  • This is a pretty short (by my standards) tutorial video on how to build a basic combi using various programs as well as the general theory behind how you would approach making a combi.
    This isn't specific to the Kronos, but I use the Kronos to show how to build the combi as well as level it compared to other sounds or combis if you were to use them in succession against one another.

    Dave, you have fixed this issue! INT-B is back. Oh the simplicity of your answer that manuals and multiple youtube videos couldn't solve. To other less than tech savvy folk, I add that the command "open" could be translated "go deeper into" a selected command. Thanks so much!

      No problem at all! I'm glad you got things working again - The manual is excellent except it assumes you know a LOT already which doesn't help most people unfortunately.
      Never hesitate to reach out if you get stuck, I'll see what I can do to help :)

    I really like the way you maped how things work and then how you applied the process of creating,a Combe to the map. The Kronos is complex, but your videos help me understand a lot of its complexity.

    Some good information here. As far assigning Programs to Timbres goes- the (Combi) Page Menu Command "Copy From Program" simplifies the process, including assigning IFX & MFX. It does require that you redefine the Keyboard Zones for that Timbre as it resets to the default.

    Thank you for putting this tutorial out here. The IFX routing is still very mysterious to me. It would be a huge help if you would record a video focusing specifically on the effects parameters and how they're manipulated, and if it's not too much to ask, please fill the video screen with the Kronos' screen. My 66-year-old eyes really struggled with the tiny Kronos screen as displayed. Thank you again!

    I think I am still missing something re set lists. 1. I wrote a program within Program called Berlin Dark Reverb with effects. 2. I transferred it to Set List. 3. The effect transferred all remaining set list empty slots to "Berlin Dark Reverb" as the default. 4.Berlin Dark Reverb also transferred into Sequence as the default instrument. 5. The regular Berlin Grand is completely gone and has been replaced by, of course "Berlin Dark Reverb". What did I do??

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  4 роки тому

      Setlists are just shortcuts, like how your PC or Mac can have shortcuts on the desktop.
      To me, it sounds like you overwrote Int-A 000 which is the default Berlin Grand. All the stuff you mentioned (sequences, empty set lists, unassigned combis) point to Int-A 000 by default so when you overwrote it, everything else updates to reflect that.
      What you should do is make your changes to the Berlin piano but save it somewhere else (U-G bank for example) so you don't run into this issue.

    At the 11:00 mark you begin assigning the different channels to MIDI channel one. The video is quite dark and out of focus here. Which button(s) are you pressing to assign the MIDI channel, and what indicates that you have assigned a combi channel to MIDI channel one? Thank you.

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  7 років тому

      Thanks Gordon. I'm pressing the "Timbre/Parameter" Tab, and then "Midi". On this midi page, you can choose which midi channel the tracks are being triggered by - In this case it should say "01G" for Channel 1 - General. (This is the midi channel the Kronos' keyboard is talking to more or less)

    Hi Dave. I thought I was putting a Combi into Set List and now all the preset factory sounds in INT-B are gone and replaced by a whole page of Init Combi. What did I do???

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  4 роки тому

      It sounds like at some point you would have had to initialize a combination but it asks if you want to do that for the whole bank.
      If you go to Disk mode, find the Factory folder and load the "Preload.PCG" file, as long as you didn't edit any factory sounds, that should fix it.
      Make sure when you go to the Preload.PCG that you press "open" and NOT load. Once you are looking inside of the file, look for combis and with that highlighted, then you can select "load", otherwise you'll overwrite any setlist items you've made.

    Don't know if anyone can answer this...when I want to add a program to a pre set combi...in other words to an unassigned track, it appears to let me do it, but I cannot hear the instrument. Have not been able to get an answer to this yet.

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  7 років тому +1

      The problem is that each new track you add needs to be 'triggered' from somewhere. In most cases, it's looking for MIDI input.
      Think of the Kronos as two main parts: 1 part MIDI controller, and 1 part sound engine.
      The MIDI controller (The keyboard) needs to tell the sound engine to play the sound.
      When you assign a new track to a combi, try this:
      Go to the Timbre Parameter tab at the bottom, under the "MIDI" Sub-tab.
      You should see the different numbered tracks. You'll notice that some tracks say "01G or Gch" which is the channel that the MIDI keyboard is currently assigned to by default.
      If you assign a new sound to a track and you want it to play, tell it to be triggered from channel 01 (or 01G or Gch)
      That should tell the MIDI part of the Kronos to trigger the sound from Channel 01 which is what the physical keyboard part is doing.
      Things like KARMA or external MIDI keyboards can trigger sounds on different channels which is why those channels all exist like that in the first place.
      Give that a try!

      Sandra Kennedy- They are called "Timbres". The term "Track" is reserved for sequencing mode. You have to make sure you have that Timber assigned to the global midi Channel, it has to be turned on, and the volume slider needs to be up. also if you are using an expression pedal make sure that it is all the way down.

    I have a question. Can I have a combo where certain keys are also samples?
    I’m going to try this technique but I’m still getting used to a lot of what the Kronos has to offer.

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  3 роки тому

      Absolutely! The idea is that you'd have a program with the sample you want. Then you bring it into the Combi and set the key range and pitch to whatever you want for triggering the sample. If you need effects, route them too but that's the idea!

    • @ShanesQueenSite
      @ShanesQueenSite 3 роки тому +1

      @@AudoraAudio thanks Dave. So the possibility is that when I imported the sample and assigned my key I never saved that as a program. And that’s why I had to keep reloading the samples.

    • @AudoraAudio
      @AudoraAudio  3 роки тому

      @@ShanesQueenSite Not quite. PCG files save programs, combis, global settings, etc. But samples are stored in a different part of memory entirely. You'd need to save the sample data once it's loaded as a KSC file, and have it autoload when you boot the Kronos up. (Global, KSC autoload) and autoload the _Userbank.KSC file to load the sample as read only. It keeps the file on the hard drive, but streams it when you play instead of loading the sample into RAM which is what happens when you load the file.KSC file.

    Hi Dave, I have a SAVE issue. I wrote a song in sequence (Song 000),did 3 tracks there and saved that song. The NEXT DAY I copied from combi into 3 new songs (songs 001, 002 and 003) and also added tracks 4 and 5 to the original song (000). When I tried to save the 3 new songs (001, 002 and 003) and the original song with additional tracks, the only thing that saved was the original 3 tracks on (000) from the day before. What did I do wrong?
