I agree with other people just imagine all the old bikes with a blown motor that can be resurrected with a $100.00 HF predator motor! I just purchased one of those belt drive CV units for around $50.00 on amazon! For $200.00 and a day of fabrication and welding your out riding! Awsome video

I do recommend getting a billet rod, billet flywheel, valve retainers, valves that fit the new retainers, and 26lbs springs. most of that stuff you can get from ARC racing.
I have been out of the small trail bike business for 45years.and since I regretfully sold my 69 Penton. It was one of the early Pentons........I was hankering to get a new toy and bought an old Kaw 100KE but it has a trashed bottem end. I am getting ready to do a similar swap after seeing your first video. I am hopeing that I will not need to cut the frame to get the motor and cvt in. I am also worried about the foot peg issue. The swap actually looks to be a neat swap other than the bulky CVT. Too bad just a simple clutch is not a good option to eliminate much of the bulk. This whole Idea of these preditor swaps hopefully will revive many of the old trail bikes that have been abused and not maintained. Great videos....Keep up the good work.
It's great to see someone actually making a bike work well with these small 4 stroke engines. We've built a number of Karts and mini bikes using clones and have not yet used a Predator engine but they do seem to be a step up. With off the shelf parts, they are an easy engine to modify as are the clones from the vast amount of companies who put their name on them. I think I will get a 212 predator and give it a try in a moped, scooter type bike we bought online that does not seem to have any history or background to find anything about it anywhere. It is an odd shape with unique features. We were told it was made in China in the 1980s or 90s but that's all we know.

It is nice to here some calm, smooth music while watching you work. Much better than cranking the heavy metal (which has its time and place.) On the governor removal: do you need to plug the hole on the flywheel side and if so, how? Also, what about an aluminum flywheel, I hear that is safer with the extra RPM generated. Thanks, nice video. My guess on new top speed, 55 mph.

I have had the flywheel blow appart and about take my head off! If you go bigger cam and higher compression MUST do a billet flywheel! I still have the whole in my shop ceiling from the flywheel. I thought it might have been a defective part and put a new one on but nope slung it apart as well.
You could put these predictor engines in anything and it will always work every time but you must bring your imagination is up most definitely very important here!..
This thing about re powering a motorcycle with a predator or a briggs or tecumseh is something I always did for the last 40 years, but the briggs and the tecumseh were very expensive to buy. People always threw away broken equipment with perfectly good engines. A ring job was just a 2 hour thing, for me. Those were the only options my older generation had. This is a way to avoid expensive repairs at a honda, suzuki, kawasaki or yamaha dealer. I have always taken the governor off the engines with no trouble, just don't hold the throttle wide open too long. Torque converters are available and cheap today, not so in my days.
hey nice work i have a bigger trail bike that i put a 8 horse Briggs on it like yours i runs good i use it for fishing keep up the good work i enjoy this kind of stuff and look to see more from you thanks that was good
Thanks for checking out my videos Dave! I found the replacement belt has lasted a lot longer then the original one that came with the CVT, I’m still running the replacement belt, I do plan to install a lager rear sprocket, this will help the belt last longer because it will fully engage at a slower speed, it’s the slipping on and off throttle at slow speeds that I think takes its toll on them. Take care 🙂
Awesome channel Mike... No BS.... just a Family guy having fun with Family and Friends and Teaching others along the way !! Great Stuff ! LIKED/SUBSCRIBED !
I had a predator with 18lb valve springs a mod 2 cam no governor and a port job. I had it on a gokart frame and the stock flywheel came apart at about 5 or 6 thousand rpm. The shroud slowed down the shrapnel and the back of the gokart seat caught the rest. I've turned stock flywheels to 5000rpm and above and never thought it would happen to me but now I put a billet flywheel and billet rod on everything.
The stock flywheels are cast. All cast iron flywheels are known for exploding over a certain rpm because the porous metal starts to lose its shape, flex, and crack. That being said ive only ever seen internet dudes explode them ive never personally had it hapen. I suggest getting the ARC billet flywheel with 32* timing built in. Run it on 93 octane it should like any cam you throw at it. I am in Indiana so our tuning greatly differs. Nice channel by the way, you have a subscriber. By the way if you lap the billet flywheel to the crank your using you can use it for years on any 212cc so not a bad investment.

Look into a TIllotson 212 for projects like these, they already have a bunch of performance and high RPM upgrades for not a lot more than a predator 212. theyre the same design engine though, so parts are compatible

mike on your last video i mentioned trying this project myself ...i had no luck finding anything around here not running at a reasonable price...everything i saw was 500 plus not running most looked decent but the asking prices were higher than i was willing to pay... oh well was neat idea
try looking for a frame in an auto junk yard. they won't sell you one with a title usually, but they might have a roller frame they would sell you for off road. it's worth a shot.
Keep looking. Usually have tons in my area but for some reason there are no listings currently. However, I am going to keep looking and suspect as winter approaches there will be a few listed from people wrecking the engine over summer.
Yes the flywheel WILL EXPLODE if you rev too high. If you don’t want to spend lots on a better flywheel go power sports sells pvl flywheels. Also consider just cutting off every other fin on your stock flywheel for less drag, it worked fine for me. Arc billet rod and mod2 cam will make this thing fly!!
@@Mikefestiva how would you do the chain situation, it has a 52 chain, do you know where I can get a 42 chain sprocket for it? Or would you but a sprocket and drill the correct holes in it
I have another bike project coming up soon where I need to make a 520 chain fit the CVT also, I’m probably going to buy a small 12 or 13 tooth 520 front sprocket and cut out the center on my lathe and weld a shaft lock hub onto the sprocket to make it fit? Or you could probably downsize the back sprocket to 420 and re drill the mounting holes to fit the PE 175 hub? Just a few ideas?
Yea i got an old Suzuki ts 125 frame , with title. Wonder if i can fit my 18hp vanny or 11hp diesel. I might have an actual 6.5hp honda at work though.
I've seen pictures of flywheels exploding. When we were kids we used to bypass the governor with a piece of wire on go carts. Never had a flywheel explode but my friends connecting rod blew. He was going 60 down hill with a 2.5hp Briggs. I would guess the revs were way up there to hit 60.
Man he must have had that little Briggs engine really up in the revs! I have a stage 2 kit that I plan on installing soon, it’s a billet connecting rod, billet flywheel, cam and a Xr 200 carb. 👍
And there are five horse Briggs & Stratton engine and Junior Dragsters at the US Nationals Indianapolis Indiana that turned a hundred miles an hour in the quarter mile but they have a few modifications so they won't reach out and kill you and that has to do with starting with a Billet block start with then a fully counterweight Billet crankshaft custom roller bearing with a forged rod and forged piston valves titanium valve spring titanium pushrods titanium everything else cost of somewhere between 3500 and $5,000 and you got five horse Briggs that makes about 40 horsepower and a hundred miles an hour in a junior dragster but I'll bet for a whole lot cheap and build a all Circle flywheel with a crank like a Harley-Davidson Crank that would fit inside your motor and cut or buy a Billet rod with a more modern motorcycle piston and the tools to do it all for l e s s that of Junior dragster engine
New Top Speed 65-70 MPH. I used to get 60MPH on my old 1975 CB125 and that motor was 125CC's smaller and was bone stock. I love they way you got that predator motor hopped up. You should see if you could sell these to Harbor Freight to use as a promotion of their Predator Motors.
Thanks Paul for checking out my video! I’m a big fan of Old Honda CB bikes. I had a CB 200 twin that I modified a lot, I gave it to my nephew, I kept my mod CB 350 four! It’s a great little bike and sounds wonderful at 10,000 RPMs. Take care
looks good so far, though like someone said below replace the old flywheel. Like these builds honestly if i had to guess the top speed i think youd see 55mph
64mph. Get a double groove belt to teeth on both sides might help a bit , i used to burn them up alot on my 1999 scrambler 400 till I got one of those belts,
Had a predator on my drift trike . the flywheel does self destruct , I've had it happen the magnet flies out of the flywheel and ripped the coil completely off the engine , the difference between the stock flywheel and the billet is the magnet actually stays in the billet and they spin up faster ,light weight, rated for 10,000 rpm.
Easy diy for changing valve springs, bust all the porcelain off an old spark plug and clean the core out. Weld a male airchuck fitting to it. Put the piston at t.d.c. screw in the custom fitting and hook up the air hose. That's it!
Still have a scar on my leg from when a 212 flywheel blew up on my mini bike it’s been 3 years since then they may have fixed the design flaw but I wouldn’t take any chances it was painful
you should get a billet flywheel for sure. i used to race these engines in box stock classes with my kart. so many stock flywheels were flying apart that it became the only/required mod you had to do in order to pass safety inspection. dont cheap out...its not worth letting that grenade go off next to you or someone else.
Double check the alignment of the converter. Had problems with mine destroying belts for a good while but ever sense we shimmed it perfectly aligned no more problems. And mine is up to about 15 hp now.
For your cam since you have a lathe you can weld your cam or build up the metal and mill it to have much higher lift look it up check it out! I did it on my pred 212 2yrs ago and still running hard!
im about to replace a 66cc Chinese motor with a 212 predator, are there any problems i might encounter? im gonna order the mounting plate and hub mounted sprocket either 44t or 36t idk
I build these 212's and my personal bike has a coil for charging so I can run lights ECT. So I can't use the billet flywheel. No governor and I've had it ripping with the stock flywheel for years. I do remove the magnets and epoxy them on so they don't get loose. That's what kills the flywheels
They're referring to the actual metal flywheel. The metal fatigues, develops micro fractures, and eventually let's loose. And when it does, your engine is toast. I did a 212 on a 1980 rs175, same way you did. But my engine is a stage 2 with billet rod and flywheel. Well worth the money!
56mph new top speed. Look into a Tillitson 212. You’re starting to spend money on an engine that’s behind the curve. Better casting, internals AND tolerances that start at 10hp.
Matt Fields Matt Fields What I was thinking was you could put two washers on the CVC transmission mount to sprockets with to keyways and put a chain instead of a belt u got this and 65
Right on! Thanks for commenting and checking out my video! I have used this technique quite a few times on motors, I even used it on a Mazda car I had, to change the valve seals without pulling the head. Take care
I'd reccomend the stage 4 kit from GoPowerSports.com, but if you're short on change get the billet rod. Predator engines have a little scooper on the stock rods that splash oil around, and they have a tendency to break off and go through the block at high RPMs.
Dang great content man. Saw part 1 and 2 so far. My guess is 57mph after removing the governer. And man cant wait to see the reat of your videos, love the channel
Yeah but he said to comment if it's happened to you. I in fact build these "junk" engines and I've been using the factory flywheel on my own personal one for about 7 years without it "exploding" lol all you have to do is make sure the magnets are re epoxied to the flywheel. The glue they use isn't the best and let's the magnets go that kills the flywheel. So speaking from years of experience their not junk. You just have to know exactly what your doing 😉
@@rayditzenberger9517 not a problem man, that's why I do that I do. I actually just had the chance to work on and upgrade a Tillitson 212 hemi. It's in a little Doodlebug frame with a 30 series comet torque converter and man it's the loudest torque monster I've ever worked on lol.
I'm thinking if you had a variable gear that changes the ratio it would be a real big top speed but that's just my thinking direction. Great Job again!

At 5:01 soak your new heavy duty belt in 303. Check the videos on youtube. 303 is amazing stuff. I bought a gallon and use it on all rubber and plastic, Rubber is what it is made for. spray it on new tires inside and out. spray them until they drip, let dry and install. when you wash the car spray the tires paying close attention to the tread, when a 100,00 miles is reached they will look like you bought them last week, NO VISIBLE WEAR AT ALL, all the side tits will still be on the tires. 200,000 miles they will look a little worn maybe 20%. Try it and you will be very happy you did, make old rubber look new again as well as act new, but new rubber is where it really shines. And no I dont work for the people who make 303
@@serious_laugherc1252 Yes I do I bought all new bushings and motor mounts for my old ford truck and treated all of them with 303. Every couple of months when I am lubing the truck I spray all the rubber and interior as well
@@ConstitutionSanta Yeah that 303 is no joke that shit really works wonders right off the batt I love that stuff it makes anything that's rubber last longer now if only they made some for sexual condoms to last longer without ripping too 😉lol
Those 212cc Predators are awesome for the money. True, you can buy the Chinese 125cc 4 speed Honda Cub clone engines for around $300, but for less than $200 you can buy a brand new 212 Predator and a torque converter. That's tough to beat.
These Harbor freight 212 predators are Pretty impressive I have the same Engine on My Little Baja Minibike I have the stage 1 but I didn't Remove the Governor yet I think it would over rev at about 35mph right now and So I'll wait till I have a CVT for that, it's got alot of Power! I'm wanting to go the size #40 chain and CVT route because this #35 chain and Centrifugal clutch Is stuck in a lower than Preferable gear and stretches the chain everytime I do a launch haha I like these Builds I saw a Guy put one of these 212's in a Old I believe Toyata pickup and would actually drive around But I think the 420cc is probably better for that.
@UnEqual Reality The one on the carb? Most engines that are designed for generators or pumps etc have a Governing screw near the carb so that it doesn't over rev but I didn't see one on this engine And it Gets Up to the rev limit so I think it's the internal rev limiter not a fuel restriction Is there another screw? I'll have to take a look again when I have it out of storage
You'd be better off staying with the 35 chain because there are more sprocket options. If you get a quality 35 chain it could easily handle 212 power. Others have done it. If you really want a bigger chain go with a 420. They work better with the CVT than the 40. The fat 40 chain will increase the possibility of chain strikes to the driven pulley and make alignment less forgiving.
@@Deucealive75 That Makes sense. The size #35 I have uaed stretches pretty bad Though! I think with a CVT the #35 would do better because It will shorten the axis from the Crankshaft output and the Rear sprocket and I think that the chain being streatched out that far end to end And having that Center leverage on it might play a decent part in the chain stretching so much. But I'm not sure, it just seems like it would.
If you are burning up the belt it's because you're asking too much and you are over geared. If you put a larger rear sprocket on the whole bike's going to behave better and never burn up a belt.
i have a XR100R and they are defiantly great beginner bikes. i now ride a crf 250f and it is so fun and has made me much better at riding. but its all thanks to my xr

I have had the flywheel blow appart and about take my head off! If you go bigger cam and higher compression MUST do a billet flywheel! I still have the whole in my shop ceiling from the flywheel. I thought it might have been a defective part and put a new one on but nope slung it apart as well.
Thanks for the info! I have a full stage 2 kit with billet flywheel, I definitely don’t want that thing coming apart and going into my leg 🦵
52 is my guess. I want to build me one like that. That's really awesome! Great job!
Torque converters are available and cheap today, not so in my days.
hey nice work i have a bigger trail bike that i put a 8 horse Briggs on it like yours i runs good i use it for fishing keep up the good work i enjoy this kind of stuff and look to see more from you thanks that was good
You answered my belt question, they may not last long. Love the machine, you did a great job. God bless you brother.
Right on thanks! This little bit is quite fun to ride and fairly easy to build. Take care
Never would have thought this regular 4 stroke can actually develop some power, great conversion Sir
That thing is really cool, great job, sounds great too!
I had a predator with 18lb valve springs a mod 2 cam no governor and a port job. I had it on a gokart frame and the stock flywheel came apart at about 5 or 6 thousand rpm. The shroud slowed down the shrapnel and the back of the gokart seat caught the rest. I've turned stock flywheels to 5000rpm and above and never thought it would happen to me but now I put a billet flywheel and billet rod on everything.
thanks your inspiring me to find a use for my 212
@mike
I built a scooter with the predator motor and a go kart. Changing sprockets alone has changed my speeds and torques.
Joseph Goble have you been to Indy 500?
@@ryan14r95 no I have not! I need to being a Hoosier. Ive been to a couple nascar races and I try to go to the US Nationals of drag racing every year. Top fuel cars are an experience.

The jury is still out 😜
Look into a TIllotson 212 for projects like these, they already have a bunch of performance and high RPM upgrades for not a lot more than a predator 212. theyre the same design engine though, so parts are compatible
This is such an interesting build. I've got a few rolling chassis this would work on. XR200R, KX80. Can't wait for the next video! Have a good ride on the real bike! Keep up the Predator XR project. Oh yeah, top speed 56. Cheers!

mike on your last video i mentioned trying this project myself ...i had no luck finding anything around here not running at a reasonable price...everything i saw was 500 plus not running most looked decent but the asking prices were higher than i was willing to pay... oh well was neat idea
try looking for a frame in an auto junk yard. they won't sell you one with a title usually, but they might have a roller frame they would sell you for off road. it's worth a shot.
Keep looking. Usually have tons in my area but for some reason there are no listings currently. However, I am going to keep looking and suspect as winter approaches there will be a few listed from people wrecking the engine over summer.
I fire sold a non running xr80 for 100 a couple of months ago
That has got to be a blast to ride on the trails. The thing rips. I really dig it. Now if I only had an XR100.
XR100’s and the newer CRF100’s are great bikes, hopefully you’ll get one
Yes the flywheel WILL EXPLODE if you rev too high. If you don’t want to spend lots on a better flywheel go power sports sells pvl flywheels. Also consider just cutting off every other fin on your stock flywheel for less drag, it worked fine for me. Arc billet rod and mod2 cam will make this thing fly!!
Thanks for your comment 🙂 I have a stage 2 kit with a billet flywheel I need to install soon, thanks for your suggestion. Take care
Great project mate, I never would have thought she'd outrun an XR100 stock! I can't wait for the next installment!

I have a 79 Yamaha mx175 frame that’s rusty and old. She’s getting this treatment
Yea i got an old Suzuki ts 125 frame , with title.

Thanks for dropping links in the description. Doesn’t go unnoticed! New sub just from that and the great content
Thanks Andrew for subscribing 👍 I really appreciate it 🙂
I've seen pictures of flywheels exploding.

Jeremy, did you remove or bypass the governor on the drift trike that blew the flywheel?
@@RockieRoadz no it was stock
Jeremy Banks Yikes that's scary, so even hitting governed RPMs (3800?) your flywheel destructed? 🤪
Thanks for the comment, I will replace the flywheel.
That's awesome, can't wait to see the stage 2 kit!
you should get a billet flywheel for sure. i used to race these engines in box stock classes with my kart. so many stock flywheels were flying apart that it became the only/required mod you had to do in order to pass safety inspection. dont cheap out...its not worth letting that grenade go off next to you or someone else.
Right on! Thanks for your comment, I ordered the stage 2 kit this morning!
Double check the alignment of the converter. Had problems with mine destroying belts for a good while but ever sense we shimmed it perfectly aligned no more problems. And mine is up to about 15 hp now.

Haha! Yes it’s starting to rip! Thanks for checking out my video :)
Love this series... I think 52mph
For your cam since you have a lathe you can weld your cam or build up the metal and mill it to have much higher lift look it up check it out! I did it on my pred 212 2yrs ago and still running hard!
Dude I have a 212 on a beach cruiser it's insane
It's a stock non hemi with governor removed flywheel is fine
im about to replace a 66cc Chinese motor with a 212 predator, are there any problems i might encounter? im gonna order the mounting plate and hub mounted sprocket either 44t or 36t idk
Thanks for commenting I appreciate your comment, I have ordered a stage two kit and I will be installing it in the next video. Take care

I did this with my son with some inspiration from your videos to a old ke100 that was left for dead

56mph new top speed. Look into a Tillitson 212. You’re starting to spend money on an engine that’s behind the curve. Better casting, internals AND tolerances that start at 10hp.
Matt Fields Matt Fields What I was thinking was you could put two washers on the CVC transmission mount to sprockets with to keyways and put a chain instead of a belt u got this and 65
Tillitsons are way to expensive.
The tillitson 220 puts out 17 horse and is already a stage 4.

Got me. Hook line and sinker. Subscribed. Great trail machine man! Now off to craigslist to get some junker for a hundred or 2!!
Right on Rob, thanks for subscribing!
I definitely recommend building one 👍
I'd reccomend the stage 4 kit from GoPowerSports.com, but if you're short on change get the billet rod. Predator engines have a little scooper on the stock rods that splash oil around, and they have a tendency to break off and go through the block at high RPMs.
Dang great content man. Saw part 1 and 2 so far. My guess is 57mph after removing the governer. And man cant wait to see the reat of your videos, love the channel
Thanks for checking out my bike videos! It’s a fun little machine 👍
If the Predator engine has a factory cast flywheel then it can fly apart self-destructing at high RPM.
Have you had it happen to you?
Daniel Morris predators are junk engines made cheap, that’s why so many people have them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened to someone.
Thanks for that info. I am just starting a swap into an old KE100 and willl probably do some simple mods ..... JB weld shold do the job nicely

And no I dont work for the people who make 303
Constittution Santa it looks like you really like 303😂😂

I saw the video. It's a 1980s dodge d50
@@thatguy9890 Agree on the shorter chain.
Awesome swap. Looks like a fun little bike
If you are burning up the belt it's because you're asking too much and you are over geared. If you put a larger rear sprocket on the whole bike's going to behave better and never burn up a belt.
