I went up there 5 years ago, camped overnite by the bunkhouse bldg. At midnight we sat at the table/breakfast nook and smoked one, where I'm sure MANY were smoked. Gohler Wash aint too bad, pretty smooth most of the way and there are a few mining bldgs remaining along the way up to the ranch. Great vid- thank you
I think the land is beautiful. Great place for a campsite. Very wild site. I also think it’s hard to forget the memory of what happened at a location, almost as if the land itself gets scarred when something scary or violent happens there. Maybe it’s just us humans manifesting that stuff? Maybe nature doesn’t give a shit? For me, that’s the big question.
Nice new tires and lift kit! And with your new transmission, may your Dessert Trippin' keep-on continuing to educate and entertain us. This may be the most daring adventure yet! Be save and best of luck on completing this series and with all your future videos!
Thanks Bruthah Dan! I actually was able to get some more key footage last week. Just a bit more and then some insane hours in the edit bay, and who knows? I may actually get the next two done at some point! (With enough spare footage for an “outtakes,” “bloopers” or “making of” video?) We’ll see. Gotta get PART II finished first!
I tried to learn as much as I could before I went. But there’s always more stuff to dig up and no substitute for actually walking throughout the site! Thanks for watching.
3:13 as a survival kit builder and SAR/wilderness survival enthusiast (driven over here by Sean Munger’s recent Manson doc ) When watching you grab your camera gear bags I thought “jeez I hope he packed a serious ‘get-outa-jail bag’ before this excursion. Like -a car kit half the size of the hatchback.” Bonus points for getting service & upgrades on the Element.👍🏼
Compared to a true wilderness survivalist’s kit, I probably wouldn’t say I was “seriously” prepped. But I did take some important, albeit half-assed precautions. I’ve since added a couple things but for the most part I’m 65% a crisis waiting to happen. That being said, I’ve learned to always have water, some food, good spare tire, some protection if heading way out into the hinterlands, sunscreen, hat, several layers of clothing and as much knowledge of the area as possible. I know I could and should do more.
It truly is beautiful. And even though it rarely rains, it does get huge volumes of rain on a few brief occasions! (Which makes flash flooding a very real danger. And also helps create all those amazing rock formations!)
Interesting stuff. Nice tires! Loved the action footage on the road up. Found it funny when you described the comfy little library that used to be in the ranch house...I guess crazed killers need a place to unwind, too.
Great info! Surprised you made it up in that rig. Those rocks are infamous for shredding tires. I got to see it a month before the fire. Such a shame it was destroyed. It's a lovely place aside from the Manson stigma.
Yeah. In hindsight it was pretty stupid of me to drive up there the first time, with street tires and stock suspension! Ironically, on my second visit, I blew out a brand new all-terrain tire on the dirt road that takes you to Goler Wash! That was fun! LOL
Thank you. You’re not the first person to say that. I’m starting to reconsider some of my choices as my channel evolves. Sincerely appreciate the input. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
"criminal mastermind ??" Charlie? noooo. he was just a weird, lil evil-minded, acid-fried dude who was angry at those who had the success he felt he deserved..
It’s possible he was all those things you say he was, AND he was a criminally-minded person who was remarkably adept at manipulating people. In fact, he almost got away with the murders if not for an unprecedented legal strategy shift by the Los Angeles district attorney. It’s a complex story, and I agree he had a lot of anger in him to do the things he did. Some people have said the whole story might have turned out differently if his musical career actually took off.
I know. I hate to give him any kind of compliment either. He really messed up a lot of people in horrible horrible ways, both directly and indirectly. His life was shit from the beginning and he took it out on the rest of the world. Sad thing was, it was all so unnecessary. @@Gorilla.Guitar

Beautiful place I live in Scotland where its raining most days

Where else would they be able to store their Tuscan cookbooks and Danielle Steele romance novels?
Such a weird vibe, I bet....I've always wanted to check that place out...
Weird is a perfect descriptor. There’s a totally eerie energy that seems to hang over the whole area.

@@JoeBuiDesertTrippin Maxxis Razr E rated 10 ply tires are super. I have done scores of trips without even getting a flat.
Wow dude! Those are some serious tires! On my wish list now.

Can't wait to ride shotgun in the new offroading vehicle!
I don’t know what it is about being a little higher up, but it’s even more fun riding around in the city.
Ummm, I would have taken those bones to be ID'd as to human or animal- look pretty freakin human to me!! Ugh
I know, right? I bet if I went back they’d still be there, or maybe some new ones have washed up after the past rains?
Ridiculous

That bone is from either a cougar or coyote
Thank you. Certainly glad it wasn’t human!
The 2nd bone is from a goat
Same with this bone. Thanks for ID’ing it. There were more bones there that day than usual.
