Thank you for another great video! You are just amazing! I’ve owned the DxO One since early 2017, and I just love the little thing! Don’t want to seem like a wise guy, but I have two small, but useful, tips for you: 1. In standalone mode there are, apart from the viewfinder, actually three different screens that you swipe between - Full Auto, Your latest (if the camera was in PASM mode when you disconnected it from the iPhone otherwise you only get two full auto screens) dialed in PASM mode with the latest settings from the iPhone app (for instance A, f/1.8, AWB, Auto ISO, RAW) and lastly Movie mode! 2. You can transfer RAW-files to your iPhone. Choose the image you want to download in the DxO app with the iPhone horizontally (doesn’t work vertically) and swipe down on the image - the meta data view appears and in the lower right hand corner RAW transfer is visible! Tap and you transfer the DNG to your phone! Keep up your excellent work! Regards Rikard
I really did have fun! I mean practical no but fun yes :P And I am LOVING the Pentax. So jazzed to collect my thoughts on it in a couple weeks. Thank you again for loaning her out!
I feel like you nailed the format on this video. Perfect balance between example shots, Before/Afters, and the quick editing demonstration. I am unreasonably excited for a upcoming review of the Epson R-D1x, mostly because my R-D1 is my most treasured camera (^_^)
the DXO One is the camera I have in my uniform every day. When I need something better then my iPhone XR camera I take out the DXO One. It has never let me down and when I'm on a citytrip and don't want to carry bulky gear around this is the perfect solution. I rarely use SuperRAW but when I used it the shots that came out were perfectly usable.
Wanted to highlight that I appear to have been wrong about the ability to edit raw files from you phone or iPad. From the ‘reference manual on line’ : Since iOS 10 arrived in September 2016, the iPhone and iPad have been able to process RAW files, in particular thanks to a certain number of compatible applications like Adobe® Lightroom Mobile® and Google® Snapseed®. If you have a compatible device and application, you’ll be able to directly process the RAW files from your DxO ONE, without needing a computer, particularly if you’re traveling or out walking. reference-dxoone.dxo.com/en/6-2-file-format-and-managing-raw-files/
been on this channel for a short while now, I got hooked by a lot of the CCD stuff, and the randomness of this channel and the Olympus ZX1 review. Its nice that you are doing your own thing and enjoying it whilst not taking things so serious and helping others get creative. I nearly just nought the Zx1 but at the last minute i got the original GR Ricoh.
Oh man that original GR is such a great camera. Solid move there. I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel; I am the farthest from serious because life is too short for me not to just have fun with these toys :P
I absolutely love when you go back in time and use the older point and shoots, or cameras that came and went like this one. It makes your channel very unique and have some comfortable personality to each video. If you could do more old school point and shoots or retro (early 2000''s) type cameras, i would love you for that!
Stumbled upon this review and i'm seriously thinking of getting one! I like taking photos but i don't fully enjoy bulky cameras, i've been running around with a Samsung NV40 to get that "older photos" vibes but this is something that i can see myself using because is so compact. I like the camera on my iPhone but this is like an extra step to what i regularly use. Totally gonna hunt one down to try it
So, some observations on this camera, now that I've also had it for a few days. The app is brilliantly designed, its settings make a lot of sense. It's rare to have a camera manufacturer put out a usable iOS app. Things I love about the app and the settings it allows: - as pointed out by someone else, set the camera to the mode you want and when using in disconnected/standalone mode, it will remember the last set mode - you can set a maximum shutter speed Some things to look out for: - flaring and ghosting with bright front side light can be extreme - since the shutter is electronic only, in artificial light (LED light source), extreme banding is visible when photographing with artificial light - the camera can get quite warm, it probably overheats quickly in hot environments Bottom line though: I love it. Some of the files I get from this are really good, competing with Micro Four Thirds. I love the fixed focal length with a fast aperture.
I have two DXO One cameras and they are great little devices. Hook them up to a USB battery bank and you can run a timelapse for days, literally. Just switch on auto-ramp if you do timelapse though ;) I also picked up a Sigma SD Quattro after watching your video. Amazing camera.
Thank you for mentioning that Lenny! I totally forgot to even touch on the Timelapse capability so pinning this comment. So glad you picked up and are enjoying the SD Quattro! As you know I just love that camera 😍
I remember a thesis student doing a whole series with the minox , infrared red film and red gel over the flash . so it's invisible when it goes off. Really nice series. Got a print they gave me I think. Think I still have a minox around here some where.
It will remember the last manual mode settings for you to use when not connected to the phone. So you could set auto ISO and f1.8 as your manual settings. When not connected to the phone the display is touch sensitive and you can then swipe between AUTO, Your Pre-Set and Video modes. Amazing camera with great picture quality 🤗
OMG, yes! The best part of every movie or tv show was that classic scene where the person in a trench coat with leather gloves would sneak into an office in the middle of the night and take pictures of the secret files with that little Minox camera. Seriously, ten year old me literally assumed that would be my job when I was an adult. Lol
Ha!! So good. Not quite the same but similar: the person I wanted to be as a kid was Fletch. Chevy Chase was my hero but sadly lacking a Minox as far as I can recall :P

Great review! Fun to learn more about this weird camera. Wonder if the ‘super raw’ thing is similar to Fujifilm’s dynamic range setting. Not sure how that one works, but it does give you more dynamic range in RAW files. Can’t wait for the K5II review next.
Hello there! I found your channel through Lucy Lumen’s IG reel. This video made me rummage through my closet to find my old DXO One camera that I bought a few months after the price was slashed to about $100 at my local camera store back in 2016-17. Subscribed to your channel :)
So interesting how design trends repeat-- it looks like the DXO inspired the modern 360 cameras (like the Insta 360 Go 2) rad vid as always, but gotta tell you. Hooking that to a phone would have been a deal breaker for me lol
Very true!! I know there were a couple wild little action cams at this time and the early trend of this form factor was definitely being developed around the release of this wee thing.
I enjoyed the review. I was aware of this camera when it came out and have considered purchasing it many times over the years. I think one of the reasons it failed is how DXO marketed it. They made extreme claims about its abilities and gave it a very high score on their own rating system. They should have never rated their own camera, that was a huge mistake. This was the same time when DXO ratings were everything in the camera world, I think this camera not only failed but hurt DXO's brand image and camera rating respectability greatly.
Your videos prove that any camera can take nice pictures. Hopefully they will get people back out taking pictures with their older cameras instead of waiting for the latest and greatest.
1000%. I like everyone else had a period where I couldn't sell my old gear fast enough to chase the new product cycle but so happy to have found my love for these older cameras again. They are and were always good enough.
It does transfer raw. Just turn off rotation lock on iPhone and swipe down while on the screen with pictures preview. And there will be a “Transfer Raw” button. Oh. Pardon. Read about that after writing the comment. Camera is really great. Got it used for 40$ and it’s such a bang for the buck 😃

Suprise! The eBay listing you showed in the video was the one that I purchased (won the auction). Seems like I got a good price on it. However, I have been unable to connect it via wi-fi to my iPhone 6s. But, I agree, it's still a fun little camera to play around with.
It was you!!! I watched that auction like I had a bucket of popcorn in my lap. I also know who was bidding against you :P! Have you checked that you have the latest firmware updated from the App Store?
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Yes, updated the 6s to latest. I also have another issue in that the lightning port on the phone is sloppy. When I plug the DxO in, I have to hold it just right or it looses connection. Makes it very awkward to try to shoot as both hands are busy trying to keep the connection good let alone messing with settings. I got a short extension cord and it makes much better connection but I am still one hand short of operating comfortably. When I find time, I will try it on my iPad mini 5 and see if I have better luck. - Love your channel. Since the pandemic started, I developed a bad case of GAS. I've now got a couple hundred working cameras, from DSLRs, mirrorless and point/shoot (average cost around $50 ea). Gotta get the ambition to do something like what you and @snappiness are doing.
@@tonymason971 You probable have LINT inside the iPhone conector this is very common / use a pin needle carefully to remove the lint which takes some time but you'll be surprised at how much lint can get in there that it picks from carrying in pockets that gets compressed when you plug it to charge it. (a hint is if you have trouble charging, you conect it and it disconnects...its the lint not allowing the conector to stay in place)
Hi, I just picked up a DXO one. I'm having trouble updating the firmware on the app. I was looking up if there's a way to update manually and eventually ended up on this video. Do you still have a copy of the firmware that DXO support provided you? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Wohoo! What an exciting camera!Looking for something to compliment Leica M8. This or Lumix LX 3 might be it, especially for getting close or shooting at weird angles. Absolutely admire your channel ✨
I’ve always thought this was such a cool and quirky camera but wasn’t sure I’d like it. I probably would have got one before had I known that 1) it has the RX100 III sensor and 2) you can shoot it untethered with that hilariously cool bitmap screen. One of several French cameras I would love to own :)
I was so excited for this til you said it overheated in “insane” 105F. *cries in southern Arizona* Great review! I had no idea this camera existed. I love 1” sensors!
That transfers images through nfc or just the port? the app has a android version too? That's a summer will android recognize the files from the card? Thanks rx100 mark 1 was great and very different from the later versions. All Japanese. Mine is on its last legs with the dial. Maybe I can fix it
I do not make any kind of video, but if I should choose a small action video Camera, I thing I would get the Sony RX0 II which a a very solid small Camera that can take some beating and fall to the ground. The Sony have a 24mm equivalent Lens, the DXO have a 32mm equivalent Lens and I thing the Sony Lens will be much more versatile for video. The Sony also have 4K ! $700 ($640 at amazon) new for the Sony are okay.
OK, now that you've recently posted reviews of two dinky cameras, which one would you carry in your purse, if you could only choose one? The DXO One or the Fuji F31fd ?
Oh boy. Well neither would be my only camera so I hate to sound like I'm bailing on the question but if I for example had my Leica M8, I'd probably grab the DXO One. If I had my Olympus EM5iii, then I'd grab the F31fd. But I pretty much always carry two cameras with me and actually, the F31fd paired with the DXO One would actually be a brilliant combo! One more vintage vibe and more flexibly modern.
Oh dear! I think it may just require a software update? I am an iOS user but I believe if you go to the android equivalent App Store on you should be able to update the software there and then it should work. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dxo.one&hl=en_US&gl=US
I have a Xiaomi and I found that the Miui is the problem. On my old Phone, my DxOne works very well! If anyone got Xiaomi and know how to fix this problem, I would be very grateful 🙏
I think it's really interesting for street. What phone do you have? It might still be compatible. If you're okay with auto only and then downloading and making adjustments in post, I'd still find it worth exploring if you can get a deal.
Hi Ali! Cool channel. You might be interested in the Nikon Coolpix P7000 which was introduced in 2010. Its about as good as it gets. It has a lovely little CCD sensor and you can find them for a steal nowadays.
Is there anyone that owns one that can answer something for me? is it possible to use it without a phone at all? does it have to be initially paired to set up? I want to grab a cheap used one, but they're all the iphone version and I have android.
You can definitely use without an iPhone. It will just need to be in all automatic mode. Then you take out the micro SD card and load onto your computer like any other memory card.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras I have one more question, don't know if it's an easy answer but no googling seems to know, can it be paired wirelessly with an android phone? there's a DxO app and they made the usbc version but I wonder if it's software locked to the system it's on somehow.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras you've been so helpful so thank you! I just got one for so cheap and Im messing with it in standalone and really enjoying the new perspective and process.

I've heard people really like that camera for video. Can't say I've tried it though.
OMG that photo at 12:12
I was really surprised at how well this little thing held up! And the lava fields of Central Oregon are 😍
omg i need this now

I bought one of them in these days but it didn't connect to my androida phone :( can you help me?
These are expensive now. The cheapest I could find in Europe is 250 euro.
They still seem to be asking £150 to £300 in the UK for these!
They definitely have been going up.
This might be interesting for street photography, but I don't have an iphone. Is this still worth it?
I think it's really interesting for street. What phone do you have? It might still be compatible. If you're okay with auto only and then downloading and making adjustments in post, I'd still find it worth exploring if you can get a deal.
Hi Ali! Cool channel. You might be interested in the Nikon Coolpix P7000 which was introduced in 2010. Its about as good as it gets. It has a lovely little CCD sensor and you can find them for a steal nowadays.
Thank you for the hot tip!
In January 2023, 5 months after publication, they are all selling for $100 - $200 on eBay. LOL
April 2024 $200-350 on ebay
The price didn't age well :D
For some reason, now in 2024 the cheapest unit on eBay is almost $200 + shipping. (And the next is over $300..)
@@Wabajak13 I unfortunately don’t know the answer to that but let me ask in the OMTC discord group to see if anyone else might
@@OneMonthTwoCameras you've been so helpful so thank you! I just got one for so cheap and Im messing with it in standalone and really enjoying the new perspective and process.
