Still my favorite Madonna song. So much depth and so rich sounding. It evokes many emotions. The long version is even better. Truly an 80's Masterpiece!

Yes it definitely is. I saw the movie at close range when I was about 30yrs old this song played through the movie an on the credits. The movie is a classic it has Sean pen an Christopher walken in it. If you haven’t seen the movie 🎦 watch it you’ll love it just as much as maddona’s classic live to Tell!

I was 17 when this song was released. Man, those were great times to be alive and now at age 53 I deeply appreciate what a wonderous part of the human experience the 1980's were. Sometimes I miss those days so much it hurts.

And I was 16.. Being the music geek and chart historian to this day, I remember procuring the 12" version immediately upon release... This held me over until the True Blue Album was released. I remember exactly what was going on in my life that Spring of 1986... The sights ,, the sounds... even the smell of the flowers and trees blooming in the Spring... Amazing what music can do!

The lead synth is a TX816- a monster synth with eight voices, each consisting of the complete synth engine used in the DX-7. Every synth sound, with the exception of the orchestra hits, is produced by this synth. Patrick Leonard was a true master at programming this synth, which he also used in the soundtracks of several movies, including "At Close Range".

At Close Range was such a high impact movie. This song was the icing on the cake.
It's definitely a "forgotten movie". Nobody I know has ever seen it but me. Very powerful performances from Christopher Walken and Sean Penn. Every once in awhile you can see it run in syndication on a late night slot on cable tv channels, but it's rare.

I just watched it today. It has such a meaning for me It the last film I watched with my grandfather so many years ago now. This song always reminds me of that time. We were also nearby to the actual story he was telling me about it as we watched it. This song means a lot to me.
This song and the soundtrack of the movie is the whole cake with the icing and everything else on it.

Just watched At close range again today it’s one of my favorite movies an I’m 37yrs old I’m an old soul after seeing the movie for the 50th time which is a classic I had to listen to the song let the credits run an than play it on my speakers lol

Truth Be Told ... I didn't think Madonna had music like this inside her. After all those years of teeny-bop & bubble -gum Pop, it's truly refreshing to find something like this embedded in a mid-80's movie.
She is a very talented vocalist. It really showed in some of her later music.
You need to listen to her albums like Ray of Light, which is so far removed from her bubblegum pop sound , it's like an album Kate Bush would make. Or her politically charged folk rock American Life album from the 200s with Madonna playing the guitar

I was 4 years old when this song came out. I remember hearing it on the radio a lot back then.
One day in my late 20s, I was listening to it and the lyrics "The truth is never far behind, you kept it hidden well", and those lyrics struck me. I ended up listening to it at home, closely. It took me back to when I was that 4 year old, hearing that song. It made me remember the life of that 4 year old, who had an abusive, narcissistic sociopathic parent, and I was beaten, neglected, emotionally and mentally abused, and that parent encouraged my older siblings to do the same.
I ended up a self harming teenager with chronic depression, anxiety, and became suicidal in my 20s. I never got close to anyone nor ever asked for anybodys help. That song took on a whole new meaning to me, as if this song spoke to me when I was that child. It wasn't until I was 27 that I heard what it was telling me.

Definitely - and I love that throughout the film you can hear the instrumental of the song which adds so much power to each scene and then the finale at the end when the song finally plays during the credits, it’s like an intense emotional build up
Sean Penn deserved the oscars that he won for Mystic River and Milk. I also think he should have won an oscar for At Close Range. It's a brilliant film. This is one of Madonna's best songs. Sean is one of my favourite actors and Madonna is one of my favourite singers.

My best friend was a big Madonna fan. He once said he wished he could give her a hug. I sensed that he felt this feeling of sadness that he felt she carried with her. Then one day my best friend was gone. Suicide. Don't wish the feelings of hurt that it left behind for ANYONE. As I look back I wish I gave my friend a hug. That was almost 25 years ago folks. The pain is immeasurable. I dedicate this song ro my best friend whom was really a brother from another mother. You will NEVER BE DORGOTTEN!! RIP!!!

Hey evryone. THis is my favorite Madonna song. THere is a long, special, epic mix for the song which made me soooo happy. HOwever, it's interrupted in the middle by a commercial, plus, part of the epic mix is this guitar paying which is really not connected in my opinion... All and all, it's not too good in my opinion. If anyone wants to make a nother special epic mix, one that is maybe 9 minutes long and the special instrumental part is basically the same, speicial background music but slowed, extended, ect. ect.., that could be really amazing in my opinion!
