That's why chat bubbles should be officially added lol, it would make chatting much more noticable. It's easy to miss chat when it's located in the corner of your screen.

Keep in mind that free trial players can't /tell, and sprouts may not understand what that is in general. Might be part of the reason why people weren't talking :D
They should allow trial players to reply if they received a tell from someone.
Yea I would end up having to find people who sent me tells and tell them "I can't join your FC, and I can't send tells I'm on the trial." Which honestly I wonder if that was more rude than just ignoring it sometimes. x.x
I think what makes it tougher to communicate in passive channels like say is I might not realize someone is chatting with me. I'm surprised chat bubbles aren't a thing vanilla because they are so helpful.
this is why I have a separate chat tab for "social" stuff that lights up when someone says something or there is FC chat.
He was sending them private tells. But also a lot of sprouts don't know how to send a tell either haha
I came to say this exactly. I just noticed, after reaching lvl 35, that the game has no chastc bubbles, and that people had probably tried to talk to me in one way or another... Sadge
The devs kept insisting they won't... for more than 7 years now.
@@Mouse-go3gc You cant send tells on a free account which a lot of new sprouts are probably on, thats the main reason why they dont respond
I'm a sprout that started just a couple weeks ago and now that I know how friendly this community is, I feel bad for not talking more lol. Frankly, it's a natural gamer instinct to expect ppl to be jerks so I tend to avoid talking to players unless necessary.
Many many many instances have been documented of people being banned for really trivial stuff, so I would talk a lot as a sprout and no one would ever say anything because of the fear of being banned. They dont want people to bully sprouts so they give them better security, so people just end up not talking at all, silent as a graveyard.
Eh it's fine. I spent a long time playing by myself. When you find a community it'll be easier. Joined an FC and now feel like I'm making friends.
Cid is cool dude, not that I have crush on him or anything.

Nah if you want sprouts, you have to go to The Waking Sands out by Horizon. Idk if Stormblood and onwards ever goes back there, but once the scions move they pretty much abandon the place.
So that would be a guaranteed sprout place. Meanwhile Mor Dhona is purely for the story, everyone usually shows up and leave, or get something and then leave.
Oh and Costa Del Sol, Outside of event stuff, There's not really any good reason to go there except for a good place to afk for a quick break. Plus it's home to the longest bit of filler in ARR.

Literally no one ever talked to me as a sprout, then I found out its because of the fear of being banned for "insulting a sprout" so they just say nothing at all, kind of sad to be honest.
I mean even in-universe Cid is considered handsome. Even Gerolt considers him attractive.

Sprouts make the best of friends lol I love seeing how excited they are about taking on content that people haven’t been very excited about in a long time.(Older content, etc)
Honestly, one thing I love the community for is how anti-spoiler they are at large. Like...I have seen more people not just preventing spoilers but scorning those who would than trying to spoil by miles.

Started playing FF not too long ago. I bought it about a couple years ago and kind of been playing on and off and just now finished arr! I'm very excited for heavensward, i know everyone kept saying wait til you get to hw, but i really did like the story for arr. :) just some input from a sprout, even though im a bit late.

Most sprouts are probably not using addons for chat bubbles so they are harder to notice. Whispers are more reliable since it also has a sound notification by default. Plus they probably left their characters in cities while they were busy doing RL stuff.
I remember someone saying that the reason the XIV community is so "nice" compared to others is because in other games, you have all these seperate communities, and in XIV, it's just one - the horny one. Because everyone who plays this game is.
....and the Cid-thirsty sprout just proved that right 🤣

The real reason is the philosophy of the developers actually. The senior devs have played many other MMO's, plus add the fact that Japanese are usually always polite and reserved, they ENFORCE the nice behavior within the community because they are aware that if the devs dont put their foot down you end up with toxic community like wow.

i finished the entirety of the game, endwalker included and still had the sprout on my head, idk how to get rid of it, it recently disappeared for unknown reasons. What makes me a sprout and what makes it go away? xD
FFXIV was my first MMO, and I was too used to co-op in games w/o voice chat. When people would emote or tell @ me, it's ingrained in me to just jump or spin in place in response. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with sprouts who get anxious over chat
I walked around hyperion limsa plaza during easter event one year, and ask if people wanted a hard boiled egg. More then a few took it. it was great. I was kitted out in bunny outfit. This has similuar vibes.
I remember a high level player was asking me stuff and because I didn't know how to talk back I panicked and logged out.
I was in a kind of low mood when I came across this video and realized I was genuinely laughing aloud at a few comments. Thanks, man.

I myself am a sprout and just started this week. I am excited for the dancer class. I am a level 19 lancer class on adamantoise called Sirex Silversong.
Sprouts have a hard time figuring out /tell for the first time.
I have over 870 hours of playtime and still a sprout. The system is flawed. Not all 'sprouts' are sprouts.
Some can't even use tell if they're on the trial

I am so used to ppl messing with me in game and sometimes IRL that I didn't begin speaking to my guild until like 3 months in. lol. They're a great group!

I had to laugh at the non-response, but recently found out that if someone is on the free trial they are limited to some of their interactions such as they can't respond to /tell. Though it makes for some hilarious content. 😂 All hail Daddy Cid!

I didn't know about the free trial when I started back in July 2021; I've been paying for the subscription since I started. They really need to advertise it better.
Started for real about last month, the only thing I wish I was better at is finding a more solid group to do extremes and higher end content, but my availability is weird

No chat bubbles is super jarring. Coming from WoW, I never knew if someone was talking to me or who was talking to who in town. I would've love to answer your questions, but would probably not have seen it.
A few nights every week i take whatever gil I made and whatever i can from GC trade ins and don my special glam, The Lucky Chicken of Gridania. I welcome sprouts to the game, give them some nice gifts in the form of minions and mounts and see if they need anything. People on my server have no begun donating gil and items towards this endeavour and it has honestly made it a better place overall.
why are chat bubbles not in the game by default? i dont want to have to install addons to comfortably chat, thats ridiculous. i honestly dont understand why a mmo these days, would not have such a basic feature. or do they just tell ppl to not use addons in this game, but then rely on them to not needing to add features like that themselves? like, seriously, whats the reason.

I occasionally went to run around starter zones during rain and hunt down sprouts (without veteran rewards or anything indicating them being alts),
so that I could tell them to be careful and not catch a cold. I would trade them an umbrella, and it is surprising how terrible the results were.
Some simply ignored me, while others did acknowledge me through that brought the situation to another hurdle.
Many could not type since they were on a trial, so trading was out of the question, and the few I actually managed to give an umbrella to..
Well let's say 1 out of 3 would actually use it and wear it even for a second, the rest would just say "thanx" and run lol.
But I understand why this is happening. They are in a whole new world, likely overwhelmed or excited about playing, perhaps even intimidated by high level players.
We were all sprouts once!
I hunt for sprouts with some friends dressed as chocobos to give away minions and other stuff, I had a mostly positive experience and even made some friends that way. Some just need reassurance that it is in fact, a gift, and you do not want anything in return and they will gladly accept it and thank you. The few negative experiences I had were with people who turned out to be old players with their alts, one even threatened to report me for trying to give him a minion, a mount, and a few cookies...

The funny thing about the sprout icon is it means nothing. Anyone can hit level cap I did it and I still don't know wtf I'm doing like it's really a terrible new player system I want to actually be tested that I know what I'm doing before the new player icon is taken from me.
So, Im a sprout level 65, and I love this game so much already. But why on Earth would they not have chat bubbles? Like seriously, what is the Logic? Its such a joke to me that you will be banned for downloadning an addon to get chat bubbles. Its really hard to miss what people say, as a new player. And all of this rp going on, it would be much easier to see who’s talking and from where….
Will I get banned if I get the addon for it? I really want chat bubbles. This is probably the only mmorpg in the world who does not have it and its so weird…

As a sprout that has asked my fc elders a million questions and has been watching guides and stuff, I feel like I have a better grasp of some of the game than some of these vets. As a sprout sometimes I have to explain boss mechanics to players who should know what the hell theyre doing because theyve played the game a lot longer than I have. I may be new but Ive spent a lot of time trying to learn everything in the game, and some people cleary have made no effort to learn the game at all.
They probably have no idea what they are doing because they're used to late game content and not older stuff 😂
Like me for example I'm mostly stuck doing Shadowbringers/Endwalker dungeon/trails/raids so when I get shoved into a ARR or Heavensward duty I'm like "Oh shit what do I have to do again" and thankfully someone will explain it
Real talk I’ve been a returning player since 2.0. stuck in a loop bc things keep changing and the game I leave ain’t the one I return to.
As a Destiny 2 refugee I approve of that one sprout
as a sprout myself, if i saw a lalafell walking around giving sprouts surveys, i would probably ignore them too.

It's an addon you can download. Unfortunately it's not in the actual game

I’m a sprout and I always want to talk to more experienced players. But I’m on PS4 and don’t shave a keyboard setup. 😭

They can use the say and party chats, but they can't use the tell or shout options.
Being a new player…. No just any game in general. Why do people turn on their video games just to AFK. It’s a cycle of autism. It’s not just MMO. First person shooters have been getting AFKers, there is littiraly a Mobil game called AFK arena.
I want to make a program, that takes all the people who AFK regularly, like people who will stay idle for bourse on end, and throw them in a digital jail. And they can only leave after 5 hours. They have to be active in game for 5 hours in order to get out. When they are released they are plopped in the most isolated location in the game with teleports turned off. So they need to run back to where ever they came from. If the get jailed 3 times, their account gets band. Now you I order to be jailed you need to have AFKed for over three hours a day for 4 days straight. You can log out at any time without any consequences and if you don’t idle for one of thoughs days, the timer resets. So I’m not being unfair here.
If you do get band a title comes up saying “clog some one else’s servers”

Dude a lot of ppl don’t know about the chat log…lol I thought it was literally a damage and action log up to like level 45
If they're wearing veterans rewards like the Cloud or Squall outfit, they are not sprouts. They're alts
If they're wearing the Cloud outfit they could still be beginners who just bought 1x 60 day time card off of Squares site and redeemed it
I’ve got firion’s outfit and I’m still a “sprout” - only post-hw despite playing for several months. Just do lots of side content! The sprout identifier definitely has a ton of breadth but all the sprouts deserve care and support ☺️
