I don't know... From personal experience with the kind of clear plastic retainers shown in this video, I don't know if I would try "brushing it every day" even with just water and a toothbrush. Sometimes these types of retainers are fabricated pretty cheaply and thinly... I once had such a bottom retainer snap and break running it under water and just lightly trying to brush it. I find that simply using denture tablets on occasion and giving the retainers a good soak and gentle rinse does the trick (as breaking a retainer where I'm from runs around $750 for replacement). Additionally, I remember being told by my orthodontist and dentist that I could bring my retainers with me when I get a regular dental cleaning and they will put them into one of those ultrasonic cleaning machines you showed and talked about. Happy retaining!
P.S. There was a period of time that I stopped wearing my retainers for about a year-and-a-half, but found I missed the benefits of bite retention and joint support while sleeping, so I went back to wearing them. I am happy to say that in my own personal case (which may be different for others), the retainers went right back in with just a little bit of extra tightness for a few nights after I gave them a good soak and rinse.
I'm week 4 into wearing my retainers. I got clear and the mental retainers. I'm always grossed out when I take them out so I don't understand how people don't clean them. My orthodontist also mentioned the tablets along with the toothbrush and water.

I clean my toothbrush, toothbrush heads, interdental brush in denture cleaner every night. It’s just like cleaning your knife, fork and spoon 🤷

I have only had my retainer for about 2 weeks and have been brushing it with toothpaste, thankfully I watched this! Also, doubt you'll see this comment but I have a question, do you have to use dishsoap for cleaning the retainer or can you just use regular hand soap?

I am guessing this is only for the plastic Tru-Train retainers? I got my braces off last week and was given a Hawley retainer and was told to use water and toothpaste to clean it.

I was told yes it can work on them when you really need it last week when I got my braces off and given a Hawley too.
For cleaning retainers the office I worked at always recommended using Polident or Efferdent tablets. They make them for retainers now.
Yes. It is definitely important to clean retainers every day. Otherwise , it becomes a container for bactéria to live in, and then move into your mouth
