Most other car manufacturers they use the CVT transmissions, which should be a complete turnoff to any car buyer's. I know people out there will disagree with me, but all you have to do is look at the repair and track record of both transmissions. You will see that, the hydramatic last 5 times longer, sometimes getting over, 200,000 miles, most CVT can't make it passed 60,000. To make matters worse a shop will not repair a CVT, replace only.

You lost me on the review Bud. I'm not even looking at buying one. My wife is. The 6 speed transmission shifts flawlessly as per Car and Driver review. It's been around a few years. Braking is very decent for this SUV as well. JD power has the equinox reliability score at 91 out of a 100 which is an excellent rating. That is the top reliability outfit in North America. So that's proof that the owners are happy with their vehicles. The chassis is tight and playful According to many reviews from the major car magazines and independents, and it handles great. Spacious, safe and looks great. When you said economy car I have to disagree. That premium model at under $40K is not economy. You want an economy car, buy a chevy cruze or a Plethora of small hatchbacks or sedans from the major manufacturers. Perhaps you should look up some facts and include them in your reviews before you slander a good affordable vehicle.
The only maybe somewhat decent point he has is the car seat. But I have the 2019 premier. I like the slight changes but I don't know if I like the 6 speed vs the 9 speed in mine but I agree with u
@allanreyes5816 see, I took the same viewpoint as you guys, until my lease Was up, at which point we bought a Hyundai Santa Fe, which is a significantly better car in most aspects. I've seen a lot of car snobs claim american cars are great, but if you haven't experienced what se asian brands can offer, then of course you think paying $40,000 for this over a Tucson or a Cx-5 is ok. I want american companies to do better, I am not anti American company, but the last car I felt good about with them was my 13 Cruze that I had for 6 years. And even that felt chintzy after awhile.
The French 10mm timing chains are an issue that they have failed to correct. I've seen a ton of these in the dealership service bays. Hybrid batteries will fail and the cars are worthless then. I'll take a V8. No way do I want electric motors in a car for primary drive.
Im looking at the equinox for my new car. I currently have a 2011 Chevy HHR and love the car. I need a more reliable car. My car has had 3 transmissions and 1 transmission repair very recently. I love the gmc terrain but can't afford that right now
I have the 22 RS but also had the base 18 and it does have storage under the cargo section. Then below that is the spare tire. So that small under storage is great for all those reusable grocery bags.
I have been a chevy guy for years but will be one no more. I do not want a gas only car and do not want an electric only car. I see a plug in hybrid as the best choice at this time. So I am looking at the new 2023 Prius Prime as the car for me. The Prius is no longer ugly and that was the main problem I had with it. I think GM really blew it with their transition from gas to electric cars. All electric is just not practical until there are a lot more charging stations.
I agree with you on the drive train and engine. I currently own a Toyota and have owned 2 Hondas. I don't trust that GM can make a GOOD 4 cyl engines. Back in 1974 My mother had a Chev Vega, my dad had a Chev Impala, with a 350 cu in engine. The engine in the Vega blew up at 50,000 miles the Impala engine craped out 10 years after at 180,000 miles. GM, FORD and Chrysler don't make good small 4 cyl engines. The rest of the Equinox is a nice car, but I would never touch it with that engine in it! Put a Toyota or Honda 2.5L engine in its and then you have a reliable vehicle
Gotta disagree on the electrification bit. A normal hybrid I get, but plug in hybrids are seeing reduced demand worldwide for a reason. It sounds nice when you get the spiel from the salesman, but you start to notice the drawbacks as it really is the worst of both worlds. Either your EV is dragging around a gas engine/transmission/etc reducing it's range or your battery is low and the poor little gas engine is trying to move the now heavier car around while charging the batteries thus getting terrible fuel economy. A range extender plug in hybrid would be good as an option, however.
You might want to research how PHEV's work before tossing around an uniformed opinion... that's not how they work at all. Both HEVs and PHEVs are better options than gas only whether or not you have an infrastructure... also, the best "infrastructure" for a PHEV is called YOUR HOUSE... charge it overnight at home, its never dead, and there's passive recharging while driving. If your daily commute to work is like 15 miles or less one-way, you can practically drive a PHEV without even using gas at all just from an overnight charge at your house, you would never need an infrastructure. I suggest reading up on how PHEVs work before putting out such opinions.

I have a 2020 GMC Terrain Denali with the 2.0. It’s awesome besides the fact that you have to buy premium 93 gas otherwise the there is a noticeable drop in gas mileage and acceleration if you use reg. 87.
1. You need to have your wife do a review. 2. You are TOTALLY correct that GM needs to go more hybrid than EV. 3. I have a hybrid Toyota Avalon and it is excellent! 4. Is the Blazer situated between the Equinox and Traverse?
I work for Chevy. They say Hybrid is dead. Only really Toyota even focuses on it. Ev may be a phase though. The mining for the batteries is very polluting to the environment. Leaves massive creators of mined. Not good.
@@xpurpled Did you get a JD Power Award for saying that? If anything is dead, it's Chevy. To be honest, most people who buy Chevy's have never driven a foreign car... that's why they keep buying Chevy's. Chevy has terrible reliability issues across their fleet, most of their vehicles feel cheap and plasticy, they break down and just are poor buys for the money... Take this review for instance... 37K for a non-hybrid plasticy unreliable small SUV. I just bought a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SEL w/Convenience package, with an MSRP of 35K... it's a larger vehicle, more room in the rear seats and way more storage room in the back. All digital dash, multiple drive modes, 10.25" infotainment with built-in navigation, 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty with 10 year powertrain warranty, H-Tex leatherette seats, safety and tech features out the ying yan, 38mpg miles on a Hybrid engine package, more horsepower... and it costs LESS than this piece of plasticy garbage. Yeah, lets trust Chevy saying Hybrid is dead, while they put out hot garbage like this. I just don't understand why people buy Chevy when so much better is out there. But hey, they can always make up another JD Power Award.
I'm on my second Equinox from the 2018(base model) to now the 22 RS trim and can't recall any reliability or recall issues. There's been a few minor things with my 22 RS direct from factory. But nothing massively stand out stuff. But overall it's been fine. I'm actually looking forward to the EV version as I really don't do a lot of driving and it would cut down on yearly expenses ie: oil change and not having to think about doing basic errands and using gas. Just get home and plug in.
Just bought a 2022 Malibu Premier - last year with 2.0 Turbo and 9 speed automatic transmission. Awesome so far. Many super intelligent people talk too fast - slow down your presentation just a little. Very good presentation overall. The new Prius Prime and Rav4 Prime are basically a Chevy Volt. GM made a mistake to abandon the hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrain. Now, very soon, they will be going all electric. I question all electric in cold and mountainous areas.
No thanks, my friend bought one had nothing but problems with it. He got rid of it and got a Toyota RAV4 and is very happy with it. As for going all electric again no thanks. I would rather have a hybrid or all gas vehicle. I just don’t want to worry about running out of electrical power.
For two SUVs in the same category, its absolutely mind-blowing that people would choose an Equinox over a Rav4... or a CRV... or a CX-5... or a Tucson... or a Sportage... or a Crosstrek... it just blows my mind. So many options and you buy this? The only people who buy Chevy SUVs and like them are people who haven't driven in a foreign SUV.
Was your friend’s Equinox current generation? (2018 or later). Or an older Equinox? I ask because the reliability of the 2018+ models has been pretty good, while previous models had lots of problems.
@@wolfshanze5980 It actually can make some sense. I don’t own one, but I’ve rented Equinoxes several times and it they were actually quite good. I’ve owned a CRV, and I’ve rented pretty much every compact SUV out there. You wouldn’t think it, but the Equinox actually holds its own. Its two biggest weaknesses are its cheap-looking interior and relatively weak 1.5 turbo engine. But in terms of ease of use and ease of driving, it’s really competitive. Plus they’re cheap when you count the dealer discounts (yes, some Chevy dealers are back discounting these by several thousand $$ off sticker).
@@ridingdirty8897 Welll, it’s not quite so simple. Hondas and Toyotas often have more American content than equivalent Fords, Chevies, and Buicks. Ford and GM make a lot of their stuff in Mexico. Thanks for the review and information on the Equinox. I am looking more towards the EV version of this vehicle. So i am just watching all videos on Chevy Equinox ICE cars for cosmetics and interior features. I know the EV version will be somewhat different Thanks for mentioning the price of this model.
The company I work for has four 2022 chevy equinoxes with the base trim, and have been pretty solid SUVs.However, it's a pretty average SUV in comparison to its rivals.
If by "average" you mean "sub-par", i'd agree... check out any myriad of compact SUV reviews from oh... ANY CHANNEL, and you'll never see the Equinox listed as an actual competitor to the leaders in the Compact SUV field... Rav4, CRV, CX-5, Tucson, Sportage, Rogue, Crosstrek... any of those SUVs, all in the same category of Equinox all are leaps and bounds ahead of the Equinox in features, build-quality, reliability and overall satisfaction. You're just not going to see reviews that say "lets see if the Rav4 is as-good as an Equinox"... lolz... you'll just never see that ever. Chevy is one thing... CHEAP... that's why rental companies and businesses use them... because CHEAP IS CHEAP. The old saying is true... the only people who buy Chevy SUVs and like them are people who haven't driven in a foreign SUV.
@@wolfshanze5980 I'm aware that it's in the bottom of the pack, but boss lady just wants vehicles that are known for a good reliability and she can get readily under 30k.
I have a CRV Hybrid and it’s great. For the first 2 years I thought Yes, Hybrids are the way to go because of range anxiety. But… I now want to go all Electric. I’m buying a Bolt to check it out but based on my test drives and many UA-cam videos I’m sure I’m going to love it. As batteries and the ev infrastructure improve range anxiety will disappear and the most compelling reason is Efficiency. I will be charging at home and 99% of my miles will be within 30 miles. Trying to maintain two systems; EV and ICE simply doesn’t make sense anymore. I’m buying gas, needing oil changes etc. even though my MPG is good, around 40, I think All Electric will do the job without the maintenance issues inherent to an ICE. I’m starting with the Bolt EUV to replace my Honda Fit but thinking ahead to eventually replace the CRV Hybrid. Thanks for your video it’s very thoughtful.
Recalls are free fixes from the manufacturer. That doesn’t prove nothing about quality. It would be a issue if the company made YOU pay for the issues. Once you say recall you point can’t be proved.
Rav4 is a great SUV... but lets be honest, when you're talking Compact SUV and Equinox... pretty much ANY other SUV is a better option. The old saying of "the only people who buy Chevy SUVs and like them are people who haven't driven in a foreign SUV" is true.
When has GM not had reliability issues in any year of some model? lol. People buy them to wear a Chevy t shirt after getting robbed to give the company that robbed them free advertisement to show people they bought “American”. 🤣😂 but on the positive side they drive pretty nice but these and fords are cheaply made at the end of the day. I think if you get one you know that and get it cause of the affordable price, how it drives and it being “American”.
You can tell the reviewer is young when he says "Chevy seems to be having reliability issues lately"... I spit out my coffee when he said that. I mean what part of "Made in Mexico" inspires confidence in reliability?
@@wolfshanze5980 Yeah right... I was assigned to a team to go to Mexico for 4 weeks to help with quality problems. Thanks for the review and information on the Equinox. I am looking more towards the EV version of this vehicle. So i am just watching all videos on Chevy Equinox ICE cars for cosmetics and interior features. I know the EV version will be somewhat different
Thanks for mentioning the price of this model.
Thanks!
The 6 speed is better than a CVT like the Hondas and Nissans.
The old saying is true... the only people who buy Chevy SUVs and like them are people who haven't driven in a foreign SUV.
you mean garbage 😂😂😂😂
@@wolfshanze5980 I'm aware that it's in the bottom of the pack, but boss lady just wants vehicles that are known for a good reliability and she can get readily under 30k.
@@mattnorman5241 I would never buy one myself since it has a rental car vibe. But they are adequate enough for what we use them for.
@@wolfshanze5980 The reliability rating of 2023 Chevy Equinox is more than Tucson, Sportage & Rogue. They did improve... stupid....
Even the Diesel Version.
Why are you talking so fast?
Hell yeah emo hair, this man knows his audience went to high school in ‘04 amirite?
It's a nice SUV 🔥👏🔥
recalls on every vehicle
All of the previous equinox suvs are a great example on why you should buy a Toyota
Rav4 is a great SUV... but lets be honest, when you're talking Compact SUV and Equinox... pretty much ANY other SUV is a better option. The old saying of "the only people who buy Chevy SUVs and like them are people who haven't driven in a foreign SUV" is true.
I'd rather buy a chrysler 300.
ONLY 40K for a non-hybrid Equinox!!! you have to be kidding us!!! LOL
Not everyone wants hybrid or electric!
Mediocre fuel mileage and 325 mile fuel range is not good. Badly needs a hybrid if GM continues ICE version.
Junk
Junk GM Junk lol 😆 😂
any vehicle can be junk if you don't take care of it
Now build in Mexico, stay away or you'll be at the dealership getting it serviced every two weeks, don't ask me how I know.
But Mexico equals enthusiastic dedicated workers and superior build-quality!
@@wolfshanze5980
Yeah right... I was assigned to a team to go to Mexico for 4 weeks to help with quality problems.
We were assigned to a team of about 10 people there that lead quality department at their plant, and half of them weren't even showing up at work during those 4 weeks. Quality is just not part of the culture at work there, everyone is very relaxed and they don't really care that much. American companies pay them next to nothing so they give next to nothing. Can't blame them hough, you can only get out of your workers what you put into them, those people in Mexico are treated as cheap labour slaves.
@@googlreviews7813 Shhh.... don't tell the people buying Equinox's that!
@@wolfshanze5980 they going to the poor house
Our equinox has had nothing but problems due to it's a V6 and they refuse to fix it when they knew there were issues... We are NEVER buying another Chevy again!!!!
Due to it being a V6? How so? I mean how is it being a V6 the issue?
@@jkk2399 the 2010s they knew the V6s we're an issue but the only recalled the smaller engines for the same issues.
You're smart... Chevy just builds cheap vehicles out of Mexico these days. Cheap is cheap.
GM is junk
gm is for poor people
One of the most underpowered, whiny engines in its class. I don’t know what you’re talking about. You have to press the pedal all the way to the floor to accelerate

Reason 1: crap quality.
Bingo
Reason 2: cheap-plasticty feel and low build quality (or is that 2 and 3?).
