This video era of the Big Picture is the greatest decision this entire company has ever made
honestly, its so fun actually seeing their excited expressions rather than having my eardrums blown out whenever they’re excited about something. Also they have such a cool set? I imagined just an austere grey-recording room with prison-like walls as they stared each other down with emotionless gazes,
@@GuineaPigEverydayagreed!
I wish they had the entire Midnight Boys and Rewatchables on video - there are shenanigans that deserved to be seen (I still put the Black Superhero Draft Pt. 1 on rewind just for Van, Jomi & Steve losing it on Charles drafting and having his pick be ineligible lmao)
Yup.I love watching pods, more interacting. We need The Town and Midnight boys as video pods too.
@@GuineaPigEveryday I imagined Sean with a full Obi-Wan-esque beard and, i guess, kinda? He's still great but
“Dementus feels out of step with the rest of the movie, which is trying to be more serious.” We’re talking about the movie with characters named Erectus and Scrotus?
The villain wearing nipple clamps felt out of step with the other villain rubbing his nipple clamps right next to him
Don't forget my boy smeg
And the lackie Toejam
Sean mixing up bullet farm and gas town hurt me .10%
He also mixed up that the first guys were from the citadel…
But I’m not mad 😅
There is no better feeling than seeing an interesting movie opening night and driving home with my wife listening to ya’ll and going ‘ooo’ or ‘that’s what I thought too.’
Best podcast ever.
Spoiler........
I think Sean is confusing a scene. When Praetorian Jack and Furiosa have the scene with her with the sniper rifle they are at the bullet farm trying to load up on bullets. They do not know that the bullet farm was taken over by Dementus. The scene with them getting gas is a different scene.
I am watching this immediately after seeing the movie and I can’t believe how many basic details of the plot Sean gets wrong
yeah okay im glad others caught on to that. people are talking about the mix up between gas town and bullet farm but also he kept talking about how dementus and his goons worked for the citadel which is like “no bro they literally had no idea about it”
@@s_rene_jgAnd then once they did find out about it they fought a 40 day war for control of it!
I feel like the wisecracky almost immersion-breaking goofiness of Chris Hemsworth was actually exactly the point of his character. He seems to entirely check the self-serious weightiness of road war and what you’re left with in its absence is a kind of existentialist absurdity? Like this guy is basically just a normal guy who gets bored and does evil shit because he just has to do SOMETHING, not because he has a tragically sealed motivation or because he’s some essence of evil incarnate. There’s a bathos and a mundanity to his wrongdoing that actually really works in that it forces Furiosa’s character to reconsider basically her entire character motivation and driving force because of how much it utterly does not seem to matter to Dementus. I think it actually really enriches the ultimate message of hope and striving for something more beyond the Wasteland, and is by far the coolest villain I think the franchise has seen
True!
Or the man is in another movie
Love this analysis.
i mostly agree with you, but it's made clear he does have some sort of tragic backstory where he lost his family. but this is just the cherry on top of everything else you said
These movies have always been part silly, part camp, part absurd, with colorful and atypical villains. I don’t understand this take that Mad Max has historically been this like gravely serious drama and Chris Hemsworth somehow tainted the purity of that. The same franchise where a henchman’s fingers are severed by a boomerang and everyone laughs? The same franchise with the over the top Jason Voorhees meets Arnie Schwarzenegger arch villain The Humungus? The same franchise that’s home to the Doof Warrior, the compulsively nipple-rubbing People Eater, the assless chapped mohawk maniac, and bad guys such as Rictus Erectus, Scrotus, and Master Blaster? Even Immortan Joe has these little moments, I think, of quiet comedic delivery and ridiculousness. You may not like Dementus, obviously a valid opinion, but the revisionist history of the whole franchise, contrasted with Furiosa to suggest it’s an outlier or somehow jumped the shark by veering into the comedic, that’s more a factual error.
Not sure I connect to their grousing over Hemsworth's performance. He's allowed to do something new and after 5 movies probably should. I thought that aspect of the movie was refreshing.
They’re complaining about it similar and then are upset at Hemsworth doing something new? It’s very confusing
Bad Times at the El Royale is a good example of Hemsworth playing a villain
His most tame
beat me to it!
playing a whimsical cult leader, to boot.
With so many story mistakes, Sean really needed to see the movie again
I think Furiosa is an excellent movie because it’s more on the Three Thousand Years of Longing route, about telling stories. George Miller makes the case of telling this character’s story by only showing scenes where she is present-it’s a perspective tale that comes with the caveat that Furiosa doesn’t want to tell her story, but it is such a good one that Miller wants to rescue it and give it to the world, that is why he adds the narration in the end. So it’s like “The Book of Furiosa”, five chapters, and Fury Road is the big epilogue.
Epilogue? I'd say fury road is the final chapter: Redemption.
My one push-back (from a stellar conversation) re: Dementus' cartoonish portrayal being somewhat out of place in the Mad Max world - the war boys. Nearly every Fury Road scene in which a war boy is prominently featured elicits a chuckle.
WITNESS THE POD. LITERALLY.
How did they completely miss the tragedy of Dementus when he has an entire monologue explaining it at the very end of the movie? To call that wisecracking is pretty reductive.
Agreed!
Is Fennesy growing Logan chops for Deadpool & Wolverine?
Nah no way they’re even comparing The Fall Guy to this - I switched it off during the unbearable Emily Blunt scene where she’s making him redo the shot and simultaneously calling him out during the Alien Fight. In no universe was that more fun than Furiosa - blasphemous take.
1. Fury Road
2. The Road Warrior
3. Furiousa
4. Mad max
5. Beyond Thunder dome
for my money (opinion) the first mad max goes 3, furiosa 4 but i never saw thunderdome , just know of its general rep.
Furiosa just didn't land for me, it felt like how a second unit would try to recreate Fury Road but misunderstand the assignment while also cutting corners everywhere and inserting some gross /ick moments in as well for shock value (?)
Dobbins talking about colonizers when she fetishizes monarchy 🤢
35:35 was listening to the audio version but had to see the video for this moment 😭
Crazy how people have completely forgotten about "Bad Times at the El Royale" one of Hemsworth's best performance
thought the same!
It was Mad Max as some Greek/Roman epic
I searched this channel up in hopes of finding the video version of this show and was in no way disappointed
half a dozen episodes before everyone realises dobbins hates on everything that isn't rom com
Sports Movie Draft and you all have to draft a sports movie about Football, basketball, baseball, hockey & boxing + WC. Do it!
If the lack of catharsis at the end is a criticism, then I think there’s a sore misunderstanding (especially following the themes of Years of Longing) about how much this film is about the tragic futility of myth, vengeance, and the desire for resolution in a literal wasteland.
Sean Thunderdome gave us "2 men enter 1 man leave"
1. Fury Road
2. Road Warrior
3. Thunder dome
4. Furiosa
5. Mad Max
41:07 sean’s referencing the bullet farm ambush but keep saying gastown
Loved it more than fury road on first watch. The world building and story over the years of her life was really cool. After second watch, I don’t think furiousa was better, But it was a great movie. I feel like your jaw is on the floor the whole time during fury road, and furiousa has those moments. But furiousas moments didn’t have the same aww bc we experienced so much of it with fury road. I think that if furiousa came out before fury road , it changes a lot and makes me curious how people would rate these films
Chris is the villain in bad times at the el Royale
bit weirded out by some of the thoughts here. i disagree completely that the film is "too similar to Fury Road", they are actually wildly different in pacing and tone, among other things. also, hemsworth was charismatic as hell and every time Dementus was not on screen, I was asking my friend "Where's Dementus?"
The Watch & House of R video pods soon hopefully 🙏
14:37 didn’t drake call himself a Warlord or something recently lol
"Im a war general seasoned in preparation. My jacket is covered medals honor and decoration."
One of the worst bars of all time
@@inqui5ition “I’m a Warlord not a colonizer.. you’re a real piece of *hit for calling me that” lol
Mad Max movies are tales handed down by those thar survived the wasteland that's why there is no real continuity and maybe things happened they say or maybe not
I love the live feed of your show! I can watch the movie and watch you guys after!! 🎉
Sync up their viewing of Tenet with their almost three-hour watch - it's a riot, even if you only have their audio.
The weay they forgot about Bad Times at the El Royale re: Hemsworth villains
The silly winking grandeur of the title cards feels almost Wes Anderson-esque to me. 20:55
To the Citadel!!! Lets party!!!!
A summer movie finally in 2024.
Love having the video option
Are you moving studios?
Bad Boys For Life but it's Sean and Zach loving and defending Babylon
I would honestly love if they tried giving some other post-apocalyptic road-based environments a shot, like other deserts, cuz there's a lot of cool-looking unique deserts out there, or flat open spaces with roads that you can make fantastic Mad Max movies in. Something which is a noticeable problem in Furiosa because they shot it in the Australian bushland, but painted out all the backgrounds with CGI to make it look like the Namibian desert, which is frustrating as hell, it ruins the great practical work they did. Tbf Namibia was a tough shoot, but it'd be cool if they tried just putting Mad Max in different landscapes to have road/vehicular wars on
Binge Mode: Aeneid lfg!
Fury Road would've done better in the Box office if it didn't have to compete with that garbage known as Jurassic World.
Or if it was any good
no one mentioned how sexy ATJ as Furiosa was?????!!!
Finally the finger verse pods on UA-cam. Can you upload to UA-cam music too please as podcasts. Also, I need The Town and Midnight blue video feed too please
Idont think ive ever watched Mad max movies.
4:49 You can’t just use the same wide shot you used in the previous episode when there were 3 people in the frame.
Damn BOBBY 🔥
1:10:41... 2024 BP quote nominee
she can't even sit at a table correctly. you are off-center to the camera. The Ringer should change it's name to the Washington Generals
Putting my name down on the petition in support of the Aeneid Pod. Really interested to see if Sean and Amanda think it fits in the anti-war Epic poem about War canon, a notoriously tough needle to thread
Just still very weird to put a face to the voices after years of following the pid ast
They never look like how I imagined, honestly I imagined them all to be way older looking considering the way they talk, for some reason Amanda looks the most diff from her voice
Love tour resuable water bottle, Amanda ❤️
What is it with you weirdos and the water bottles?
You guys just shit on the MCU every single podcast. It's just tiresome at this point.
Is doof in it?
actually yeah kind of. They show flashes of the doof
Briefly
Me hood
Can you get more annoying than these two 😂 holy shit!
Fine art? ehhh no
Sean needs to shave.
No I can't. I can't continue. "One of the best movies of the century". Fury Road. Nope.
Sean with the beard is kinda 👀
Furiosa was incredible. Honestly, I don’t think Sean Fennessey loves movies. He loves being pretentious about movies.
Dobbins in Davy Jones makeup playing the organ when?
Why does Amanda have major Elliot/Ellen Page energy in this episode with the outfit and the hair?
As usual, Dobbs offers NOTHING. Please just make the Big Pic Fennessey and CR
One of the worst Big Pic pods of all time wow
Ez there. You're a fan.
A “Max Max” movie without Mad Max. Instead?… a girl boss, OF COURSE. Sigh. Die, Hollywood, and hurry up.
Too much CGI.
Cool story.
Awesome Motorcycle chariot.
I will see it again and I would rank it alongside Beyond Thunderdome. A fourth place Tie.
Fpbp
Why do media respects George Miller so much? These movies are not more respectable than the Fast and Furious movies or the Michael Bay movies...
I think Miller wanted to make this movie because he was soured on his experience with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron and wanted to go back to this world without recasting Max or working with Theron again, hence, prequel.
why people talk about Miller like he's this awesome director?
@@edgardoMurnia Don't ask me dumb questions.
@@edgardoMurniaBecause he is? It’s ok not to know about film though.
@@Redjack10 ehh buddy... what the fk are you talking about lol. Did you see his filmography?
It's basically a dumb saga
The Penguins movies?
The pigs movies?
and then The Witches of Eastwick which may be great I don't know.
WTF YU TALKING BRUH
@@edgardoMurnia I don’t care about anything he’s ever directed outside of Mad Max and Lorenzo’s Oil. Those movies alone make him a great director.
