    Firstly, I want to congratulate you on your videos. They are really up with the very best that I have seen on YT for leatherwork. Precise, honest, easy to follow and very well filmed. Oh thank you for the absence of aggressive music. Next the methods: I am always delighted to see hand stitching. I know how long it takes and how much quicker a machine is but the quality of a hand stitch is obvious and is so much more durable. The actual design is, as with all designs, a matter of personal taste and so should be left up to each individual to take their own view. I would say that that I am particularly keen on the Littleton cavalry buckle (or based on it) that you use. My taste is that it is very stylish. I cover the handle of mine with leather using a baseball stitch as I think it tones it down - which tends to suit the kind of products I make (for pleasure).
    It must take hundreds of hours of work to come up with the pattern and methods that you produce. In that context, the patterns are not at all expensive. I tried to calculate how long it would take me to make such a bag. No doubt there are faster stitchers, but I reckon it would take me about 50 hours to make. Work out from that how much such a hand made, hand sewn bag should sell for. £80 materials; £10 consumables; £500 labour; £50 overhead recovery. Profit? Quality costs more to buy but you never need buy quality twice
    Carry on with the excellent work

    I think I would have made the flap overlap just a little more where it attaches to the bag and for consistency like you did on the bottom a double row of stitching.

    I love this bag, but that shoulder strap is too narrow. It would need to be 2-3 times the width shown for me to be able to use it.

      Or a wider piece slotted to fit over the belt for your shoulder.

    Can you suggest where to get quality hardware that is reasonably priced? I like yours

    It’s a beautiful bag, and I appreciate the quality of your video productions. One question: why is one panel turned so the stitching is inside while the other has the stitching on the outside?

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Edward.
      For stitching like this there is a bag construction reason.
      The veg-tanned leather is thick and stiff. If picking 2-sided turned, when flipping out the bag, if not fast enough and also the leather is too hard, it will make wrinkle on the bag. (It is hard to turn for 2-sided too, one sided is a lot easier).
      But if the leather is chrome tanned which is soft will be a lot easier, then can add stiffener and lining for harden it.

    Hi, wow! This bag is beautiful!
    Where did you get that punch from @ 11:44, and what size is it?
    And the punch for the buckle?
    Thanks.

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  5 років тому +1

      For that punch I bought from local shop with no name in 3.5 mm. size.
      Punch for the buckle is 4.5 mm local tools too.
      I always bought tools from leathercrafttools.com and TaoBao.
      :)
