The extra power of the type S is great but I have 2 toddlers riding with me all the time, I’m always on the road so mileage is a must especially with inflated gas prices, and lastly I was able to add all the extra protection like permaplate, intire(covers wheels and tires), and 10yr powertrain warranty all for the same price as the type S
im taking that Toyota V6 build in that Lexus. Nice and reliable sports sedans that dont depreciate as much compared to majority of car brands out there
Just bought my Acura TLX with the Tech package. I had an MDX and loved it, but I was up against some high dollar repairs/maintenance as it was approaching 90k miles and decided to hit the reset button and go new. So glad that I did! I love my new TLX. After some serious negotiations and weeks of shopping, I chose the TLX over the IS, ES and the G70. I got almost everything that I wanted in my TLX for the price that I was targeting. Size wise, the TLX offers decent leg room for the backseat passenger(s) unlike the G70 and IS. The seats in the TLX are more comfortable than those in the ES, but that V6 in the ES is awfully sweet and runs on regular unleaded. To get a comparably equipped ES to my TLX would have added another $10k to the cost and that was just not in my budget. The TLX is smooth, fast, comfortable and has a killer stock sound system with the Tech package. The Lexus just can’t compete there. I gave the Mark Levinson a listen in a hybrid ES and was less than impressed with it, but the Acura ELS sound system is incredible. You can’t go wrong with any of these, but I would recommend checking with your insurance before going with Genesis as it would have doubled my premiums, whereas the Lexus and Acura rates were just slight increases.
Hello, congrats for your car and choice. I also tested the Acura (A-Spec and Platinum Elite - in Canada) and for me the turbo lag and the more than speeds I need (10) on the gearbox were a letdown. I would love to have maybe 7 or 8 speeds on the AWD model of the IS 350 F3 (with handling pack) and I absolutely love more the V6 engine that in normal mode is super comfy, in sport or sport+ is sporty and in sport+ with manual shifting for me is superb. About the backseats: I'm 6.2" tall and yes, the G70 was a joke, but I found myself having more space in the backseat of the IS when I used in the back of myself than in the TLX. A common error is that the people try in the IS to slide at maximum back the front seat that has a lot more room and slide more than in the TLX (good even for a 7" person!). So for me both cars were OK. Being a fan of the touch screen, I personally didn't like the updated, modern but downgraded screen and I saluted the thing that the IS now can satisfy both worlds: the fans of the touchpad and the fans of the touchscreen. Of course the look of these cars are subject of different tastes so no comment here. And will not buy a car only for its interior when the differences are not important. Personally I like more the IS handling, but again a matter of taste - being rear drive AWD based. There are some people here that are aggressive in their opinions, but I hope I'm not. The important fact is to have the best car for your taste and budget.

You can shout Lexus all day but no one is buying the IS and it’s even being discontinued in some countries now.

And No, FWD biased AWD can't compare to RWD. Lexus hasn't re designed IS since 2014, Acura had to redesign TLX 3 times in a mean time. So low sales on last gen model is pretty normal. Still Lexus outsells Acura every year. Most of the people won't even consider Acura as a luxury brand. Acura is an entry level luxury brand, You can get it for bargain compared to Lexus and other luxury brands. that's one of reasons for high sales. And you need to wait until Lexus's re-design. They take their sweet time and do it right instead of re-designing every other year.

Lexus IS looks breathtaking on outside especially the front. But I find myself against my own bias leaning more towards the TLX the more and more I research. Just seems nicer on interior and I keep hearing the transmission feels much better compared to the Lexus being a bit sluggish Also I’ve heard amazing things about the Acura sound system. People saying it’s one of the best sound systems of any car at any price class

Multiple media outlets seem to be missing the fact that the Lexus infotainment system now utilizes a touch screen. Considering the old system was one of the biggest complaints, I’m amazed people keep missing this detail.
The people are intoxicated by marketing, as I was - but after testing TLX, Audi 5 SportBack, Kia Stinger, Volvo S60 (T5 and T6), Subaru Legacy GT Premier, Alfa Romeo Giulia, VW Artheon and even Tesla Model 3 (yes a rocket, with technology but once at the wheel I felt no connection with the steril interior) and Lexus IS300 and IS350 , I was hooked by the IS350 V6 aspirated old school engine - see my previous comments
The Lexus IS so much better. We test drive both and hated the Acura. The Lexus was much faster, had a better engine and was much more comfortable than the Acura. It was over all a much better car and we are happy with our decision of purchasing it.
I understand the Acura’s win, but I really prefer the is, and this “refresh” just addresses most nitpicking from previous gen, SH-AWD is nice but rear wheel drive is special

Starting from 2003 the V6 Vtecs got me hooked, so i can only imagine when those cars are out, i mean the BMW is still unbeatable but as a secong hooptie oh yea one of Vtecs will work, that's if they have Vtec i didnt hear anything about it.

@@RomaneMaticaliseGordon Honda persist on having FWD based engine configuration, and rely electronics and software to make it behave as much as a RWD as possible. If we really think about it, the new refreshed IS has the formula of a nimble small luxury RWD sport sedan that we have been requesting from auto manufacturers. I really believe this is the spiritual successor to the E36/E46 3 series BMWs of yore. It is especially surprising that out of everyone, it is Toyota/Lexus that is perpetuating this awesome formula. I have been hating Toyota for years, but I have to give them credit for giving us exactly what we want... Simple RWD small sport sedan, when everyone is growing in size....
If it weren't for part shortages and the fact it could take a year to get the car. I would go with the Acura TLX. It's a much better car It's also cheaper and way more fun to drive than the lexus. The only way you can have fun with the IS is to go with F Sport which cost more and limited to just a V6. So if I had to choose I'd go with the TLX hands down. 👍👍

Reliabilty the lexus will win and will last longer those v6 naturally aspirated engine is legit. Performance and speed the tlx type s will win but reliabity is questionable since they will now have turbo under the hood. These 2 cars shouldnt be compared in the first place anyway since the IS is considered compact sedan and the tlx is a midsize sedan.
They wont compare this to the ilx, its just a civic and the complaints they have about the is are present in that car. Old chassis, driving dynamics and drive train. See how that works?
Yeah honestly Honda has definitely been shifting to the innovation and tech route, while Toyota is still staying with their conservative and simpler designs. No doubt Honda will still be reliable though, because their build quality is still one of the best.

This just goes to show you that people are not looking for those features. Reliability is one and the looks as well. The Type S is other kind of animal and we have to compare price wise here. Coming from a Honda Accord V6 I tested first the Acura TLX (the highest Elite trim with active dampers) that was in my dreams and boy, I was so disappointed even by the look - it shows better than the previous model in the front, but for me worse in the back and not to mention that the A-Spec is a joke, not anymore different than the regular one, where you saw some differences between the previous models. I finally bought an "old school aspirated V6", because I cannot stand to the Acura TLX turbo lag on the highway and permanent shifting in the town of the gearbox. Not to mention that the "modern" look with the non-touch screen let me down - when I saw Lexus adopting the touch one. I cannot stand to the vacuum cleaner sound of the V4 turbocharged engine that is slower than his own cousin with the same engine, Honda Accord from today. We have different taste, but the change has to come for real , not only for a change, so I preferred to buy the Lexus IS350 AWD F3, for the perfect mix, for me, of the comfort and the handling. Try them both and I will know what I mean - I was watching before a lot of UA-cams and I was convinced the TLX was the way - what an error! (even my wife and my son who has a Hemi Charger were disappointed by the TLX we went with desire to try it and we existed in frustration - yes, the marketing is big and paid!)
Many other reviewers think the IS still drives better despite its older chassis. Probably true considering the IS is RWD and the chassis was excellent when it was new and likely is still very good. The IS also looks better. The design is more tidy. The TLX is comparatively frumpy with it large front overhang and long butt. Acura did the best to hide this car FWD proportions, but the TLX is what it is. The TLX is also tiny inside despite its exterior dimensions. Lexus IS for the win. Especially if the rumored IS500 comes to life .

That Toyota may be RWD but no one is buying it over the TLX. The IS is even being discontinued in certain countries because of poor sales. The TLX outsold the IS, A4, and Q50 last year for a reason, and that wasn’t even the new 2021 model.

It’s another to blindly lie to yourself. Lexus is falling behind at the moment with certain models. Some models are great and others are 15+ years old under the hood and 5 to 10 years old in the interior.

But I find myself against my own bias leaning more towards the TLX the more and more I research. Just seems nicer on interior and I keep hearing the transmission feels much better compared to the Lexus being a bit sluggish
Also I’ve heard amazing things about the Acura sound system. People saying it’s one of the best sound systems of any car at any price class

Multiple media outlets seem to be missing the fact that the Lexus infotainment system now utilizes a touch screen. Considering the old system was one of the biggest complaints, I’m amazed people keep missing this detail.
The people are intoxicated by marketing, as I was - but after testing TLX, Audi 5 SportBack, Kia Stinger, Volvo S60 (T5 and T6), Subaru Legacy GT Premier, Alfa Romeo Giulia, VW Artheon and even Tesla Model 3 (yes a rocket, with technology but once at the wheel I felt no connection with the steril interior) and Lexus IS300 and IS350 , I was hooked by the IS350 V6 aspirated old school engine - see my previous comments

The Lexus IS so much better. We test drive both and hated the Acura. The Lexus was much faster, had a better engine and was much more comfortable than the Acura. It was over all a much better car and we are happy with our decision of purchasing it.
IS350 has far more value, & worth. Lexus all day.
I understand the Acura’s win, but I really prefer the is, and this “refresh” just addresses most nitpicking from previous gen, SH-AWD is nice but rear wheel drive is special

Lexus looks much better, but to really pick a winner, you’d have to drive both and see which one handles better.
Starting from 2003 the V6 Vtecs got me hooked, so i can only imagine when those cars are out, i mean the BMW is still unbeatable but as a secong hooptie oh yea one of Vtecs will work, that's if they have Vtec i didnt hear anything about it.

The IS is a stunner. I much prefer the IS surprisingly after years of criticizing it. The TLX is unnecessarily complicated.

@@RomaneMaticaliseGordon Honda persist on having FWD based engine configuration, and rely electronics and software to make it behave as much as a RWD as possible.
If we really think about it, the new refreshed IS has the formula of a nimble small luxury RWD sport sedan that we have been requesting from auto manufacturers. I really believe this is the spiritual successor to the E36/E46 3 series BMWs of yore.
It is especially surprising that out of everyone, it is Toyota/Lexus that is perpetuating this awesome formula.
I have been hating Toyota for years, but I have to give them credit for giving us exactly what we want... Simple RWD small sport sedan, when everyone is growing in size....

If it weren't for part shortages and the fact it could take a year to get the car. I would go with the Acura TLX. It's a much better car It's also cheaper and way more fun to drive than the lexus. The only way you can have fun with the IS is to go with F Sport which cost more and limited to just a V6. So if I had to choose I'd go with the TLX hands down. 👍👍

@@toomuch10601 rock solid relatability and a 15 year old engine isn’t everything. Most engines in cars now a days are going to run a good 100k miles without problem also. Lexus is just being lazy. A 6 speed though reliable is inexcusable in 2020 for a luxury brand.

Reliabilty the lexus will win and will last longer those v6 naturally aspirated engine is legit.
Performance and speed the tlx type s will win but reliabity is questionable since they will now have turbo under the hood.
These 2 cars shouldnt be compared in the first place anyway since the IS is considered compact sedan and the tlx is a midsize sedan.
They wont compare this to the ilx, its just a civic and the complaints they have about the is are present in that car. Old chassis, driving dynamics and drive train. See how that works?

Yeah honestly Honda has definitely been shifting to the innovation and tech route, while Toyota is still staying with their conservative and simpler designs. No doubt Honda will still be reliable though, because their build quality is still one of the best.

This just goes to show you that people are not looking for those features. Reliability is one and the looks as well. I dont know about you but i want a car that makes me fall in love with it everytime i look at it 😜 so yeah Lexus cars are a beauty to my eyes.

The Type S is other kind of animal and we have to compare price wise here. Coming from a Honda Accord V6 I tested first the Acura TLX (the highest Elite trim with active dampers) that was in my dreams and boy, I was so disappointed even by the look - it shows better than the previous model in the front, but for me worse in the back and not to mention that the A-Spec is a joke, not anymore different than the regular one, where you saw some differences between the previous models. I finally bought an "old school aspirated V6", because I cannot stand to the Acura TLX turbo lag on the highway and permanent shifting in the town of the gearbox. Not to mention that the "modern" look with the non-touch screen let me down - when I saw Lexus adopting the touch one. I cannot stand to the vacuum cleaner sound of the V4 turbocharged engine that is slower than his own cousin with the same engine, Honda Accord from today. We have different taste, but the change has to come for real , not only for a change, so I preferred to buy the Lexus IS350 AWD F3, for the perfect mix, for me, of the comfort and the handling. Try them both and I will know what I mean - I was watching before a lot of UA-cams and I was convinced the TLX was the way - what an error! (even my wife and my son who has a Hemi Charger were disappointed by the TLX we went with desire to try it and we existed in frustration - yes, the marketing is big and paid!)

Many other reviewers think the IS still drives better despite its older chassis. Probably true considering the IS is RWD and the chassis was excellent when it was new and likely is still very good. The IS also looks better. The design is more tidy. The TLX is comparatively frumpy with it large front overhang and long butt. Acura did the best to hide this car FWD proportions, but the TLX is what it is. The TLX is also tiny inside despite its exterior dimensions. Lexus IS for the win. Especially if the rumored IS500 comes to life .

That Toyota may be RWD but no one is buying it over the TLX. The IS is even being discontinued in certain countries because of poor sales. The TLX outsold the IS, A4, and Q50 last year for a reason, and that wasn’t even the new 2021 model.
