I put my DX7 MK1 through a cheap Behringer DR600 on the modulation setting. It's not a particularly great pedal for guitar or analogue synths but it's magical with the DX7's FM synthesis. Good video.
Thank you so much! I can immagine how beautiful can be with an external effect 🙂 for this video I decided to use a clean sound just to realize how deep a sound can be, I wish you a beautiful day!
Love this. I have an original DX7 and a DX7S. These DX7IID's are amazing!!! I think I must get one of these to add to my collection. So far I have a Yamaha EX5, DX7, and DX7s. My other keyboards are as follows: I have a Behringer Deep Mind 12, an Ensoniq SQ1+ A novation Mini Nova and my controller which is an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. I also have some analog stuff. I have a Behringer K-2, a Neutron, and a Model D. I have tons of software instruments too that I use for the really elaborate stuff for my compositions. I am a working composer for film and TV.
Say what you will about this synths sound, programming difficulty, etc., I have gone through 100s of synths over several decades and it took me 4 dx7 to realize it responds to HOW you're playing instantaneously and in a way few other synths are capable of. Something about it is just so completely spot on in terms of letting your creativity flow. This is something you can't get with even the rack tx802 since its specific to the dx7 keyboard integration.
Totally agree! I have had several synths, but when I brought home an original DX7 some years ago and started playing (E-Piano 1, of course) it really felt like a proper instrument that you connect with. It´s the keybed, the expressive capability of FM, clever programming with good use of the velocity, aftertouch & modwheel and all of that combined in a quality construction & housing that just can´t be replicated identically with a controller and an expander or VST.
Hey! I have a DX7iiD and love it. Would you know what the patches were during your video? Some of them I'd like to play around with on my own synth. Thanks!
Hi Owen, unfortunately I don't have the patches I used, I was just messing around with some sounds I downloaded and that modified by me in some parts. If you need it I can send you those patches, maybe you can find something interesting!
Also happy to see you have the old DX7II FD. I have one, plus the original. I'm not sure what kind of gear your are using by the Strymon Big Sky takes the DX7 and just about anything else (JP-8000 also in this video) to a new level. It's impressive. ua-cam.com/video/lMA1n1ACSik/v-deo.html
Pretty sure that in the hands of this guy even a Casio VLtone would sound epic. Very inspiring!!!
Hehehe! Thank you so much Mark!
Award for best camera placement
Hehe!! thank you so much!
Good Work!
Great video!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much!
I have one too! I love it. Nice sounds!!
I agree Charlie! absolutely unique. Have a beautiful day!
I have the IID version love it. The only keyboard from the 80s I could afford.
Best dx7 demo ❤️
Wow! thank you so much Mason 🙂
That Jazz Guitar at 7:46. That is so amazing sounding!

Really interesting collection of instruments! Using this machine for films and TV is the best!! congratulations Scott 🙂
Beautiful machines, I own a mk1 myself. The most under appreciated vintage synths there are.
You should get your hands on a elka-ek 44 its a Italian fm synth.
the DX7 is amazing
Youve made it sound organic man!
Thank you so much!!
