's not something anyone wants to hear. BUT I've made it my mission to provide you REAL, HONEST information (without worrying about people/companies I might upset) so that you can live a life where you feel GOOD. That's the most important thing to me - making sure you feel good. And these protein bars (or most protein bars, rather) are most likely not making you feel good. You might THINK they are, but once you get rid of them, you'll notice a ton of positive changes to your body.
Today I'm sharing the details of why most protein bars are really just cleverly marketed candy bars and should not be part of your wellness routine.

If I eat a protein bar, it has to have:
-At least a 10:1 calorie to protein ratio
    -doesn’t really taste too good
    -little to no sugar
Simply protein bars are pretty decent for that to my recollection but that’s just my opinion. If I’m really desperate for a snack or sugar, I buy a protein bar instead of junk food. Keeps me from doing worse.

okay the only thing is that she demonizes sugar... i understand spiking your insulin and glucose levels r not good but sometimes some quick cleaner sources of sugar (such as dates) after my workouts help me recover until i shortly after have a balanced meal

    • @crazyhb4
      @crazyhb4 3 роки тому +2

      Exactly.
I completely understand watching your sugar intake and insulin spikes if you have an underlying condition, but if you dont, its really not that serious.
Youre not gonna gain weight if you eat a bar with somewhat high sugar (which most really aren’t) as long as youre in a calorie deficit

Quick question… I know that you’re referring to protein bars in this video, but what is your thought on regular proteins such as iso 100, or quest? And furthermore my question is how does protein powder really affect your body? I eat a lot of protein powder in different foods and shakes throughout the course of the day. I just really like the way that it tastes. My protein is really high overall and I feel very bloated often. I also eat a lot of Jell-O though. Do you think it’s a combination of these two, thank you for your time in advance.

I just subscribed to your channel yesterday and i'm aspiring to cut out sugar/carbs out of my diet with the exception of protein bars to give me a little crutch to ease into my dietary changes.. I bought 4 boxes of protein bars to snack on (in conjunction with keto beef jerky that has 0 carbs and 0 sugars and pumpkin seeds), but now i have to cut out protein bars, or maybe just eat one a day. I'm so bad at this eating healthy thing lol but i'm still motivated to eat healthy! And like you said in the beginning, this will force me to focus on my meals as my primary source of nutrition/being full.

Actually there are healthy protein bars out there but the problem is when they have 2 g of sugar or more in it that’s not healthy that’s totally downright disgusting. But I have found a protein bar that actually is called; ONE, comes from Charlotte NC, it comes in flavours of glazed doughnut, birthday cake, mud pie, cinnamon bun. One has 20 g of protein and only 1 g of sugar. When any weight loss programs include the actual food that has sugar in it tells you how you can implement it into your diet the problem is no you can’t people who think they can still lose weight and still have their piece of chocolate no you can’t there’s a certain way you can do this because that’s the craving people always want is the sugar is the problem but there are ways around it. Another product is called; QUEST protein cookie and its from California, it has 15 g of protein and comes in 1 g sugar and 12 g fiber. Another product is called, BCAA Splash Gummies, they have 2 g protein, 0 g sugar and 3 g fiber.

Overall protein bars are just a sugar bomb, and it is ok if you want to have one once in a while but they are not real food. The best bar that I have found is the refrigerated perfect bar sweetened with only honey and it has plenty of really good ingredients. I only utilize it when I travel the rest of the time just make a protein smoothie with some good protein powder and berries, personally I use the Sunwarrior vanilla because whey does not play good with my insides.

Okay, so here's something I wonder. There's reading and then there's experiencing. What I wasn't seeing here was the experiencing. Did you try these bars with a regular days work and working out?
When you used the reeeses pieces example. Come on now? Really dude? Sugar source is a big skip over here. Ingredients in the reeeses vs the Gomacro is a huge difference. You fail to mention that. You're a professional too. I was so surprised to see you would do that.
It's okay to state your opinion, but you shouldn't use 10 grams of sugar from the worst of the worse ingredients as in with the reeeses 10 grams of sugar vs the positive 14 grams of sugar from the gomacro.
I ate those gomacro bars for two years. They were amazing. I'm a male and I'm 6'4 220lbs. That bar saved me so many times. Starting work at 6a.m, lunch at 12:30pm and doing an hour or so of cardio by 6pm at the gym, not getting home until 7:30pm and up again at 4:45a.m.
This is all taking public transportation and dealing with city life. The discipline and the ability to not binge or fall asleep as soon as I got home at about 4:30p.m was through the state of satiety that gomacro bar gave me. For those of us who work 5days a week. Most of our sugar source is dillutes and fatigued by days end. Getting to the gym and committing to excersize is really hard.
The gomacro and what it does for your body towards the end of the day and the in between of work and gym is better than anything I have ever had. It was amazing what it did to keep me good. Here's how I know that? I TRIED THE BAR BEFORE I MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT!!!
Don't pay my big bad capital letters any mind. You're a professional so you already had my respect. I can't help but notice that female nutrionists will often report without experiencing. That doesn't make sense to me. Reading is not enough. One must experience, otherwise they shouldn't be giving public opinion and reporting as if they did, right?
I've never been to Paris, France but I can speak French and have eaten most of their food and know most of their history. I can tell you almost everything about the city from what I've read, but I've never actually been their or experienced the city myself. I couldn't tell you how the city made me feel,, how it smelled or give you my own particular take on the croissant capital of the world. My opinion and knowledge is still partially flawed.
If you did actually eat and do a normal days function and excersize with all the bars you're throwing shade at. I apologize. The whole point to this is to put yourself in the consumers shoes. My experience and my day to day is as average of a regular person day to day as it gets. And that's why I'm the greatest ever.. Deuces ✌🏿

This is the issue with nutritionists and dietitians , instead of educating their patients on energy balance and the intricacies of CICO you all just focus on demonizing sugar and falling for organic , non gmo and nonsense branding . It would be way more beneficial to educate your clients on how to become self sufficient in creating diets for themselves . Show them how to manipulate recipes they like so that they can understand how to substitute high calorie low nutrient dense foods for low calorie high protein high fiber alternatives. So they can actually ADHERE . In short stop majoring in the minors .

@@bbjudyfit I don't think that includes the added sugars though. So in total usually 10+ grams of sugar. Which is not the worst but it's also not good. Also, that's a good handful of salt. Idk, I'm not a nutritionist but if my teeth hurt when I eat them, I know to avoid them lol

30stmFantasy the food industry in general has SO. MANY. Marketers that know how to get us to use their products. Bars are just one great example. It’s definitely not your fault for seeing bars as a healthy alternative to a breakfast, and it’s fantastic that you are watching videos like this to help give your body what it wants and needs! 🙌🏻 thanks for watching!

What's wrong with replacing Breakfast with a Perfect Bar?? The Ingredients look great, enough calories to replace a meal. Yes 18g of sugar but it's natural sourced. Which would be waaaay better for a child than a bowl of artificial sugary cereal. It's also a great alternative for adults who eats loads of carbs (Muffins, pancakes, bagels...) at least you're getting tons of nutrients that you weren't getting before! This is where your own personal discernment would come in. Everyone is different.
