    My grandfather used to make these. Unfortunately the know-how was not passed on to anyone in the family.
    When he was still alive, I'd randomly taken a branch from his willow tree, with the intention of planting it in my parents' garden, and it shot up in a very short amount of time. It's since been cut down and replanted, and grew back once again in a matter of a year or so.
    Now, many years later, I have set out to figure out this craft for myself, and somehow, carry on the tradition of my grandparents, with one of their own trees, no less :)

    Do you think there is any benefit to soaking the branches in water overnight or thereabouts to make them more pliable? Willow is very wet to start with, but maybe it helps avoid cracking or folding in unwanted places?

    • @lightdark00
      @lightdark00 3 роки тому

      It appeared, she cut, then used. Didn't seem like they needed to be any weaker and water may not even work to soften.

    • @EiraCraftandNature
      @EiraCraftandNature  3 роки тому +1

      There are different types of willow. So therefor there are several ways to make a basket as the different types have different traits. And yes soaking should make the willow more pliable, but I havn't tried it myself.

    • @upcycle.outdoorsman9629

      @@EiraCraftandNature Thank you for your reply. Most willow trees near me are planted weeping willow. There is also pussy willow. An ice storm with heavy wet snow the spring before last brought down most of our local weeping willows. If I had thought about it, there was about a thousand baskets worth of slash people were just begging to get rid of :(.
