One of my first games on the PS, gotta love the nostalgia!
Ohhhhh heey now I had this game too, and also I still have my ps2 and Ford racing 2 in running condition.
i loved going in reverse like a complete piece of trash
Plus I’d love to see this game remastered on today’s hardware
Did you ever try the paintball cheat code?
Same. Lol definitely good times
Does anyone remember the cheat code for "paintball mode" when u can shoot paintballs at other cars and make them crash. Good times Good times😌
I'm pretty sure this, right here, is >90% why the triangle button on my PS1 controller wore out 😁
best part of the game
That shit was soooooooo fun!!! Lol
The triangle button was never off
I love that this is the top comment. This cheat code was the only way I was able to compete in the road courses lmao
That intro makes me want to grow a mullet and drive fast in an El Camino.
a mullet just for the neck
Holy shit, this music brings back so many memories.
It did for me as well!
Ah man, this makes me miss the days of staying up late as a kid playing games like Triple Play 2000 and Need For Speed High Stakes on our old Compaq Presario, Windows ME. It's crazy to think that the graphics were so good for back in the day, and now we think graphics are phenomenal of new games. I really can't wait to see how graphics improve in 20 years! Thanks for the throwback, Zach!
Triple Play baseball, where you could have a team of mutants where one guy had a bat the size of a tree that could bunt home runs. or the human torch, or the flash, or even a guy with a big head.
Ah the ol presario…motocross madness…delta force…rocky mt trophy hunter…and yahoo chat…round 96-98 if i remember
That intro got me. Glad to have you back Zach! ❤❤❤
Played this game so much. I was 12 when this came out, so much nostalgic goodness
That means you're vintage now
I was trying to remember what NASCAR game had that song. Thank you for this Zach. Glad to have you back too. I've missed watching your videos.
The second i clicked on the vid I started singing the intro. It’s amazing how after so long the memory takes over like that. Also I was a Rusty fan.
Thank you so much for this! Just hearing that initial PlayStation noise at the very beginning brought back all the feels.. So many great memories of a simpler time. Friday night, no school in the morning, buzzed on Surge and Pizza Rolls and playing for hours on end. Not a care in the world.. I miss that feeling.
I was a Gordon fan also miss him driving on track
Same! He was so much fun to watch.
@@know1tv they were all worth watching back then, you cant pay me to watch nascar nowadays
Been one since 2002
Same
@@Full_Otto_Bismarck exactly it's no fun to watch anymore it's basically commercialized now instead of letting the boys race
Jeff Gordon is also my favorite racecar driver also until he retired amd now I don't watch nascar anymore but this brought back memories
Played this game all the time with my pops! Loved the nostalgia and memories. RIP dad
Awe man. I can remember opening this game up along with the PS1 on Christmas. First game I ever played as a kid. This hit me in the heart.
You have no idea what this just did to me. I spent more hours playing this and fighting my brother for going backwards than I can count, when that bill Elliot car popped up and then the irnie car on the main menu. Man I smiled big
I was a kid in the 90s and my childhood is filled with NASCAR announcers in the background of many of my experiences. This game is engrained in my memories too, especially the Molly Hatchet!
Zach! This game does brings back so many great Nostalgic memories! The graphics, sounds and gameplay for Nascar'98 was so good for its time, instant classic! Could you showcase all the retro ps1,ps2 Nascar games? Would love to watch and reminisce Through the years of greatness. :)
omg, thank you for this, the first minute of this video was pure childhood nostalgia!
I wasn’t even a nascar fan but still played this game so much as a kid. it was so addicting so fun.
I've been on a 90's NASCAR kick lately.
My mom bought this for me when it came out since me and my brother-in-law were HUGELY into NASCAR back then. We had to listen to that intro song and watch the video every single time we played the game to get pumped up.
Oh heck yeah! This was my first racing game I ever played! Ah, good times! Thank you so much for helping me remember some good times for once.
I used to play this all the time. And I still do every once in a while. My drivers were Ernie Irvan and Dale Jarrett.
Oh god I remember playing this! That menu music = nostalgia XD
So many great memories playing this with my dad 😃
My dad and I spent many nights playing this together when I was a kid. Even had the steering wheel and pedals. Good times
8 years after this game came out, I played it. Worth it. Born the same year.
Wow, amazing, you should play NASCAR for the Nintendo 64, it's soooo much worse!
I believe it!
Oh yeah, lots of great memories. My grandma was visiting from out of state and she bought this for me when we all went to Walmart just for the heck of it. I played this game so dang much. I've never even followed nascar.
I grew up on Atari. This game graphics and music absolutely blew my mind back in the day!
haha i loved this game !!! the intro is the best all time
I can never hear this song and not think of this game. I was 10 when this game came out. So many memories.
Man. I’m 26 now. Seeing this is giving me chills lol I remember growing up, I myself lived and breathed NASCAR lol my whole family did. Plus my dad, brother, and all my uncles raced at our local track for YEARS! I also just remembered that you could use paintballs! By going to I think it was the screen in the pause menu that showed all the people and push all the top buttons on the controller and it’d activate the paintballs to shoot the other racers and make them spin out! Haha Great video man. I’m really glad I just found this! You got a sub from me bro! Great work!!💯🤙
Thank you for making this bro!! Loved it! Nostalgia hit
Hard to believe how much better this is than modern NASCAR games!
Thanks for the throwback Zach. I spent days and days of my childhood playing the original Driver on the PS1. Any chance?
Driver 2 was my jam, so possibility of me playing that.
It's in the game. Never played this, but I did play far too many EA sports games as a kid.
Whenever we took the camper to the river my dad would bring our PS1 and we would play nascar 98 together. Man that menu music is the most memorable part of my childhood
This was my favorite game as a kid. Your right back then the graphics felt amazing.
Holy crap this video sent me back to when I played this on my dads PS1 back in late 90’s early 2000’s
Throwback Tuesday with retro games would be a sweet series to do!
Yes! I love that idea!
Man I loved playing this game when I was younger... Keep up the good work man
Nascar 98 is a great video game on Playstation 1 and thank you for uploading this
Oh my God man this is so nostalgic. Brings back so many good Memories. This is what got me into Nascar and I'm still watching it today. Just out of curiosity do you remember the game Destruction derby it was out around that time?
Derby destruction 2 was a super fun game
This is cool too see I’ve never seen this game ever. My nascar game was NASCAR thunder 2003 and I loved playing it in my childhood
I grew up a Gordon fan as a kid in the 90s and until he retired in 15. But 80s 90s NASCAR was the best in my opinion.
That song is burned into my memory. Also leaving pit stop "go buddy go go go"
Excide was Excide Battery. I believe Jeff Burton was it's driver.
I was just after these times so i’d like to see more. it’s crazy going back to games in like 2004 that i used to play and seeing how far we’ve come but wow this is insane
This song is still stuck in my head it was a great song
I loved the game and it reintroduced me to Molly Hatchet. Thanks for the video and the memories! ❤
Annnnnd i never knew that the Molly Hatchet album covers were by Frank Frazetta!!! 🎉
This brings back memories I had this game as a kid
I may have never seen this game before, but i felt the same way when i played 99, listening to that intro and everything
Zach, thank you so much, this hit me right in the childhood
Brings me back to my childhood!
Those old nascar games are cool as hell I still have nascar 99 hadn’t touched it in years
This was my favorite Nascar game when I was younger.
I loved watching my brother play this game when we were growing up. Ah the nostalgia!
I played the hell outta 99 when I was a kid. Don’t know that I ever had this one but the nostalgia is real my guy
I got my ps1 in sixth grade for Christmas and this was the game I got. Absolutely loved the game.
It took me only one minute to feel like a five year old kid again who sits in her brothers room and plays this game with him for hours and hours 😭😭😭❤️
This bring me back, further than I care to admit lol.
Now that's a blast to the past. I love it! I had a PS1 with all sorts of games. I never played NASCAR, because I was more into F1 back then. I had the F1 games from EA Sports (It's In the Game! I love that. lol) In 1998 Test Drive 5 was my game. That was the only game I wanted for Christmas. I played the hell out of that game. I miss it so much. Any chance of a Test Drive 5 video? lol
The Test Drive games were great, had a lot of them. Probably will be played in the future!
Wow Zach you took me back a bit and I love it bring more I missed those games in my younger days.
Awe man I remember being a kid and watching my dad play this on ps1 😂 it was his favorite game
One of my favorite video games when I was kid
Nostalgia hour!!
Flirting with disaster might as well be nascar's theme song. I grew up with this game. I played nascar 98 for years. Talladega was my favorite track. Now I'm grown up and I finally get to go to a race at talladega. You best believe I'll be blasting some Molly Hatchett when I get there!
Zach I so remember the PS games and I really remember this game omg man. The good old days
Dude I did the same thing before I played the game. I was 10 when this came out and I couldn't stop playing. This was way ahead of it's time. What I couldn't understand is why didn't all of these games have Daytona on them? I don't remember the first game that had Daytona on it but I was born and raised and still live 20 mins west of Daytona international speedway and have been to races since I was 5 and all I wanted to do what race at Daytona. This video makes me wanna go buy a PlayStation, the old school one and get this game and play it day in and day out
Thank you for bringing my child hood back. Also holy pixels.
Jeff Gordon changed Nascar! Dude made it exciting for people who wouldn't normally associate with racing. He was always my favorite. And then when Hendrix racing was him Dale Jr. and Jimmie Johnson. Just an unstoppable force.
Ahhhhh the smile that came on my face when I heard that intro
My driver was John Andretti, whose's driving he RCA #98 car for Cale Yarabourgh. Sadly, he's battling for his life right now with colon cancer.
As I remember you could wave in the car. Same with having a cheat code where you could have paint balls spat at the car in front of you, and spin them out.
By the way, Exide was a car battery company.
Just bought a PS1 last night and I'm looking through all the games I played as a kid haha.. Getting this for sure. Running 100% laps like the old days and no doubt crashing within the last 10 laps hahaha
One of the most badass games of my childhood!! I never won but sure did pit maneuver everyone
Hot damn I was trying to find this intro all day yesterday and finally gave up 😢 .. and then this popped on my feed today and OMG YES 😂😂🎉😊
Brings back memories
I used to have this for the sega saturn, loved it
same, i had the saturn version and i looooooved it
I had this game this takes me back I was only 19 at the time and I finished high school that year
I actually have and still have the Collector's edition with Richard Petty on the cover and he and Darlington are in the game. And the intro celebrated NASCAR's 50th anniversary.
Brings back a lot of memories
Jeff was my second favorite driver back in the day, right behind Ricky Rudd, of all people. Dunno why i liked him or how i ended up picking him, but yeah. He was my guy 100%
I remember going to Walmart with my dad..I was probably 12.. And we not only bought this game, we bought the steering wheel and pedals to go with it as well! For the past 23 years, every single time I hear flirtin with disaster by Molly Hatchet, I think about me and my daddy playing this game! Ty for this ❤️
P.S. I also watched the intro like, every time! Lol
I vaguely remember the steering wheel and pedals. That was advanced at the time lol
So you still have the original PS1? I have it, I just stored it away, but I can play it anytime, but not planning to anytime soon lol, but amazing video Zach!! So many memories came back to me from this!
I'm actually emulating it here, but still have an original PS1 and PS2 somewhere lol
Oh man I had NASCAR thunder 2003 and I loved it so much
Jeff Gordon was my favorite driver too! Now it’s Chase Elliott. But I love nascar games! Hope you keep playing them
loved this game and song as a young boy lol Jeff Gordon fan here as well brother!
The good old days
Jeff Gordon is was my favorite driver. And hes one of the best ro race
I remember playing this when I was a kid and there was a button that you could push on the playstation controller. You can wave to the crowd if you had the cockpit view
that intro deserves a like
N64 memories come flooding back, damn.
My equivalent was TOCA 2 from a couple of years later - revived some fond memories. Might have to try and dig it out again now.
Exide was a battery company.
I'm a big Jeff Gordon fan as well, and I'm proud of it, no shame here.
The black Havoline car was always my choice , that intro song!!!
My old favorite game. Loved it.
I may be 18, and this game is older than me, but I still played it as a kid!
I played this game so much. Love it.
