- Jalen Smith is a wiry big with upside as a shooter and a rim protector. His ability to do both of those things at his size make him an intriguing prospect.
There are questions about his ability to defend on the perimeter but I think with a few years of NBA teaching and structure, he can become more effective out there. Besides, Rudy Gobert is a perennial DPOY candidate and he couldn't guard me in space.

@@GudJonnyCakes He can create and shoot the spot up 3, block shots, and moves well enough to defending 3s and maybe 2s. With CP3 and Ayton in the line up, I see the birth of Lob City 2.0.

He fits into modern offenses really well and looks pretty comfortable shooting jumpers. He’s gonna be a weapon for whoever drafts him
I would love for NYK to pick him. I would pick him at #8. He does a lot of thing well. He is a sure fit for a defensive-minded team like the new Knicks mission.

As a Celtic fan this is the player we need. We need a 6’10 athletic big. This would open the floor up even more for Jaylen Brown, Kemba, and Tatum.

I think he projects pretty well as a stretch big on offense and a rim protector on defense. Would excel on certain teams and in certain schemes more than others.

boochtron I don’t think so. He’s a great defender shoots the 3 really well and is super athletic. I don’t think he’s being talked about enough. Obviously if Killian Hayes or someone like that falls then you gotta take them but I don’t anticipate any of the top guys being there.
@@RJ_2121 at 14 i really want Aaron nesmith. celtics haven't had a pure knockdown shooter since ray allen. i want nesmith, bey or Vassell. I wouldn't mind if they tried to move up for one of those 3. for jalen smith though? eh. i would almost prefer a guard like cole anthony or tyrese maxey.
boochtron the hope is Edwards becomes that guy but I’d be down with Nesmith. We have shooters though and I honestly think Jalen Smith is gonna be a really good player, especially in today league. He stretches the floor but is also can be traditional big. I’m not sure any of the players you mentioned will be around like you said they would have to move up. I respect your opinion but I honestly think a stretch 5 would help our team the most. No doubt those guys would be great but there’s only so many touches to go around.
He runs the floor like AD, Block shot like Nerlens Noel but plays like Myles Turner/Jaren Jackson

YMiniZ BBallAddict For sure! Exactly what I was thinking. Especially if one of his weaknesses is his post game he really doesn’t have to improve that next to the next scoring big in basketball. Literally just spot up, catch lobs and help KAT on defense.
I'm not seeing him being anything other than a role player. He'll get bullied by Towns in the post (Towns is soft for a center). If he gains muscle, he'll lose what little athleticism he has, and get destroyed in the pick and roll. What is he gonna do when he gets switched onto a guard?
The Ibaka comparison is a stretch, Ibaka is a lot more athletic.
Random Wyvern Well I’m not expecting him to be an all star player whatsoever, a role player who can catch lobs, spot up for three a shot block at the power forward position is the perfect fit next to KAT. We already have KAT and DLo as our all star level players with a future 20ppg scorer in Malik Beasley. Now we just need to spread out the roster with solid role players that will fit with KAT and DLo and Jalen Smith is a great example of that.
One thing I didn't really love with him at times when I watched games was his defensive effort level. There were times when he just didn't even make an attempt to disrupt the offensive player. Times where he didn't get a hand up on a shot in the midrange, didn't try to move his feet, etc. I still like him a lot as a prospect. But yeah... something he needs to work on.
So I see I've found the new hot spot for draft breakdowns (RIP DraftExpress). I've watched a lot of this guy, and as a Pacers fan I can say he reminds me a lot of Myles Turner except....and this is huge....he actually rebounds the ball. Going to be a stud, especially if/when he gets into an NBA weight room and bulks up some.

Seems like the perfect fit next to Ayton long term at the 4. I expect him to come off the bench with saric this year and form a nice bench frontcourt with him, with cam starting at the 4. An explosive athlete who is a great rim protector and can stretch the floor is perfectly complementary to DA
Ya i think this almost guarantees they bring Saric back like we all thought, he's the big athletic rim protector needed next to Saric and they can both shoot

This kid is nice! My hopes as a Timberwolves fan: top 5 pick = deni, 16th pick = precious achuwia, 33 pick = jalen smith. Pair them with KAT, DLo and Beasley for our big three with other young guys like Culver, Okogie and Reid.. our future will be looking real REAL nice.

Sort of reminds me of Serge Ibaka, with a little more bounce to his game. He is a little raw in the post, but with the right coach he can improve that part of his game. Plus, he will get bigger and stronger later on in his career. I would like to see the New York Knicks draft this guy later in the 1st Round

As Suns fan I say he'd fit well to the team! But I just wish, just like last year that they trade down but it's done and I have no regrets having cam at 11th so i guess this pick would work out as well let's go playoffs!
We got cam bc we trying to win now not wait 3/4 more years when books contract is up. Don’t have time to let guys develop. Gotta get players that will either be good trade assets in the future or the best available guy that compliments what we already have. He’s a really good pick tbh

My first thought was Myles Turner, to be completely honest. And, that's what I thought of him when I watched Maryland games. I think he has a little more fire. But, go ahead and roast me if I'm completely off
Way better rebounder which is why I think serge is a little bit of a better comparison, but turner ain’t far off at all
I can see a little bit of Pascal siakam in him, if he gets stronger and improves court vision he will be a very good big in the NBA

He's a very interesting prospect. A smart team will take him high. He's a better 3-point shooter than Siakim but a worse rim attacker. He'd going to block a lot so he needs a strong body alongside him. He's a Top 10 prospect for sure

He’s giving me jerami grant vibes. Which honestly isn’t bad for the Suns. After they picked cam Johnson last year I knew they were no longer trying to “build” but they were looking to win sooner than later for the sake of 1) keeping Booker but 2) getting this team some playoff reps. This guy was another head scratcher pick from the surface but looking at it now, he’s actually a really good person to pair alongside Ayton bc he can stretch the floor and is a good help side defender. If developed right, dude would be a nightmare for teams in the playoffs.

To me, it makes sense that the Suns drafted him to take pressure off Ayton in terms of having to guard the bigs in the west of Gobert, Jokic, AD, etc

His negatives really aren’t that bad. Most will improve with experience. I feel they could’ve traded back but I said the same about Cam Johnson, he turned out to be a sniper that can do more.

If you compare his traditional and advanced stats in college then they are remarkably similar to Pascal Siakam (who was a late first rounder himself).
I'm here hoping the Spurs can flip Thaddy for him, and I tell you, I'd be very excited to get him. He was a reach but he's still a very exciting prospect on both ends and something we desperately need, a spacing big.

Miami should take him. He is everything we are looking for in a center which we lacked in th playoffs. He can run the floor defend, shot block, rebound, has the ability to strech, can score of floaters and great pick n roll player. He would really ease the pressure of Bam and is a great rebounder which was a big loss for us espically agaisnt the Lakers. Footwork and post playing even though it is a weekness can be imrpoved on, Miami has one if not the best coaching staff in the NBA so that wouldn't be a concern for me. Plus Bam is more of a post player he would be more of a streach five who they would count on to rebound, block shots, and hit threes all stuff he is good at.
