Good Morning Eira, another Beautiful Video that's much needed. Thanks for sharing your grounded, and Amazing life with us. I definitely look forward to your posts, and please keep up the great work!
Just discovered your channel from Age of the North. Such a great atmosphere and vibe to this channel. Thanks for being here for us. Whatever you are doing, don't stop. This is what UA-cam was always about.
My grandfather used to make these. Unfortunately the know-how was not passed on to anyone in the family. When he was still alive, I'd randomly taken a branch from his willow tree, with the intention of planting it in my parents' garden, and it shot up in a very short amount of time. It's since been cut down and replanted, and grew back once again in a matter of a year or so. Now, many years later, I have set out to figure out this craft for myself, and somehow, carry on the tradition of my grandparents, with one of their own trees, no less :)
Do you think there is any benefit to soaking the branches in water overnight or thereabouts to make them more pliable? Willow is very wet to start with, but maybe it helps avoid cracking or folding in unwanted places?
There are different types of willow. So therefor there are several ways to make a basket as the different types have different traits. And yes soaking should make the willow more pliable, but I havn't tried it myself.
@@EiraCraftandNature Thank you for your reply. Most willow trees near me are planted weeping willow. There is also pussy willow. An ice storm with heavy wet snow the spring before last brought down most of our local weeping willows. If I had thought about it, there was about a thousand baskets worth of slash people were just begging to get rid of :(.
I have tried similar things but I'm not very good,Waching this is really going to help. Thank you to you and Bjorn for cool content with genuine practical application in life. This type of crafts should be taught in school's.

You're back! I could use a basket or two like that for the garden, growing like mad this year. It keeps me out of trouble 😉 Take care.
Thanks Terry, that's good to hear!
Very interesting! How do you fix the handle in the bottom?
Hi Eira , came over on the recommendation of Bjorn andreas Bull hansen .
Muito bom. Que cipó é este que usou?
Neat
Delicate work only a woman can accomplish.
Do you not need to dry them out and soak them then? 🤔
It would be nice to make something with all the pecan trees that try to grow everywhere...
pecans are gold :p
@@lilcricket4379 The wild pecan trees make little scrawny pecans. The wood is divine.
Nice, have never seen one.

It appeared, she cut, then used. Didn't seem like they needed to be any weaker and water may not even work to soften.
