Prof is about as hood as it gets for Minneapolis...grew up on the Southside in the Powderhorn area at a time when the city was known as Murderapolis...he used to witness drive-by's getting off the school bus as a kid, his dad was bipolar and burned his house down, and he started rapping as a way of being funny so he didn't wind up having to get involved with having to "prove" himself to everyone in the neighborhood...
