Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks for watching and liking our videos! and especially thanks to everyone who leaves a comment, it really helps our ratings on our video, and every comment is a little boost to our channel.. we appreciate your continued support and we see your comments and factor that into the decisions we make on the videos. Thank you
Thank you again for another interesting video and the hours/ days of hard work you put in to make these. Like everyone says the digs and finds are awesome to watch but the history and other research you put in are much appreciated. Thank you
I can no longer resist; did you take a class on how to properly dig a hole with perfectly straight walls? Never have I see such perfect pits dug by hand.
haha yeah i know.. and we didnt even have the opportunity to film all of it.. it was basically more bottles than dirt.. pretty unusual for a residential privy
Hey Tom......... Recently I happened to just randomly find your channel. Watched the video, and instantly subscribed. First off it was so interesting seeing some of the stuff you was finding. And it brought back a lot of memories from my younger days. When I was a teen I had some friends that got me into bottle hunting. Every summer we'd go hunting old farm dumps, out buildings, any where we thought might be good places. Found a lot of old stuff. Anyhow.......... I've been loving your videos that I've seen so far. Got a lot to see to catch up tho. LOL Just wanted to say hello. Let you know your channel is awesome. And you now have a new fan. :)
ah thanks man! this is jake, i kinda run the channel and throw the videos together, but its a team effort.. thank you tho, thats always awersome to hear.. sorry it took me so long to respond to your messages, we just got back from a trip and it was a little busy. Well im glad you found our channel, and im glad youy like the videos! dont hesitate to leave us a message. i always respond to messages on our most recent videos, but sometimes it takes me awhile to get back around to responding to older video comments. well glad you subbed!
Regardless if they were mainly slicks, what an impressive two privies you found. You do such a wonderful job at leaving the earth the way you found it. Fantastic video, too bad the storm was coming. Take care.
haha yeah.. that was filmed like 3 years ago, way before we ever even thought of making a youtube channel so it was destined to be a rough video anyways. well thanks for always commenting and watching our videos!
I can't believe how many bottles were I the second pit and approximately ninety-five percent were slick. I think a pharmacist lived there, because that was too many medical bottles for a sick person, unfortunately we will never know. Do y'all re bury the slick bottles? Or what do you do with them. Great video, thanks for taking us along on your journey. Take care and be safe.✌
Hard work for the little rewards... Y'all are definitely professional and extremely careful with the backfill... Can hardly see the evidence of your digs. Y'all stay safe and be Blessed ☝️🙏🤠...
haha thanks! yeah we try to do a nice job, bc everyone is always so nice to let us tear up their yard, we try to make sure we dont cause them any problems.. we always leave a number to reach us on if somehow the grass dies or the ground settles.. we've only had to go back like 1 times when a pit settles over a foot.. it was pretty unusual tho, because it was a very shallow pit.. i guess sometimes you cant predict exactly how an old dig site will react after a year of being disturnbed.. well thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
haha i hadnt heard that before.. but i totally believe it.. i guess. its nice that it makes some of the drugstore bottles a little more rare.. but honestly we are lucky if we get 1 local drugstore bottle per pit
with Ebay and internet resale value, would be worthwhile to clean up all those slicks and attach a laser printed graphic advertising from the era or a "Under the plains" cool spoof graphic label. Especially with the video provenance would make a nice display and memory of your guys UA-cam channel. 😁
yeah thats actually a really cool idea! well we do plan on cleaning them up, and displaying the better bottles we find, but yeah that would be super cool if we made custom paper labels and slapped them on there. thanks for the comment!
haha yeah, we usually dont take much of them with us, but we always make sure they are going to a historic society or to the homeowner.. but yeah we always take them with us if no one wants them.. my heart sinks when i think about someone throwing them into the garbage.. thanks for comment!
umm, we usually get some tips from people, but when we dont have anywhere in mind we just go on the internet and do some research until we find something thats the right age, and convenient to travel to.. sometimes we plan trips.. then when we get to the actual site, we will look at old fire insurance maps (sanborn maps) that showed which lots had properties on them at the time the map was drawn. then when we locate a property we want to dig, we go to the backyard and start to probe the ground with rods that are made especially for finding stuff under ground, and we just go until we hit an area thats softer, usually its a little crunchy from the ashes they poured down there.. its not super complicated but it does take alot of time and dedication.. and physical effort, bc probing the ground is more strenuous than the actual digging.. anyways.. hoped that answered your question. thank you for leaving us a comment and thanks for saying our content is great. we really do appreciate that! and feel free that if you have anymore questions or comments to go ahead and post. it helps our engagment and we're happy to respond
oh wow i had no idea that was still a thing! we see that bluing alot tho, i guess i just kind of assumed it was one of those things that wasnt around anymore. good to know tho! thanks for watching!
The Magnetic ointment was interesting. Just the combination of ingredients. Lobelia would calm your nerves. The smart weed is questionable. It's mostly used for diarrhea. Any Heirloom seeds? I'm going to keep asking about seeds Tom! Please be careful during tornado season.
haha this is actually jake that youve been talking to.. we went digging awhile ago and we just didnt have any luck.. but we are going on a digging trip for two weeks on saturday, so we are 100% going to find something.. ill try get you a variety, and maybe we can just send them to you before i even get home. how about you try leave a comment for me on our next video on like tuesday or wednesday and i will get back to you within a few days.. i should almost certainly be able to have something by then, and then we can an email for you to contact us on, and we can get ur mailing address

Makes my day when I see a notification that a new video of yours is out. 👍
Working my way through the videos when I came across this wee beauty. Loved this - so much from this we pit. Love from Scotland 🏴 UK

That was a great video , I'll be watching it again.
Very informative and well put together! Love the channel, thanks for posting
Insane amount of bottles in that pit!
haha yeah i know.. and we didnt even have the opportunity to film all of it.. it was basically more bottles than dirt.. pretty unusual for a residential privy
This is one of the most interesting privy digging sites on You tube
Thank you again for sharing your videos.

Oh my gosh Dude! All of these Slicks!
“There’s a tornado coming…”
“But look at the bottles…”
“The lightning…”
“More bottles!”
If a tornado hits you've already got a hole you can get in...😱

Arizona and North Dakota are known to the bottle diggers as "The slick states". LOL

@@BelowthePlains Are you going to go back and finish?
Great videos! When are you coming to Mass?
Wow that's a ton of bottles. Hope you saved the slicks too. That's still lost history many of us would enjoy.

How do you choose an area to dig? Great content!!!

Those two pits sure had a lot of bottles in them, especially the second pit towards the end of video.
It's always worth all the effort for that one local embossed druggist. Great job!
Wow that second one was loaded
thanks!
I use Mrs. Stewards bluing in my laundry.
oh wow i had no idea that was still a thing! we see that bluing alot tho, i guess i just kind of assumed it was one of those things that wasnt around anymore. good to know tho! thanks for watching!
Slick means broken?
Slick means no embossed names

@@BelowthePlains Thanks Jake. It's a pleasure to talk with you. Definitely I'll be leaving a message.
Shame this was done purely in portrait mode instead of landscape for a proper widescreen view like the other videos.
Wow, that's pretty crazy that someone just let u dig a giant hole in their backyard. How did you manage to convince them to let u do that?
Lots of work with little return...sigh.
Too bad the storm came in and stoped. It was getting too interesting.
Always great content
👍👍👍👍👍
haha thanks for always commenting! and thanks for watching
