    To purge a tank before using it to store gas, I'd highly recommend using a vacuum purge instead of gas purging as suggested. It's what HVAC guys do for their refrigerant tanks for the same goal of purity. While you may get "acceptable" purity levels with gas purging, you can't beat the purity of a vacuum. Even converting an HVAC compressor to a vacuum pump will achieve good levels of vacuum.

    Straight up dropping some knowledge. Even 99% pure compressed hydrogen scares me because of what we have been taught about tank failure. That a puncture can mean catastrophic failure, but I have been super curious about this systems for energy storage. Also to mention there could potentially be a heat transformation to storage, or a reclamation of energy in separating the oxygen and hydrogen from water.
    Keep up the great work and look forward to more videos.

      I think it will be safe. We are only talking about 120 to 140 psi. As long as oxygen content is lower than 4% it cannot burn. This makes it completely safe. Thanks for watching.

      The best way to store hydrogen gas due to its microscopic molecule size, is in what's called hydride. It's completely safe and non-explosive and can hold a tremendous amount of gas in such a small container called hydride cells. And the Purity is 99.999% pure hydrogen gas.

      Hydrides are fantastic and I experiment with atomic hydrogen quite a bit myself. The cost of a Nickel hydride is pretty expensive for a tank to my knowledge.
      I believe there is new advances in carbon tech like a NiC hydride hybrid, that have brought cost down a bit.... Still pretty expensive to my knowledge, and it still cant store as much as a pressurized vessel.
      Proteus is underutilized IMHO, glad to see people still openly working with it.

    I see a lot of people attempting to make hho cells to operate internal combustion engines, they usually dont make enough hho to power the vehicle. By collecting hydrogen and compressing it, it can be carried onboard to power vehicles. Right?

    Good stuff. Any ICE can be converted to use hydrogen The holy grail would be to use solar and store it in tanks at relatively low pressure , say 50 psi . maybe more ? No carbon exhaust or build up. Just clean running engines from your own gas station . Tune ups would be a thing of the past almost . Someone will find a way to make it illegal. But I hope not

    storing and compressing the H2 is intriguing. i was big into research a few years ago with wet and dry cell generators and even made my own dry cell. the output was moderate but i kept fearing a "Hindenburg" situation if i added it to my vehicle. my thought was if I could store it, opposed to on demand use, you could have the generation station solar powered. it would work all day long every day. its 300+ sun days where i am. 13+ hour summer days. Thoughts??

    Could you explain to us why (to you) energy has so much value in form of H2 that you are happy to input more energy than what you output? A quick calculation based on the values you shared in the video is that in order for you to obtain 1kg of H2, you invest 103KW of electricity to get a return of 33.6KW in H2 (as 1kg of H2 has a BTU of 33.6KW) Is it the low cost of investment in infrastructure and maintenance? Low cost of storage materials? Endless renewables available to you such as sun, water wind? Maybe your specific application for the H2? Thank you for sharing.

    • @jjbailey01
      @jjbailey01 5 років тому +2

      I'm going call out an error in the video. That is a 100 pound propane tank, not 100 gallons. 100 pounds of propane is 23.6 gallons, so that is the volume of the tank. This volume will be constant regardless of what is contained in it. Converted to metric, this is 89.336 liters. This tank will hold 89.336 liters of anything that you can put in it. As pressure increases you will only increase the mass contained, not volume.

    Fuel cell is unnecessary and has been don't to confuse the truth, I am telling you this because over forty years ago I was shown a Holden Kingswood run on tap water with no fuel cell at all, he filled his fuel tank with strait tap water and showed it was going into the carburettor. He only gave us a quick description on how he did it as he was trying to sell it to Holden but got told they were not interested and got the same from Ford as well and after that he was visited by two men that told him to keep his mouth shut, but when he showed it to us there was a twenty seven year old that had seen it as well and built his own two years later and the man who showed it to us was killed, But what he told us was all he did was increase the jets in his carburettor to twice there size to allow enough water in and built this coil he had mounted on the side of the motor that was about 4x4 inches in size to burn the water and that was it no fuel cell at all, when water is placed under a vacuum and hit with x-ray frequency it releases hydrogen and is what I think is going on with this system and is as safe as. I know this is real I have seen it done. It is just being done the wrong way.
