That was Suzuka East layout that NASCAR used for exhibition races from 1996-1997 if you play NASCAR 99 or something then Motegi oval will probably be in it cause NASCAR raced on Motegi oval for 19998 exhibition race. Oh there’s also a collectors edition of NASCAR 98
This was the game that made me a NASCAR fan. Used to play a race everyday with my dad in the evening. It would get so heated at times my Mom would take the game away from us both 😅 Edit: best memory was us racing to see who could wreck Gordon first
amen bro, this was my first nascar game too, I was 4 lol, playing this game with my dad is the reason I'm a nascar fan too. He was a gordon fan and I was a bobby labonte fan and I'd hit him with the paintballs. The good ole' days when games were playable.
In the old games, they were able to put Winston cup in text and even in the prerace segments in thunder 03-04, they just couldn’t use the logo for brand recognition
The good ole snap oversteer late in the runs was a Haulmark of the early EA days. It seemed like EA only got licensing from the SMI tracks, but not the ISC tracks for some reason until later on in the series.
It’s sad when an old game like this has a track map, rear view mirror, and a fuel meter, but Ignition couldn’t do this. Granted they did show the fuel and tire wear later on, but it wasn’t in the game at launch.
That Sears Point layout is with the carousel. NASCAR briefly returned to it in the late 2010s. NASCAR ran two exhibition races on one of the Suzuka short courses.
If you start the race and press start go into the race statistics screen and double click R1,R2 and L1,L2 all at the same time you will hear an engine rev sound then when you exit and go back to racing you can tap the triangle button while racing and your car will shoot paintballs at the cars in front of you making them spin...
Nascar 98 is the 1st and only nascar game officially that you can race on the original atlanta configuration before it was reconfigured to the current atlanta of today
Dad had a PS1 I played on alot as a kid. He had this and Nascar 2000. Used to play both a lot before I got the GameCube and Thunder '03. Been literally 20 years, still the best
Do you think you could do a sort of grab bag of games for a video? Like a bunch of obscure ones that are interesting but don’t have enough content to make a whole video on. Some examples I thought of off the top of my head was that one craftsman’s truck pc game and the gameboy advance version of nascar heat 2002
The reason Daytona wasn't in NASCAR '98 was because the owners of the track gave Sega the naming and licensing rights to it for it for their game Daytona USA. BTW you gotta try out the original arcade version of Daytona USA it a fun arcade racer.
Makes sense if it was because of Daytona USA (even though they didn't use the track itself). Suzuka also marked the very first time ever the Cup Series ran on rain tires (even though it was just practice)
No Daytona due to SEGA Licensing. No Daytona in the first few NR games either. Also: -NASCAR ran the short course at Suzuka in 96 and 97, then the Motegi Oval in 1998. -This game was released with a Richard Petty car replacing the 43 in game -There are two hidden paint schemes, one for EA Sports and one for Pinnacle. You need a cheat code to get them. -Atlanta, Michigan, California, Texas, Talladega, Sears Point, Watkins Glen, Bristol, Charlotte, Pocono, and Suzuka were all of the real world tracks in the game. This also features Pre-Modern Atlanta, and the old Sears Point layout. Texas and California had their Inaugural race in 1997. -24 Drivers were featured in the game from the 1997 season. Rusty and Craven were sponsored by their Team, while in next instalments, "Rusty Wallace", "Dale Jr", "Sterling Marlin" were all the beer cars. -This game uses the same engine as "Andretti Racing" Which featured both CART and NASCAR drivers, and a select few tracks that would be reused in NASCAR 98.
The first NASCAR game I ever owned/played & on this console. That, NHL '98, Madden '98, & Triple Play '98 among some of my favorite games on the console.
I wanna see you play more of this game my man Radman love your entertainment to bro an it’s been so long since I played this game an you played my favorite driver of all time Dale sr an Jeff my second favorite ever I love your channel an your videos my man
i remember being sick and was out of school for a few days so i rented nascar 98 and street fighter and i played nascar 98 for 3 days straight i was in like 6th or 7th grade LOL
Please do the championship series and pick dale again! I grew up playing this game on the Nintendo 64 and it's so good! You have to actually setup your car for each track. that's why you can't beat any track right now lol
Daytona didn’t give up it’s licensing rights until the early 2000’s. I can’t remember which one exactly but I believe it was Thunder 2002. It wasn’t even in the earlier Papyrus games.
The car tuning was pretty important in this game, especially on arcade physics because your downforce affected speed and cornering so much. Talladega in particular is all about running as little downforce as possible whole still maintaining control.
The Nascar games always was weird with the use of Winston cup the announcers in Nascar thunder 03 and 04 will say Winston cup but the logo is just Nascar cup series which is actually crazy to me because that's what it's called today lol
Thats not all the drivers at least for the PS1 edition that had inter year updates for 98 and 99 98 is CE and 99 i think is heritage and i know nascar 99 and 2000 where on the N64
I think the reason Daytona isn't in the game is because the track had a deal with SEGA for the Arcade game Daytona USA so Daytona is absent in NASCAR 98, 99, and 2000 it wouldn't be until NASCAR 2001 when Daytona will be in a NASCAR Game
Heck yeah!!! My first console was the ole Nintendo. My goal to try to own a copy of every nascar game. My latest find was Bill Elliot Nintendo game. The good ole games of nascar ❤️
The first Nascar console game I ever owned. I remember using the paintball mode cheat and shooting cars off the track.
man so many good memories
I could never figure out how to do it when I was younger haha
Same.
such a goated game
@@matteng1448 honestly one of the easiest cheats. Ever l1+l2+r1+r2+triangle all at the same time twice fast in pause menu during any race
Need to try out the paintball mode in this game and/or causing massive pileups going backwards. Had so much fun with this one growing up.
That Molly Hatchet song brings back so many memories of playing this game. I was 16. Yep, I'm old
Only good thing about the rain delay is this
Fr

What was included in the Collector's Edition?
@@yungsagegaming8577a different intro. Richard Petty was playable and Darlington was added
Ah yes, NASCAR will race at Motegi 17,974 years from now
Also a medal of the 50th Anniversary emblem in sterling silver @DD-373
This was the game that made me a NASCAR fan. Used to play a race everyday with my dad in the evening. It would get so heated at times my Mom would take the game away from us both 😅

In the old games, they were able to put Winston cup in text and even in the prerace segments in thunder 03-04, they just couldn’t use the logo for brand recognition
And they couldn’t use the Busch logo from 05-09, but in 05 and 06 exclusively, Bill Weber does say Busch.
You want the ultimate challenge? Try and beat PRIME Jeff Gordon on this games season mode
Daytona wasnt used in any nascar games up until NASCAR 2001 because SEGA held licensing rights due to their arcade game "Daytona USA"
Do a series where you do a season on every NASCAR game in chronological order. Call it the Radman all encompassing career
yes
This would take forever
Petition for radman to make a season mode series on this legendary game
He should try and beat prime Jeff Gordon
Jeff, Mark, Terry, and Dale were tough to beat on season mode
The good ole snap oversteer late in the runs was a Haulmark of the early EA days. It seemed like EA only got licensing from the SMI tracks, but not the ISC tracks for some reason until later on in the series.
My childhood was spent on this game using the paintball cheat to put Jeff Gordon out of every single race. 😂
That would be the ONLY way to stop Gordon in the late 90’s
It’s sad when an old game like this has a track map, rear view mirror, and a fuel meter, but Ignition couldn’t do this. Granted they did show the fuel and tire wear later on, but it wasn’t in the game at launch.
This game along with F1 98 & FIFA 98: Road to the World Cup were my absolute favorites on the PS1 at that time as a 3 year old.
My first NASCAR game. Loved it to death! As a Jeff Gordon fan, I loved playing as him in the rainbow car and winning.
Perfect timing during the rain delay
That Sears Point layout is with the carousel. NASCAR briefly returned to it in the late 2010s.
NASCAR ran two exhibition races on one of the Suzuka short courses.
Now we just have to wait for him to play nascar 2001 and nascar thunder 2002
In 96 and 97 NASCAR did hold exhibition races on the East Portion of Sazuka.
So much nostalgia from this. My first system was a PS1 and I played this slot as The Intimidator
If you start the race and press start go into the race statistics screen and double click R1,R2 and L1,L2 all at the same time you will hear an engine rev sound then when you exit and go back to racing you can tap the triangle button while racing and your car will shoot paintballs at the cars in front of you making them spin...
Oh my God I felt so old when he said this game was made when he was born. This was my first nascar game ever. Got it on my birthday along with a PS1.
This game instilled my love of Nascar when I was 5...also Molly Hatchet 😂
A season mode on this game one day would be great. Had a blast playing it back in the day. Was always tough beating Jeff Terry & Mark
fun fact . if you hold triangle while in the virtual cockpit your driver waves his hand .
Hmmm I always did it thinking you were flipping off the other drivers lol, who knew
Nascar 98 is the 1st and only nascar game officially that you can race on the original atlanta configuration before it was reconfigured to the current atlanta of today
When NASCAR 98 came out Daytona USA had the exclusive game rights to Daytona
The nostalgia of turning the tv to channel 3 and turning the N64 on to play this game all day 😂
This was the first game I got for PSone in 1997. I was so excited to play this and would purposely wreck Dale Sr to make my mother mad.
Bro, I remember playing this one back in the day lol. Radman taking it way back!
Ah, the lovely dose of nostalgia I just got... This was one of the first games I ever played back on PS1 when I was 5.
Need to see your reaction to the intro to this game! Greatest racing intro ever!
Yes! I've been waiting for him to play this
Ahhh, I'll always remember the opening of nascar 98 and flirting with disaster by molly hatchet.
Bro it's raining thank you for posting !
Dad had a PS1 I played on alot as a kid. He had this and Nascar 2000. Used to play both a lot before I got the GameCube and Thunder '03. Been literally 20 years, still the best
You missed the opening up music. So good!!
I love those "diamond" hats, shown with Ernie Irvin in this game!
This game was my first nascar game and damn near my first playstation game I got!
I remember as just a little boy playing this game with my grandpa on PS1.
Thats ole David Green in the Catepillar 96
Oh the nostalgia of this I actually had this game growing up! An anyone remember the nascar heat PS2 version
My first racing game was Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II on the Game Gear. First NASCAR game was NASCAR Racing on PC. I’m old.
There is a code for paintball mode. R1 R2 L1 L2 at the same time until you hear an engine rev
An easy but cheap win in this game. Go to Bristol, setup the car to have the max handling you can give it. Then just run flat out around the track.
Who else had the 50th anniversary edition with Richard Petty on the cover? You could use his car and the game had Darlington
You have a mirror and you can wave to the crowd if I remember correctly it was Triangle. I'd wave the entire last lap if I was winning cause I could

I bought this game for my Saturn because the rest of the collection looked lonely.
i remember being sick and was out of school for a few days so i rented nascar 98 and street fighter and i played nascar 98 for 3 days straight i was in like 6th or 7th grade LOL

I have played this once. My step dad still has it.played it on one of his things.
This was the first ever nascar game I played all the way back in 1998 lol I was 4 the good ole days !!
I grew up with nascar 99 and 2000 on ps1
The car tuning was pretty important in this game, especially on arcade physics because your downforce affected speed and cornering so much. Talladega in particular is all about running as little downforce as possible whole still maintaining control.
7:00 gotta do a 69% race came to my mind there
we need a season mode lol. i think it would be a lot of fun
I think Larry Mac was Earnhardts crew chief when this game came out
Yeah I don’t think Hammond ever was crew chief for sr
You forgot they went to Japan from 96 to 98 with Cup and 99 with the West series!
This was my childhood here
The Nascar games always was weird with the use of Winston cup the announcers in Nascar thunder 03 and 04 will say Winston cup but the logo is just Nascar cup series which is actually crazy to me because that's what it's called today lol
Only bad thing about this game was that it didnt have all the tracks like Daytona Darlington Richmond Rockingham etc
My first console was ps1, loved nascar 99 gran turismo 2 and crash team racing. WOO
This and dirt to Daytona are my favorite early nascar games
First game I got with my ps1. Molly hatchet flirting with disaster is engraved in my brain from this game
NASCAR 2001 was the first NASCAR console game to feature Daytona
holy nostalgia i used to play this w my dad when i was a kid on my ps1😅
How do you turn vibration on?😊
Thats not all the drivers at least for the PS1 edition that had inter year updates for 98 and 99 98 is CE and 99 i think is heritage and i know nascar 99 and 2000 where on the N64
The best rain delay time filler
I think the reason Daytona isn't in the game is because the track had a deal with SEGA for the Arcade game Daytona USA so Daytona is absent in NASCAR 98, 99, and 2000 it wouldn't be until NASCAR 2001 when Daytona will be in a NASCAR Game
Daytona was not in because SEGA had the rights for Daytona USA!
Man, racing games used to be so good
Daytona didnt get license until the 2001 game and this is the only console game with old old atlanta, as 99 went into the atlanta weve known
98 was awsome the paintball code man!!!!!
there is a mirror in this game i remember that cause i have this game also and ik there's a mirror in this game
Ohh the dang Nostalgia of this
Heck yeah!!! My first console was the ole Nintendo. My goal to try to own a copy of every nascar game. My latest find was Bill Elliot Nintendo game. The good ole games of nascar ❤️
What's up with Nascar Heat 5 2022 update you said it's coming
Daytona USA came out on the Saturn a year or so before, i think they had exculsive rights (SEGA)
My first Nascar game. I loved this game.
There’s a mirror in the game don’t member what button u gotta push though
This was my first nascar game
Still got it for ps1 ! Classic
You should race at all the tracks
NASCAR HEAT Brought Us Daytona
I still have nascar 99 and nascar 2000 for ps1

You should play the Papyrus NASCAR game for ps1
I loved this game! Paintball for the win!
my first NASCAR game ever.
Also I’m shocked it had side drafting 😂
I have Nascar 99 for the N64
