Saw this about 2 months ago. I built my trap last year but it wasn’t until I started doing this trick that I began having success. Doing the trigger like this as opposed to tying the wire to the door and a stick to the opposite side of the trap for them to trip it made the difference for me. I used a stick instead of PVC but now that I see it works I’ll get some PVC. Today I got my biggest catch yet, I got 6. Thanks for the information sharing, definitely was a game changer for me.
We are constantly experimenting. Been well pleased with this project…we’ve used netting as a gate as well ( Pig Brig style) also worked. Thanks for watching!
Great idea. You know something else this is good for is getting hogs used to the trap. I only make it out to my place on weekends, and I don't want to trap when I'm not there. So I could use the PVC to lock open the trap door while I'm away, then set the trigger when I'm there. That way the hogs get used to feeding in the trap. What do you think?
@@whitetailcartel80 I just completed my 1st c trap. How tight / taut should the tension door be? I followed the instructions pretty good, it just seems really tight to me. Thanks.
The pvc trigger should barely stay in place. The paracord should be tight. You want to cup the pvc enough to stay in place….but pull out when hogs hit string. And they are usually rowdy enough when feeding that they will trip it.
Instead of using paracord, I used some dark green 80# braid fishing line. At dusk, it was hard for me to see it, but that works! I also put a watered down generic pancake syrup in the corn pail. they loved that! (so did the turkeys).
So to make it trigger the heart or the dog passed a walk over para cord? Or running through it? Couldn't really see how that happened with all the shadows in the
The dog tripped by walking over the paracord. The key is to stretch cord to trigger in gate tight…so it trips really easy if animals walk in to it. And the way hogs feed…they’ll trigger it. Thanks for watching!
@@whitetailcartel80 Me too; I could not see how the trigger & paracord system is rigged up...also it is difficult to see the paracord in the film. watched it a few times but wish we could see the entire set up in one view first then show how it is connected together.
Apologies for my camera work! If I remake this video I’ll show connection better. Just make sure string is tight and trigger stick is easy to pull out.
I was going to stop in October…but with numbers like they were…decided to go year round! And the hogs are all fed out for a couple of months, then processed. Thanks for watching!
@@whitetailcartel80 Very nice information. Living in the South, I just wasn't sure if the meat would ruin or not during hotter weather. I suppose as long as you get the it cool as quick as you can, you'll be alright.
Great point. If it’s August in Georgia ,I’d let it go if I couldn’t get it skinned and cooled immediately. They spoil incredibly quick! And really like your channel…just subbed!
Great idea I still think it needs more delay . So more pigs can enter. Perhaps put the main bait near the centre . Leaving the tripwire to the very end.
I see a couple comments about delay. Make the prop wide enough for a piglet and small hogs. The smaller hogs will be more hungry and less skittish and go in first. Let an adult close the corral trap door.
Well, it looks like you have never seen the Pig Brig hog trap. With that trap you can trap the whole sounder and more. Please watch this video and you will know what I mean: "32 Feral Hogs in One Trap: "Pig Brig" Review"
We actually have a Pig Brig…lol. Check out the channel, we have several Brig catches. But this trap is effective …and a lot cheaper! Will check out the vid, and thanks for watching!
100% agree! Our biggest catches are from the Brig. I will say it’s a little difficult to load from. Since this video we have modified some of the corral traps with a net door…and they catch pretty good. And they cost about $300 to build.
You don't have to buy a full "pig brig" just make up a doorway panel based on their principal, I'm going to use old trampoline mats instead of netting. Should be just as effective.
Very true! We’ve built a couple with a net gate…we call it the hybrid. And we’ve definitely caught hogs. But we always seem to catch more with Brig. Check out our vid “Hybrid Hog Trap: Will it Catch???” And thanks for watching!
@@whitetailcartel80 What would make the cheaper one better? Ideas include trying a simple direct rope trigger : inside door tied mid height to trap side post so door held open. Trigger being a leg hold trap loose jaw missing (so it makes less noise & doesn't catch a nosey coon) set & fixed solid to same post. Then trap side tie transferred to trap beneath dog (which holds jaw open). Hole in trap plate holds trip wire which can be positioned as desired. Higher will be more likely tripped by bigger pigs which enter later often. A length of fishing braid as tripwire, green is near invisible. Some sort of padding where gate slams shut making less noise should reduce panic. So would putting it around some cover to hide in a bit. Height will stop jump outs, seems a few are pretty agile. Baiting under the tripwire burying bait in several places with an auger might get more to persist there to increase the tally. Even bait in a bag buried & tied to the trip so triggers when pulled. Very interested if any of those are given a whirl & results, or if they seem irrelevant. Also ideas if "C" or "6" configuration is preferred?

I think that’s a great idea to condition them! And I would tie pvc pipe to panels so there is no inadvertent catch. Thanks for watching!
Don't point that finger at me.
Were you triggered?
Like your channel sir. Good stuff
Thank you! Same here…just subbed!
Have at least 8 caught on camera tearing my yard up this morning. Gonna show this to my husband. Thank you.
